You should sit on the elevator side when dropping in your bounce board. Just lay the carpet on the pin deck and slide the bounce board into it from the rear of the machine. Just make sure your carpet and bounce board directions are correct. That way you can angle your bounce board slightly to get the carpet around the pit support before lowering the bounce board. That way you don't pinch the carpet between the bounce board and pit support. less likely to damage the carpet when installing it. And once again your sweep can stay down and you'll be safe.

I've only been working on 82-70s for a year, been fortunate to not have to do a pit job, our seasoned mechanic handles that, but he's 56, I do what I can to relieve his work load, and soon I'm going to have to learn how to do this. My biggest concern is that I'm 6'3" 330lbs... There's not a whole lot of room in there, it's already quite amusing to watch me crawl around in the pit or on the pin deck.

That can be an issue. Patience and perseverance is the name of the game. This was the fastest I've ever done a pit rebuild and it took me about 3 hours. It's not a quick process. Glad I could help you out. Look for more videos to come.

the only thing i do different when i change a carpet is i remove ball door flap and shove both rollers through the ball door into the other lane and before i put bounce board on bolts i put the back roller in place then bolt down bounce board and put front roller in place last
