Love this bc it allows for the chord stab on the downbeat - thank you

I love the idea of pivots and of changing it up -- either the octave chosen or the sequence in which you do the pivot. /kengon P.S. I also really enjoy that you keep it real with your videos and talking about the stuff that you need to practice. For any of us that are on a Barry journey, there's so much to investigate/explore, it'd really be the height of arrogance to say that we "have it all nailed." There's a lifetime of joy and exploration to be had here.

Hey Chris . I've been subscribed to you for 3 years and I'm getting gigs now . You changed my life . So much to work on but I love doing it. I'd love to learn about Barry's approach to endings of songs .

sometimes i like to think of the 8 eighth notes like they are scale degrees. they each have a unique character and you can spend time getting to know one at a time

Thank you- sounds really good. At first I wondered how could this work? It works Because they are all chord tones -but it’s where you land that will differ, with regard to a chord tone being on or off the beat if you are using a scale after the pivot. ps good for saxophone but absolutely critical for trumpet! So helpful!

A great example of a TUNE that pivots exactly the way you describe it is bar 2 of Afternoon in Paris… in fact every minor seventh chord (iim7) is written that way in the A sections.
