The best machinist I know taught me that slow and steady wins the race when it comes to machining.

Used to fool with old mopars every set of heads I'd tore down had knurled valve guides never seen it done on a piston

My dad was huge into MG-Austin Healey 3000’s and we’d open up a motor and find knurled pistons. On my recent Makita 5000 build I cut horizontal oil lines on that ex skirt. About 2-3 thou deep and I go edge to edge those grooves aren’t enough to make a difference In performance. Also chamfer the piston edges and specifically the skirt bottoms so they don’t act like a scraper and wipe the bore clean when hot. Small details like these can really help. Cool stuff

Now to machine a whole engine design. Like a rotary wankel chainsaw, that would be an amazing feat. Also Mahle was a good piston company.

No I've never seen a knurl piston vid we use to do that to old wore out race engines back before KZitem was ever around I learned it from an old timer that I use to hang out with my buddy at his shop still has a actual piston knurler sits in the corner

@@CharlesBrisco smokey would do that on some of his race motor builds... the idea was multifaceted... oil retention and keeping the ring contact patch proper.
