Sam- thanks for the support, you should head up to the showroom one day. As far as spools go, no, they do not need to be the same brand as the stand. I do like the PitBull spools though, or you could look at the Woodcraft slider spools as another option. ~Aubrey

PB stands are awesome. I've had a set for ten years going and even thought they're trashed up looking ( my fault ), these stands are built to last. They have served lifting my RC51 and other lighter bikes for many years. I also have the front stand with adapter that lifts the bike from the steering stem, which has been very useful for fork maintenance several times. A+ stands that are better constructed that other stands I've looked at. I was too paranoid that my Lockhart Philips stand would fall apart if I used it on my RC51. I keep that around for lighter bikes.

In my opinion assistance is needed only to set the stand up. Once that is completed it is a one man show. In this video we also installed a set of spools. We needed Nick to hold the bike then as well because the kick stand has been removed from the bike.

Those stands are very nicely made and you can buy a variety of parts. I keep an eye out for used Pit Bull stands because I'm cheap and I can adapt them to anything I own I also own one of their motorcycle jacks and it's stability is outstanding when working on Harleys etc. I'm going to drill and tap my FXR rear axle for spools (you can do that with most solid axles if you don't mind unscrewing the "nut side" spool for rear tire changes) rather than mod the swingarm.

They're only recommending having a friend help steady the bike while you adjust it to fit. Once you get the stand to fit your bike, its easy enough to lift it and align it on your own. Least I don't have any problems lifting my bike with my rear stand..

@oVoLaTiLex In that case you would use the stand when you work on the bike, clean the wheels or when you store the bike for a longer period.

@timsdonuts : I agree that one person is well able to easily maneuver a rear stand (even petite-sized female rookie riders such as myself) as long as the bike is aligned upright...I'd suggest placing a brick or something under the kickstand that'll help to keep the bike upright...though it wouldn't hurt to have a friend help.

An inexpensive investment that will always be used is a quality torque wrench. You can tighten bolts and spools w/o but you will always run the risk of them vibrating out. If you torque them to spec., that risk is reduced or eliminated.
@sportbiketrackgear

These stands are worth every penny. As for the torque wrench I agree it should be in your box, this is especially true if you do not have a ton of personal hands on mechanical experience. I have a couple torque wrenches in the box and use them selectively. Personal preference, I was also a tech at a Cadillac Dealer for 20 years before I started STG. - Van

I have enough wrench turning experience for minor car repair. On bikes i have ZERO. Im working on that because its way too expensive to take my bike to the shop for relatively simple things. Plus, having to leave it there is quite heart breaking. 👍

Im on a 08 CBR 600rr. I tried it once by lifting the bike off the stand and holding the tail and the stand and putting the mount under the spools and lifting it but that felt like I was on edge of tipping it over. I was just wondering if there was a solid almost no fall technique or if you had to do what I was doing and balance it and be sure not to drop it over. So I got it up I was just wondering if there was an easier way.

Great video as always STG except for one thing. The spooled v notch actually goes tall end toward the rear of the motorcycle not the front. The reason is when the stand is installed, the v notch is level with the ground. The way you have them in this video, the v notch is lower in the rear when on the ground. Still a good video , love your store and all your helpful employees!!

It has mounts for spools,I just purchased a set of spools. I just want to make sure I get a sturdy stand. My bike is a little over 500lbs . Tired of rolling my bike all over my driveway to clean & lube my chain. I've seen some stands look iffy but the one your demonstrating looks heavy duty.

I'm not sure what others ones you may have looked at but, yes, a lot of them aren't going to hold up to the weight of your bike. These PitBull stands are very sturdy and might outlast your bike... I've seen them go through some serious abuse and still look almost brand new. Can't go wrong with PitBull quality. Shoot us an email to Orders@sportbiketrackgear.com and one of the guys can take care of you. Thanks!
