Been using my 6a since Google announced the $300 trade-in for my 4a... and I regret the swap. The gains (faster chip, 5G, increased battery capacity) are minor and actually not even noticeable. However, the losses are all major annoyances for me: #1 The new fingerprint sensor is absolute trash. Slow, inaccurate, unreliable, inconveniently placed, and yes - really, really slow compared to the 4a. The 4a allowed you to just tap the dedicated rear FP sensor, and unlock the phone instantly. The new FP unlock requires you to activate the front screen sensor with a shake or button push, then press on the correct location (can be a pain with one-handed operation) and hold for a second, and then hope it recognizes your finger, which it usually doesn't. And even when it eventually does, it then goes to your PIN pad instead of directly unlocking the phone. So then you have to enter your PIN, which is exactly what you are supposed to be avoiding with the fingerprint unlock. Furthermore, it's fully invasively integrated with your various app and website biometric unlocks, so if you disable the sensor for screen lock you can't use it to access apps or websites which use biometric unlocks. Seriously, pure crap! And you get these annoyances dozens of times per day while using your phone, every time wishing you had your 4a sensor instead. #2 No headphone jack. This might mean nothing to people who like their wireless earbuds, but I far prefer my trusty wired earbuds. Which I can't use anymore. Not only that, I can't even use my USB-C wired earbuds while charging. Again, a major inconvenience for me and similar users. #3 It's just a bit too bulky. The 4a was the perfect size for one-handed operation - the 6a is just a hair too big. Yes, the camera is better. But the 4a camera was actually very good (until the recent "update" that caused edge blurring). I doubt I'll notice any difference with most photos taken in good light. Yes, the chip is faster. But the performance gain is imperceptible in most applications. Maybe if you do a lot of video editing you'll notice a difference. I didn't. Yes, there's a bigger battery. But my old 4a ran all day anyway, so I won't even notice additional capacity in a typical day. Yes, the 6a uses 5UC (or 5G LTE, or whatever) where the 4a only used 4G LTE. But I haven't noticed any difference in my everyday use. Videos streamed fine on my old 4a, just as well as on my 6a. The small gains are outweighed by the big annoyances. Although it's tempting to get a 6a for just $150 after trade-in, I was happier with my 4a and recommend NOT trading yours in.

@@Robin-wr3qv it's very similar to Pixel 4A. Because of the more powerful chip, it will drain faster. I'm not a power user. I leave home for work about 8:30am on 100% and during the day I use it for what's app during the day, about an hour of video streaming, maybe play a game for about 30 mins, and using social media, sometimes satnav too and I get home between 6:30pm to 7pm on average with 30% left. If I were to play more games, use camera, stream I could get through the battery in no time. But that's the minus of having a 6 inch phone. @@mikusion S22 is a good upgrade over the Pixel 4A. There has been lots of bugs reported on the pixel 6 that for the first time Samsung's software is now better and supports it longer. 120hz, wireless charging, water resistance, best screen, perfect size, much brighter screen you can actually see in sunlight unlike the Pixel and obviously a faster chip that handle most things. It does get warm a lot and I don't game a lot and doesn't have the headphone jack like the 4A. The pixel 4a did everything I needed it but it's a worthwhile upgrade. I'm using a 4a as a daily driver for the past 1+ year, and it has this certain charm that makes it hard for me to give up on it. Extremely light, very easy to use and the rear camera given its additional processing time - has ridiculous image quality (even some of my friends with newer, flagship phones collective jaws drop especially with astrophotography). It hits just the right amount of boxes. The biggest gripe for me though would be the front camera quality. Even if I don't use the front camera that much, if at all.. whenever I DO use it, the quality is just really disappointing.

I got mine in October 2020. It’s currently November 2022 and IMO it is still very much worth holding onto for another year. The 6A is on sale right now for $299 which is an insane deal since that is $50 less than what I paid for the 4A a couple years ago. Very tempting but I think I will resist the urge since I am still content with the performance of the 4A and very much prefer the smaller size. I know I am far from alone in preferring a smaller phone and hopefully Google listens and shrinks the 7A back down to the size of the 4A. It’s the perfect size.

