Not sure about the wood he's using. Most pipes are made of briar and that briar has been aged and dried for quite a while. Making a pipe out of wood that is freshly cut may not be the safest thing to do.

A very inspiring video. You remind me of myself; an artstic "country boy" who's happy with simple things. For _years_ I've been toying with the idea of making pipes. I have a solid background in both woodworking and fine handiwork. This peek into your workshop has given me even more inspiration to start pursuing my passion of creating beautiful things from "scratch", especially wood. Since our generation has fewer pipe smokers-and therefore fewer pipe makers-than the previous ones, I feel craftsmen like us will be keeping the spirit alive as well. I'm very glad you posted this and was happy to see it; I'm sure I'll watch it again! Best Regards from Cape Cod, USA!

Is this young man still making pipes? When I saw the video I wanted to support him and buy one of his pipes.

You really should be using briar for your pipes, it can handle the heat of the burning tobacco and is not a toxic wood. There are alternatives such as morta and olive wood, but they come with their own caveats. Secondly, stems should be made of acrylic or vulcanite. Wood stems will absorb saliva, become soft and deteriorate.

My guess is eventually he will if he decided to stick with his passion and talent. We need young talented pipe makers like him.

So skilled with woodworking tools yet totally inept at using a saw and an axe to cut off part of a fallen tree? Seriously?!!! Nice looking pipes nonetheless.

"I consider myself as an collector of artistic skills." Exactly what I am. I just finished my journey with leatherworks at least for now and moved to making pipes. Those are absolutely beautiful. Wish i could also have access to good power tools.

if you are going to ponse about in a forest with a saw and an axe, at least learn how to cut tree branches properly and cleanly

The whole video was beautiful, what a great unspoiled country Canada is! Using that burl from a tree is brilliant! Do you have a webshop or sell on ebay?

Very interesting film, and individual. I disagree with one thing however....”if you’re not doing something new, you’re not adding to the craft.” While I truly admire his ingenuity, one who simply continues to learn the skills and follow the creative steps of others keeps the craft alive. Each person who does so does a service, both to the craft itself and those who appreciate it.

Much respect to your young fellow paper. I’m almost jealous of your lifestyle. I think you’re well on your way and will make your mark in the pipe world what I can see. You have the heart and soul. I think once you get a good woman behind you that will be the final push to get you over into the room where you belong.
