This comment is a few months late, but it took me this long to be certain about what I'm about to comment: I attached the Agency 417 to a P80 G17 build and it runs fantastically. The only "con" I personally have experienced is now the pistol only feeds on +P or +P+. It's also fond of that 124 grn FMJ NATO stuff. Other than becoming finicky about what type of ammo, there are no function issues. The advantage is small, but that small advantage is actually kinda huge, especially (for me anyway) at longer distance shots. Sights align slightly faster, follow ups are slightly snappier, and the overall feel seems slightly gentler. All these little things add up to being worth the necessity of using hotter ammo. Thanks Uncle Outlaw, thumbs up as usual :-)

Look into Volker micro comp mk2. It’s pretty incredible. I have one on my Hellcat. Cuts recoil by 25-30%. Keeps it flat with no nose dive. 0 malfunctions in 600 rounds with it on 2 range trips. I deem it good to go. You don’t have to worry about malfunctions with ammo type or tinkering with springs. Universal comp to 1/28 rh thread.

I tried the Herrington Arms two port comp on a Sig P365, it doesn’t like the Winchester Range and Training 115 grain white box FMJ ammo. Jams every other shot, failure to eject. The Federal 115 grain FMJ ran fine tho. Is there a remedy for this FTE problem? I wouldn’t want it jamming on my defense ammo. Let me know what springs you had success with?

I wish more people were this honest, Outlaw! Poly80 build, G19 RMR slide and i went straight to threaded barrel. 200-ish rounds and it jammed about 10% of the time but some extra shaving got it down to 1-2% failure rate with 115gr Blazer. Midway puts the 9mm compensator on sale for $50 so i get it, totally hyped for the performance i was expecting. You can imagine my disappointment after shooting 100 rounds and having to clear a stovepipe every other round or sometimes getting 3-4 out of a mag at best (still with 115gr). Hours of reading later i realized my mistake, almost doubled the cost of ammo and it's down to 20% failures with 125gr ammo. Needless to say, a friend was very happy to pick up the compensator off me (even after fair warning!) and i don't plan on getting another one any time soon.

+P .40 is great with a comp, better velocity than standard ammo and the comp brings the snappyness down a peg. Something I'd note is that comps will make finding a holster a bit difficult and can also cause snagging issues while drawing depending on how they're machined. It's like anything else when you start messing with your gun's gas system, fine tuning is always required. Don't make the investment if you don't have the patience.

Comps also tend to keep lights cleaner. So, if you run something like a TLR-1 HL on a G19, a comp just makes the muzzle even with the light. You still have the shorter grip of the G19 which is a concealment consideration. Also, going from a standard G19 to a comped G19, you will gain some velocity from the added length of the threaded barrel. A comped G19 has approximately a G17 length barrel and G34 slide overall length.

Here are my 2 cents: Glock is a recoil-operated pistol so a highly effective recoil reducing compensator will reduce so much recoil that whatever recoil left is not enough to overcome the factory standard weight recoil spring. So either shooting a higher pressure round or reduce the compression weight of the recoil spring will correctly handle the situation. Not the comp's fault, not the gun's fault, or the ammo's fault, it is just physis.

Yeah. The problem with compensators are that they can make your gun finicky about what kind of ammo it can reliably run. It can cause failures if you don’t have the proper recoil spring strength and don’t use ammo that it likes. So for a self defense carry gun, I don’t think I want to add something that can sacrifice reliability in a life and death situation. On a competition gun, they’re great. But in my opinion, not so much for real world self defense shooting. Someone said to me once that in can help with the muzzle flip and that’s a plus for self defense. Really? I don’t think I!ll be paying attention to muzzle flip in a self defense scenario because my adrenaline will be running high. Have you ever been in an auto accident in a vehicle with air bags? I was recently and I don’t even remember when the air bags deployed because of the sudden adrenaline rush.

I have an old race gun made back in 1990, it's in 9x25 Dillon. The Dillon has a lot of gas pressure at the muzzle and the brake is tuned for 124 grain bullets, if I run lighter bullets the muzzle will actually dip down a little when firing. Not a big deal and 95 grain bullets at 2000 fps are a lot of fun.....lol

After adding/running a Harrington Arms comp, it came loose and jammed my P320. Full discloser, I wasn’t running lock tite like the instructions said, but all the screws were cranked hard. It did help with recoil and muzzle rise, however it was another point of failure. A builtin slide may help with reliabilty. For range shooting and competition a slide is fun, but for self-defense, no comp. Most Police and Military are not running comps on pistols.

Your recoil spring is probably the right weight for those comps. I have an HB comp on my CZ p10c and have had reliability issues with it doe to the fact that I run a 15lb recoil spring on mine. I’ve found them to be detrimental to pistols that come in and out of a holster too. I did find it fun at the range, but every session began with diligent inspection of my gear, which is just required. If you don’t want extra steps, don’t do it. You can run say 147 grain lawman fmj and it will feed without spending extra for +p ammo. I’ve found a micro comp doesn’t disturb the natural balance the pistol was designed with, and runs extremely reliably with zero alterations and better holster compatibility. I run a Faxon Fluted barrel and micro comp on my MOS 45, runs like a champ

Once, for grins and giggles, I shot a pin match with my Lightweight Colt Commander, also in .45ACP. Using the exact same 230gr. ammo, my times with my Lightweight Colt Commander were only 0.23 second slower than for my comped gun. Comps 'look cool', but they have little practical value on self defense handguns. YMMV

60fps isn’t substantial with quality ammo, and if you are using a 19 and a comp, the threaded portion will take you up to the 17 length barrel, you’ll actually typically see better penetration with slightly slower velocity because the expansion is a bit slower. As for damage, it’s a pistol caliber going pistol caliber speeds, you aren’t seeing tissue damage outside of what the projectile touches.

I have PMM comps on 3 of my Glocks. JTTC micro on my G26 and G19 and The single port duty comp on my G45. All gen5 guns with factory recoil springs. I shoot nothing but AAC 124gr fmj on the range and i carry with Hornady 135gr +p+ and have had zero trouble out of any of them. Ive ran some cheaper, lighter, less powered ammo and have and zero issues as well. They have been absolutely outstanding! They make that Hornady 135 +p+ feel like a tula 115gr lol

Awesome video - I know why your subscribers continue to increase. You tell it like how it is. Training trumpets modifications every time. I would love to see a video on how best to shoot a Glock model 22 (40 S&W) to have it handle like 9 mm pistol. There are a ton of police trade ins in .40 cal and a lot of us that own still 40 cal pistols. Trade them in, modify, or enhance our training?

Just two of your videos have saved me around $500. Long story short, spend money on range time, instead of cool guy gear. If you can do both, more power to you.
