Love the vid, and the oven looks handy for doing just one quick pizza. For a family gathering though I'd crack out a charcoal grill like a bullet smoker or mini egg. Did one last weekend using a 2.5cm thick cordierite stone, as close to the coal as possible. 400+ degrees grill temp, cooked about 10 pizzas. I'd still take one of these camping though .

The difference I find with these is, I make one-cook one, I make one-cook one and so on. With the KJ, I will make 3 or 4 and then cook them one after the other. I love this little pizza oven. I think it has its strengths over the kj but at the same time the kj has its strengths over the Arrosto.

Awsome pizza! Might have to pick up one of these bad boys, will save a heap of charcoal in the kamado. TIL: We have a new gas fitting in Australia, hopefully I can do a swap and go on the old bottle, looks like they are backwards compatible with POL fittings.
@glensaussiebbq4823
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate! Yeah so apparently there has been a change in legislation regarding the regulators on gas bottles. So the old style left handed thread gas bottles are being fazed out and replaced with right handed threaded gas bottles. I assume that’s so there won’t be any confusion as to whether it’s and old style regulator. No idea how long that change over is going to take though. So all new BBQs will most likely be coming out with a female right handed thread.

Hey mate, I was doing an unboxing video for the retailer. These are considerably cheaper in comparison. Having said that, the quality of the pizzas this unit produces is exceptional. I’m not sure what differences there are between similar models from Ooni, Gozney etc. I did want one that could also use wood as the fuel source. I can see myself getting a different brand down the track for a comparison. Would also make a great side by side video. Cheers!

Hey mate, this is a 12 inch pizza peel and it’s the perfect size for this oven! I’ve got a Round pizza peel for turning and find it more hassle than it’s worth in this sized oven to be honest. If the oven was bigger then it may be more beneficial. I see them use them in the Ooni etc but they come in all different sizes. I’d spend that money on buying the best pizza peel you can get. I’ve got the Ooni 12 inch peel and it’s fantastic.

Then let them get to room temp before making the pizzas. The video is time stamped so you can just jump to the dough process. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1IGA15-hbZ2gfZg

G'day Glen. Just bought one of these (pretty much soley because I saw the results you've managed with it haha) and I've done my first cook. I saw the vid you posted showing the bottom of the crust nice and dark but I haven't been able to achieve the same without the top burning. I had the oven preheating for a good 40 mins but couldn't get the stone to 400C. Have you got any troubleshooting tips for getting the stone to temp? Keep up the great work!
@glensaussiebbq4823
8 ай бұрын
Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. If your top is burning before your base has time to cook, try preheating like you have been and then drop your temp to medium or low before you launch your pizzas. I had tried all different temps when I was using this unit but haven’t been doing much on it lately. The only problem with dropping the temp before the launch is you don’t tend to get that spotting effect on the crust (which I love) but this should help your base to cook better.

Hey mate, is your pizza charring on the bottom as well? Just got the oven today the top of my pizza is cooked perfectly but the bottom/middle is still not completely cooked, tried leaving the pizza in for longer but the crust starts to burn, appreciate any tips you have
@deaconcsvic2969
2 жыл бұрын
Trick mate is to make sure you do not have excess flour on the pizza base Or have your stone too hot. The flour will instantly char and produce a black bitter taste. Get a gun thermometer (cheap) & heat your stone to around 400oc. Get OO flour if you are cooking in high heat otherwise turn your heat down for other flour types. Once you get the pizza oven to temp and before you launch your Pizza turn the gas down to low. This will give your base time to cook. If you have a round turning Peel this makes spinning the Pizza easy while remaining in the oven otherwise just spin it like Glen did in the vid. Once the base is cooked and if you want to cook the top a little more then "dome" the pizza. This means slide your peel under the pizza and lift it to the top of the pizza oven where the super hot air is. This will crisp up the top of your pizza. Sure you will be banging out great pizzas in no time.

Hey mate, here’s a link to a little video I did on this actual pizza showing the base. Unlike the KJ, you won’t get a crispy base (well I haven’t a way) It’s a totally different experience. It’s kind of like the new York style pizza. But it does cook all the way through. How thick are you making your base mate? Also, are you going half temp, spin, spin,spin and then dropping temp right down to low? instagram.com/p/CfAp_dBhZhM/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

@@e46xM3 yeah roger mate. It can take some time to get the dough nice and thin. Just keep practising mate and you will get there, trust me! You can always try turning it off instead of down to the lowest position. That way you shouldn’t run the risk of burning and the pizza stone will still be hot to help the base continue to cook

@glensaussiebbq4823

Hey mate, yes I can’t see why not! Certainly make it easier if you’re just starting out making your own dough. You may have to do a high temp before launching and then turn it right down from the start though. The dough takes the heat from the pizza stone which starts to absorb the water in the base of the dough. So it may need a little longer if it’s on a tray (depending on the tray itself)
