Regarding screen brightness, I get that the Pixel *looks* brighter on camera, but it just isn't in real life. Note at 5:27 how much darker the black areas look on the Pixel. This is because the Z Fold screen protector is reflecting more light and making the true brightness basically impossible to capture on camera. Both are OLED, both should be totally black, but on camera, the Z Fold looks hazy and almost grey. That same thing is happening to the entire screen skewing the appearance on camera.

I just bought the pixel and the fold6. The pixel screen didn't look as good or vibrant. Wasn't a bad phone but for the price it's missing too many fold specific features that you get from Samsung. If it was about 1400 I would have kept it but. I couldn't justify it being more expensive than the OnePlus open when it's inferior in every way. Also Samsung trade in came to $1320 for my fold 5 while google gave me $540 and a $350 dollar gift card. The value was way too lopsided for me.

@NuttinNyce I agree 100%, as well as this poster above. The zFold6 screen has a bit more intense color which makes it more vibrant. Plus the statement about Google simply NOT having "fold" specific features. It's as if they didn't pay no attention to this device, especially the multitasking is poor, having only two apps on such a big screen with no pen support! Then we have the home screen which is basically useless, with those huge icons not being able to have more rows, and not able to move two huge widgets on the main screen. It just destroys flexibility. Lastly, the superior OnePlus open sells on AliExpress for about 800 bucks(!), which is a ridiculous value, when we realize it is still Superior in every way. Plus it's software now rivals the Samsung, so it is (for me) the perfect compromise of having most features.

@IanHayes7
5 күн бұрын
I take your word that the Fold is brighter, but would suggest comparing colored areas instead of black ones. Comparing black areas on an OLED panel is probably not a good indicator of brightness since individual pixels handle their own backlighting and on true black OLED pixels backlighting should be off.

I think you're misunderstanding my point. You have two screens that are showing black, both are OLED and should be truly black, yet on camera the Z Fold's black looks like gray because it's reflecting more light on camera. Extend that same hazy reflectiveness to the rest of the screen and it might appear to be dimmer than the less reflective screen, even though it isn't.

You can upload a textbook or a manual in the chatbot window and then trigger Gemini Live and have an extensive conversation about the content. Gemini Live is restricted from doing things like controlling tech. It seems intentional to use either the chatbot window in the Gemini app or screen launch because neither have continuous conversation abilities. There are a lot of other things to make Gemini Live more useful.

If you're into foldables, this might be one of the better ones out there! I just switched to it from my P6, and I've had a pretty mixed experience for it being my first foldable. There's clearly some compromises around the board, and the aspect ratio of the internal display makes watching most media and games on it an awkward experience that either stretches uncomfortably, or just doesn't use most of the display, so it's down to how much you would use multitasking or Google's app suite. I also notice that when people talk about these phones, there is always the "for a foldable" caveat added to any outstanding remarks. (Ie, best battery for a foldable, great cameras for a foldable). So if you get good use out of the internal display enough to make the high price point worth it, then it's probably a great package! I don't think I'm personally a foldable kind of guy myself though, especially with the price tag and the additional compromises. Might end up returning it!

The way that you can interrupt the Assistant Typing tool to manual type, and then revert to the Assistant Typing tool fluidly without any jitters, is just magical. Another good review shane. The overlying theme seems to be consistent. The pixel is on par with other foldables. Your review seems to press the point of personal choice and usability. Too many people focus on the top end with little or no regard with usability... How you actually use the device. I've used zfolds with 4 or 5 open apps and felt useless. The pixel fold fits what i do. It does it well. I'm not asking myself how much happier I'd be with 4 tinier windows open at the same time. When i watch your videos, I'm thinking I'm watching a normal real world review by someone doing sensible tests of what normal people do. You're not throwing your phone 16ft in the air and regarding about the breakage. Your not running 4 screens with it world saving data and watching the phone melt. You review the phone doing what i think most people do. You compare real life action and results. Regardless of what specs say. Thanks for that. This is a real good phone. It does a lot of things we'll. A few things great, and very few things not so great. I'm not returning mine.

I known it is technically a square screen but still a few pixels more are available in the horizontal mode and in the split screen, it is lost. At 13:54, we see the horrid "At a Glance" widget taking over thw whole top of the screen, and the Google search bar widget stuck on bottom, leaving no space for actual icons, which are forced into folders that have to be opened first. So to say that this phone performs well is a smoke screen for the headaches of its limited UI, which also only does 2 apps multitasking and no stylus support on such a big screen.

It looks great, form factor is way better then z fold imo, but 1800$ is just too much. Even if you use it for 10 years, that's still 180$/year for a phone. Which is 15$ a month... Imagine that, if you could finance it for 10 years, and paying 15 a month for a decade. Sounds insane. I'ma wait a year or two, and get it used on ebay for like 500.

I'm enjoying mine, mainly as I do love pixel experience and camera. I've found a really nice and cheap case via AliExpress and battery life is better than my previous Motorola phone and comfortably lasted me as 13 hour day travelling a distance work office and back. I'm sure we'll get a few improvements via updates too. But plenty of competition so can be a hard choice for many. Oh, and seems my 9 year old daughter is a huge fan of the Gemini chat. I think it's her new bff 😂

Are the expectations of Google's 2nd gen foldable too high? Calling the 2nd generation "boring" seems like a critique that would used for a 3rd or 4th gen expectation. *Context - The P9P Fold is my 1st Pixel device and 1st foldable, so it's all new to me

Second gen foldable from Google, but we've had foldables like this for 6 years now. They *had* something that was novel and abandoned it for something just like what everyone else has been doing. I'm not saying everyone has to be bothered by that, just that it bums me out.

Hey Shane, I have a suggestion for your phone display brightness comparison. Next time, please ensure that both phones have the same wallpaper, picture, or content. This will help us better understand the difference in brightness. It's hard to distinguish the outdoor brightness when the images on both phones are different through a KZitem video. Thank you.

@@scaryifliteral only joking around. great review. REALLY want the OnePlus2 to come out before i change away from Samsung. O+1's lack of wireless charging was a deal breaker for me, or i would have gone that way. New Pixel fold looks pretty nice tho

If you want to play shooting games where you have to run around…it’s gonna lag for sure. But regular games like sniper games or candy crush style games its fine.

Not sure but I heard when it comes to the multitasking it is somehow less than the other foldable phones released within 2024.. Is that true ?
