You'll find on a real RC heli that because of the smaller moment of inertia, pushing over on one of the sides first, rather than the nose or tail, works more smoothly and you won't need as much of a punch to initiate the first movement. Your cyclic stick should always be rotating in time with the tail as ling as you want the model to be rotating through a tic or toc otherwise you will get corkscrewing, i.e. careful not to do any linear stabby movements.
