There are several major problems within Disney on why their movies are flopping. One, budgets, the budgets are too high. $200,000,000 for Elemental. Really?! It cost 150 million for Spider-verse and Puss in Boots. You can't make a movies cost a quarter of $1 billion then expect it to make $1 billion just because you're a big company. Two, marketing, the marketing for every movie from Disney has been garbage. No interviews, no hot ones, barely any trailers, no promotions with Disney KZitemrs, and the list goes on. Marketing is vital for any movie and if it's bad, then the movie will get no money. Three, victim blaming, they are blaming the audience for their failures and not themselves. No, it's not anyone's fault but yours that your movie bombed, Disney! if you blame the audience, then they're not going to watch anything you make because they know you're going to get mad at them and not yourself for why your movie failed. Fourth, target audience, let's be real, Disney shouldn't be marketing to kids or any side of the political party. They NEED to target the parents. Parents are the ones who decide what their kids watch. Parents are the ones who will spend their money on their kids so they are the ones who Disney needs to market to. If parents don't want their kids watching Disney, then they are lost as a company.
@edwarddu6919

You say that as if parents in our modern world won't just cancel or boycott these movies as both sides of the aisle say if the movies don't support their political opinions. Creativity dies when you bend to the whims of mass appeal. I personally argue that marketing to parents won't work for the creation of truely creative movies and instead, directors should tell the stories they want.

Awkwafina was nauseating as Scuttle. But you can't say that without someone bringing it back to Halle and saying you just don't like the movie because you can't handle a black Disney princess. You forgot 1 more point, originality. Almost nothing Disney has made this past decade has not been a prequel, sequel or reboot. Especially in their live action department. Isn't it insane how literally everyone in Hollywood is desperate to rebound in success while simultaneously avoiding ways to accomplish that because they are just that out of touch? It might be cool but I could make an Indiana Jones style movie about treasure hunting 3) They can still inject some personal experiences into the movies 4) They are still going to make original stuff 5) Isn't it better to judge the movies on their own merit 6) That was always the tricky thing balancing art with commerce. The point is to make money at the end of the day.

What Pixar and other studios like Dreamworks, Sony and Ilumination don't seem to understand is that what the people dislikes is badly written stories. Turning Red and Soul were very good, speaking of themes a lot of people can relate like our relationships with our parents or what do we want to do with our lives. I cannot speak for Luca and Elemental because I haven't watched those but it seems to appeal to a lot of people. Lightyear on the other side, it was not that bad but it was pretty mediocre. The same can be said of Incredibles 2 even tho it's a little older. But is not like sequels are necessarily bad. Monster University and Cars 3 were pretty solid( again a bit older but it works), heck, even Toy story 4 worked even if it was a bit unnecesary in the story. The issue is that they don't let stories thrive in the hands of the creative teams and instead the executive are cuting past the edges, substracting the movies of their precious hearts. An example of this is clearly Wish, which is not pixar but is disney still. Moving into dreamworks Puss in Boots 2 is a sequel of a Spin off!! And the movie was amazing because it innovate not only with its story but also its animation. On the other side, Kung Fu Panda 4 was a mess with barely anything good on it because the writing was bad. Now on their original movies, Ruby Gillman flopped hard and The Bad Guys thrived so again it's not necessarily true that new ideas are bad It also doesn't work that the studios doesn't even respect their artists. Both Dramworks and Pixar have announced massive layoffs to save their precious millions. Prefering to use ai or cheap outsourcing, once again robbing the movies of the creativity that people loved

Elemental has skyrocketed to being my favorite movie. It really touched my heart. When I heard about it I wouldn't stop talking about going to see it for weeks. I just knew that I at least was going to like it because something about elements is up my alley and I'm a huge sucker for a good romance, especially an "interracial" romance. I absolutely loved it because Ember directly mirrors me. I'm not an immigrant and I'm black, not Asian. But still, discrimination and mistreatment from other people, family having high expectations for you and feeling like you can't be your true self around them, having a a fiery temper because you have a difficult time understanding and expressing your true feelings? Those are the ABCs of me. Wade perfectly mirrors my fiance (who's white) and it was like seeing our relationship on the big screen. I got a little emotional during some parts of it. Anyway I say all that to say that Elemental almost felt like old Pixar again. From the beautiful story with the movie really tugging at your heart strings (typical Pixar), the STUNNING animation and the fact that they weren't afraid to do a love story considering Disney has been trying to stay AWAY from love stories lately (cough cough *Wish* cough cough), it felt like something Pixar would have come up with 10 years ago. I would have loved to have grown up watching something like Elemental. 😍

I feel the same way. I heard nothing but negativity about Elemental when it was in theaters. Saw it at home with my husband and I was blown away, I got chills, we both laughed and cried. That movie deserves far better than it received. Definitely reminiscent of the old Pixar days.

I really hope Elio is well received because if it isn’t we might not get an original movie from Pixar for a good long while. All the Lightyear slander is making me feel alienated tho just because that’s the only Pixar movie in recent memory that I’ve rewatched multiple times but I do still love the rest of Pixar’s output from this decade so far. Most of the blame rests solely on Disney and I feel so bad for Pete Docter he’s in such an unwinnable position.

