Good job covering this situation, I'm no good at light rail and bus schedules and routes, so I would loose my ever loving mind figuring this one out.. thanks for the info.

If it's a 10 min ride, then a single bus could run a 30 minute headway (10 up, 5 dwell, 10 down, 5 dwell). 2 buses could run 15 min headways and 3 buses could run 10 min headways. They should just pick a number of buses they think they can consistently achieve and post a regular schedule.

That's PRT for you. A few months back, we decided to stay in the city for a concert. At that time, they were doing work that severed the light rail line into two right before crossing the river to the south hills. Therefore, there were "local subways" running from north shore into the city. We used the light rail multiple times that day to get around the city, and never waited more than 2 minutes, even late at night. It was great. But the truth is, this service was so much faster than when they are on their regular schedule, especially later at night. Pittsburgh has better public transit infrastructure than most US cities with the busways and such, but lack of frequency stops it from being great

Wow and I thought the MBTA was bad at rail replacement communication and organization... 5 buses could theoretically run service every 5-6 minutes with layover, alas... Good video as always!

Thank you for bringing us this video, bus substitutions can quite often be a problem. The local railroad has a fixed point for them and even a photograph of the pick up point. They have this for all of their stations just in case of any problems or some predetermined maintenance work. It is quite an interesting bus journey you had and the buses are in good condition.

Typical problems when the transit authority substitutes busses for rail service. They either don’t have enough busses to cover the service or as in your case overcommit resources to do what could be done with less. As you noted it is only about a 10 minute run and if they scheduled the busses every 15 min. Three busses should be plenty to cover the service. Maybe add a fourth at peak times if ridership is higher. The biggest problem I see however was the hard to understand where you actually board the bus at the Station Square location.

so the incline drivers and buses are overtime and if no one signs up no shuttles if they do sign up and they can have up to 4 they want it to run every 15-30 mins

I think they have 4 Busses so they can run 2 together if there is demand for it
