Well.....to be fair when you step on the gas pedal you pull a Wire which turns a flap letting more air into the engine and at the same time the electronics make sure that the appropriate amount of fuel for that amount of air gets sprayed in for the combustion which obviously is the process that makes the pistons move when the fuel+Air mixture gets ignited by spark plugs. P.S: this is a pretty rough explanation, and not all engines work exactly like this.

Depends on how you define weight. Most people consider it synonymous to mass because on earth objects at rest have equal mass and weight by convention. Though in an engineer context weight is mass times acceleration. Measured in newton units. So a 5kg object being accelerated at 20m/s^2 has a resting weight of 49 newtons, and an accelerating weight of 100 newtons. Note, one must use Pythagoras theorem to combine the gravitational weight with the accelerating weight, accounting for the angle between the two with trigonometry or vector algebra.

A luz do ABS acendeu imediatamente.

Amazing technology with the internal conbustion engine ..i remember when I dissected my first engine: 1.5 L 4 cylinder Honda, I wasn only 2 at the time but was able to out it back in no time with new rings, crankshaft, pistons, rocker arms, oil pump, my daddy was so proud of me he let me tirn down his transmission on his ram truck.

What were the rpms there? So fascinating to finally see how fast pistons move. Awesome.

I look at that and think "man, those seem to be moving impossibly fast" _and then I remember that I'm a helicopter mechanic, and helicopters shouldn't physically be able to fly to begin with._

That’s an air compressor, took me a sec to figure it out. Looked like a 2 stroke boat motor, but the crankcases are completely separated on those.

Yes, that’s what a piston “moment” looks like.😂

If this is how fast the pistons move, I can’t imagine how fast the valve train is opening and closing the valves as well as the spark plugs firing. The speed at which combustion takes place is quite incredible.
@mrbmp09

While still amazingly fast, the valvetrain rotates 1/2 the crankshaft speed.

Engine oil is such a marvel, keep an engine working with oil and it will run almost forever and without it, it barely will survive a few minutes

I always find it hard to imagine how they can go through the combustion cycle that fast. Exhaust valve open, exhaust valve closed, intake valve open intake valve closed, compression, fuel and spark at the exact moment it is needed. All in a fraction of a second. I know this is not doing that, but engines do operate at that speed.

It’s fascinating that the inlet & outlet valves are able to deal with the fuel/air mixture & exhaust gases at such a high speed , not to mention ignition of the fuel/air mixture at precisely the rite time. I understand fully but damn it still fascinates me.

Good idea! I think they are powered by a twin engine which is thus sychronized to the movement of the two pistons.