The Reason Strange World, Lightyear, and WISH failed and bombed hard at the box office was because they were all very bad movies and movies no one liked. Wish showed how Soulless disney has become Strange World was annoying Lightyear was trying to make parody character like Buzz Lightyear a serious story

Not only that, Buzz Lightyear already have a cartoon show and they didnt even bother to use it as the main idea of the movie, even thought the cartoon is actually good. It like they forgot that Buzz Lightyear come from the same year as Toys Story...

It bothers me so much that Docter says that Elemental had a bad opening weekend. Who cares if it started roughly when it eventually made much more money down the line!?! This is really just a testament to bad marketing if it started slowly. And then people who did see it thought it was good and recommended it to others. People didn't do that with Lightyear because it wasn't good

Part of the problem may also be the animation style. Pixar’s been using the same style for years, which can be not only boring but also uncanny. I don’t really enjoy looking at Pixar human models. Maybe if they played with something new and actually created better stories instead of cheap spinoffs or politically charged material, I’d watch their movies.

i think the real reason to is lightyear is a example of a movie who can sell "toys", and lucca, red and soul despite being good stories, they are not the ones that you would turn into toys. i mean, that´s what i think.

Pixar used to have heart and story at the heart of every product. Disney tried to break them when certain members of staff resigned. Now they are forced to make money and not given a decent chance when they finally make something original again.

It genuinely makes me pissed the way they talk about soul, turning red and Luca, like especially Luca for me because I am gay and watching that movie made me feel so seen. Even if I can't relate to soul in the same way doesn't mean it's a bad story that I won't watch just because I'm not the targeted audience because I'm white, the fact that it's still personal makes me want to watch it anyway!(plus, to hear about experiences that I haven't gone through are still important) But things like lightyear? I could not give a damn. It just sucks how so much media have been bought off and now they all just feel like the same boring and bland work..

Pixar trying to do "mass appeal" when they and Disney have completely lost any idea on what people want is ironic. This company still hasn't realized that they can't sell based off their name alone anymore. Now they need good ORIGINAL stories to sell their movies. Luca, Turning Red, etc. showed that people DO want these types of stories. If Disney is so worried about losing the "anti-woke" audience, then they've already lost them. Any movie Disney or Pixar does, they'll find a way to call it woke. Even then, it's such a minority. Yes they're vocal, but a lot more people either don't care and just want a good movie, or don't take those num nuts seriously anyways.

Inside Out 2 makes me mad bc it’s clear they’re basically gonna rehash the first one but with the addition of the new emotions. The main five from the og are gonna be thrown out and have to explore Riley’s mind to learn about the changing life of a tween and her new experiences. We’ll see how Riley’s brain is changing until they and the new emotions inevitably learn that they’re all part of the whole that is Riley and that she needs them all to be well rounded.

I am gonna say this: Doctor is the Harvey Dent/Two-Face of animation executives. He went from "Fresh Chip of the Block who belived in the power of animation to tell original stories, to a crippling suit who will shorten original stories in favor of "Mass appeal". what the masses want are those personal stories because relatable, personal stories are going to carry us. That immortal philosophy: "You either go down a hero or you live ve long enough to see yourself become the villain." Perfectly describes Pete Doctor's arc, saying there is no point in telling original stories when you got endless cashgrabs in the form of sequels.

Note to self: When time travel is invented Bring Dana Terrace back in time and Replace Pixar's Toy Story With The Owl House and it'll maybe make more money than the first 3 Toy Story Films Combined at the box office, But They all still have to be G-Rated (Which can still have very scary and violent themes in them) and there's no LGBT until the third movie because it's released over a decade after it's prequels (Which is the excuse for why it had a long "hiatus") while the studio makes other high quality original animated films during that "hiatus".

Pixar hasn’t felt like Pixar since Coco in my opinion. Also, it’s important to note, the longer a film is in theaters the less of a percentage the studio gets. So the fact that Elemental eventually made more money doesn’t really matter since in its first two weeks the box office was low.

Without Lassiter, Pixar no longer has a future. Disney got rid of one their best creatives and several Pixar crew went with him to Skydance. It is quite likely that Skydance can end up like another Pixar but without Disney interference in the way. As for Pixar itself, if it does not get another big hit, it might as well just get merged into Disney Animation and thus ending Pixar.
@hunterolaughlin

I hate to tell you the truth, and not just the truth, but the HARD truth, but Skydance Animation isn’t doing so well either even with John Lasseter at the helm. Their film Luck didn’t do well critically and part of it is because of John Lasseter. The dude is no longer the influential animation creative and innovator he once was and I highly doubt bringing him back would solve Pixar’s current dilemma. Also, aren’t you forgetting that John sexually assaulted his female employees by hugging and kissing them without their consent and treating them pretty badly? Disney, for all of its dumb decisions, made the right choice in getting rid of him.

Honestly I think they could make a sequel to Onward, like have it take place two years after the first film, Barley got his act together & has a job in a car repair shop & is taking online college classes training to become a mechanic, and Ian is getting close to graduating high school & worries about his future, but then some great evil from the past/a villain from Quest of Yore returns to take over the world, the brother's home gets attacked & now they go out on a new quest to find some magic macguffin that can stop this villain & save their home, along the way they make some new friends who join them on this adventure, and pull an Avengers where the party uses their individual skills & talents to stop the villain & save the day, after which Ian finally graduates & begins a new phase of his life based on what he learned from their recent adventure, I'd pay to see something like That in theaters.