I bought a 4a5g about a year ago and it's working great. I love the touch sensor on the back and how great photos turn out. It handles daily activities well and plays most games that I throw at it other than Genshin. The reasons I opted for the 4a5g over the 4a despite the $150 price difference was that it was bigger, had a larger battery, better processor, and 5g support. But now the 5a5g exists and it saddens me a little. The 5a5g has the same/better specs than the 4a5g and at a $50 lower price point but it does lose the headphone jack. While I certainly don't need to replace my current phone anytime soon, I have no idea what I would change. Not having a headphone jack is a deal breaker for me, so I feel like I'll end up just getting another 4a5g when my current one starts reaching the end of its life. I think an interesting topic you can cover could be the best choices for smartphones with headphone jacks in 2022

I don't know, but even the cheap phones looks better than Pixel 4a. The chipset is expensive, but the phone only has Gorilla glass 3 and is a 2020 phone. The screen is smaller than iPhone 11 which is considered small. 5.8" is big if 16:9, but small if 19.5:9. The camera doesn't look good for the price

About the 4a's water resistance. I accidentally dropped my 4a in a bucket of water being used for grouting my bathroom. It was in there a full 35 minutes before I noticed it was missing. I only found it by using "find my device." When I did pull it out it of the bucket the phone informed me that the charging port was wet and that I should not plug it in. I threw it in a bag of rice for a couple of days and am still using the phone 18 months later. While the phone was in the bag I kept texting using the google messages chrome app. This phone is tough; I've never felt the need for a case. Modern phones are just way too big.

No it's not. It has like 5000 bugs, the worst phone I've ever had. In dire need of a new phone but currently broke lmao. edit: Oh, the battery is shtty too. The only good things about this phone are its compact size and decent back camera.

The problem is people are using their phones for literally everything. And so they want a larger screen to do said tasks such as watching movies, or document creation. I think if more people stuck with having productive tasks for laptops/desktops as they should then the market for smaller phones would be as strong.

Yes it's worth it. It's gonna get updates till August 2023. And there is basically not much difference between the camera performance of pixel 7 and 4a. Battery wise it takes a hit but it can charge faster so it can be covered up. It is really handy as well.

The Pixel 4a is not worth it in 2022 especially going into 2023. Great first phone for a new teenager but at this moment, Pixel 5 series or better. I had a 4a that I left in a draw for 2 years and now I just got $300 back for it to get the 6a.

It's not worth just a lot of software issues. Pinch to zoom doesn't work bf some part so the screen are unresponsive to touch. I use landscape mode to touch the part of screen I want to touch. It's frustrating I won't ever buy a pixel again they're just buggy and have to wait for update and sometimes it doesn't solve if the problem affects few pple. Samsung is a better choice no software bugs

If people want to compact phone and only have a couple hundred bucks, it's an easy recommendation. The pixel 3 actually offers some benefits like a glass build, wireless charging and squeeze for assisting, but it won't get Android 13 or 14. And it doesn't have some of the newer pixel feature drops like the time-lapse astromode. But basically, if you want to contact phone your options are s10e, pixel 3 (but neither will get Android 13, which wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me but it might be for some). Or, if you have more money to spend you could get a z flip or the Asus Zenfone 8 or 9. But if you only got 200 bucks and you want the compact phone that's still supported for another year and a half, pixel 4A is really the only game in town.

As a user of pixel 4a and also mine is the first order in India, I say that it’s not so good for gaming like codm it stutters so much, battery is for like 3-5 hours per charge when gaming we get 2 hours so overall it’s ok but the OS has so many buggy glitches
@portman8909

I wouldn't buy it now unless you absolutely have to. Wait for the next iPhone SE which hopefully will get an OLED edgeless display. That'll be a solid small phone with a minimum of 5 years of security updates. But yes, the Pixel 4a is a good phone. Probably the best I've owned, but for security reasons I think you should wait for something newer. Again depends how much important stuff is stored on your phone. I myself have 2FA keys etc, so running a phone without security wouldn't be wise.

I’m still rocking my Pixel 4a 5g without a problem. The only thing I dislike. Is the 128 storage option. They need to start increasing the storage amount on the A series. I’ve never experienced the rainbow effect on my Pixel phone and it charges fast. You kidding me. The pictures are top notch. No problems processing photos. At least. Not on mine.
