Man I've knurled old race pistons for years....no hate here. I had one customers engine go for 3 seasons on old TRW pistons I knurled. he won a ton of races in a modified. and ran it until it was blowing so much oil even red rags and zip ties wouldn't help lol. I sometimes knurl new pistons and file them back down just for oil retention on some high boost or nitrous builds. It helps. I just ran across your channel brother. you have good content! Have the same knurler, did a set of pistons for a buddys race engine to tighten up clearance, recorded size and at end of season, they held their size.

Thanks for the video of using a knurling machine, Just seen this video, I did a video on knurling pistons in my lathe at home on an old piston but it was the first time I ever did it, I believe the knurling tool was to fine and I just went completely around the high spot on the piston skirt.

Well with my machine it only builds were need a lathe would require lot of finishing works I like hi cam were I only build up size

I've genuinely never heard of this process. It's very interesting, I'm looking to build an engine for my Miata soon. I probably won't do/need this. But its neat to know that the option exists

Normally I prefer to bore and new pistons but we're a hone 005 or 010 in cases were if pistons are not in bad shape knurled pistons is a option. Were boring is really not needed but honing the engine puts piston clearance past spec it's a option for customers when they don't want to buy custom use it mostly on freshen up on custom race piston there are benefits with the knurling hold some oil on piston skirts at cut down on friction but 90 percent of the time new set of pistons and bore and hone is the way I go

Hastings had one too, I have one. Use it exactly for this reason. Knurled a set of forged pistons so I could reuse them in sleeves that were honed out +.010”. Got 6 pulling seasons out of them before the sleeves cavitated through.
