I have yet to see a compilation (not of short clips, but a thurough one) of all the "new" stuff, they added to SoD. Everything I seem to hear is "Oh this random npc now drops a new questitem, that starts a more or less interesting questline that gives a new ability at the end". That doesn't sound too exciting for me, but people keep praising it, so I'd be really glad if someone would actually do such a thing. No intention to hint at you, since your content has a vastly different style than this hunting after being the first to show of the newest stuff, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

You left out my favourite place. The little farm overlooking the Wetlands. You can get there from the dwarven airfield with careful drops or slowfall. There is also the cabin with Defias above the Mirror Lake waterfall in Elwyn. Most players miss it although it has easy access. And there is the bugged world under Stormwind. And the Hellfire "preview" under the Blasted Lands but that one I never managed to get to.

I love stuff like this. It's honestly probably the reason why classic WoW has hooked me in a way that a lot of other mmo's didn't. The scope of the world was just massive especially for the time and all the little hideaways in-between were great to just stumble upon. Immediately I'm reminded of the unmarked grave in Duskwood behind Darkshire and the existence of The Unseen in Raven Hill. I loved all the little oddities that weren't quest important or even significant in the grand scheme but were cool, like the twin colossals in Feralas or the dwarven farmhouses strewn about.

The thing that made me fall in love with wow was the atmosphere and just existing in the world. Thanks for making this lovely video. I played WoW from March of 2005 through June of 2022. Our guild was a Horde guild named Obsidian Spur, originally on Sargeras up through Mists of Pandaria, and then we moved the guild to Thrall where it still resides. My name was Wretchedmist, undead priest and GM of our guild. Looking back now, I feel extremely fortunate to be part of that player base who played the original Vanilla WoW. I know all of the locations in this video, and it really made me feel good to go back in time here and relive these places through your video. I remember when we first went to Alcaz island and went into the prison area. We found King Varian Wrynn in there, and if I recall he was a yellow NPC back then. I think we went there with one of our rogues, which makes sense with the Defias Brotherhood quest chain. I still have the screenshots somewhere from 2005-2006 or whenever that was. This was a time when fantasy was a key part of WoW. Going slow, stopping and looking, theory crafting, exploring the world, imagining, being present. The game was way, way more about living the fantasy in conjunction with the dungeons, raids, pvp, farming, etc. This element of WoW no longer exists, nor has it for many years. It's much less about guilds and community, and that's not just due to the game's age, but intentional game design changes made by the company over years. Death by a thousand cuts. It brings sadness to my heart about the game I once loved so much. I don't know if I'll ever come back. If I do, it will be as a casual. Raiding - especially mythic raiding - had become so tedious, requiring immense energy, effort, and time as guild master and raid leader. Extreme boss tuning, hundreds of wipes, scripted CD usage, 10-15-minute fights, countless one-shot mechanics and raid-wiping mechanics, mandatory high parsing requirements, high player turnover, the influence of e-sports, the list goes on and on. I tip my hat to all players who are having a blast in Classic WoW and Season of Discovery. You're playing the best iterations of WoW (outside of original Vanilla) that create the opportunities for this community, guild, and fantasy again.

Well presented and informative video. Stuff like this is a good reminder why Vanilla was so epic, nowadays too many people focus on speedrunning to 60 and getting through the raid content. The original game design was rich in lore, stories and zone design. Something about the Night Elf statue in Azshara reminded me of how the game designers would use art design on a larger scale to make the game feel epic. Another good example is Dire Maul.

Hopefully SoD will make all of these areas accessible and relevant at some point as they're fully fleshed out and have a lot of potential for use. Back in Wrath, I was playing an undead in the Silverpine Forest standing at the gates of Gilneas and I just HAD to know what was on the other side. The map showed that there was land there even if there was no zone, and so I determined to go to the coast and swim around the mountains until I got there. While I was expecting to find just empty space, probably a big 2d plane of repeating grass textures or no textures at all extending out from the gate, it ended up being even more empty than that because there was no land at all. My little pointer on the map showed me standing well within what should have been the kingdom of Gilneas, but I was actually in the water hugging a sheer cliff because if I moved away even a little bit then the fatigue meter would appear. I ended up swimming the entire way and came back around the other side to meet my friend who saw me off. One of the weirder and more exciting out of bounds experiences in my gaming life. Also around the same time I was passing through Dun Morogh and I came across a tiny house built into the mountain inhabited by a bald priest named Gavin who had nothing of interest except that giant pinup of a woman in her underwear. Since that friend from before was named Gavin, I told him about it and he came running and we had a good laugh about it. I think there's a quest that takes you there now, but at the time it was just a really bizarre thing to wander into as a middle schooler. I also remember there were a few places where you were able to jump on the game geometry to make weird things happen. The most interesting to me was on some street in Stormwind if you climbed some decorative crates and barrels and jumped at a wall in just the right way then you would clip out of the world and fall into an open void that would end in a big square with a dirt texture. Looking up you could still see the city above you, but there was nothing more to do besides hearth back. Sometimes I'd take people there to prank them. There was also someplace inside the castle, I forget exactly but I think it was where you'd go if you wanted to group for battlegrounds, where if you knew what you were doing you could platform up on top of the objects until you were standing on the torches and chandeliers way above the room. Me and Gavin again would do that while waiting just to mess with other players who would come in and not know how we got there. I think there were other spots like that, but I only remember those two.

I used to have a route from lands end beach, over the gates of Uldum, across the southern mountains of Ungoro and to the back of Silithus where it was possible to drop down into unfinished AQ. What a mess. During TBC it was possible to summon people on flying mounts from Outland and they could fly around very select bits of that AQ map since it wouldn't register as a non flying zone, until you crossed into a bit that was and be dismounted. The AQ bits were about what you can see in the current retail client of the above ground city, but with a huge flat expanse in the southern part which was probably the unmodified terrain height as where it bordered into sculpted terrain it would be a very jagged connection to the surrounding area or not connected with a gap in the terrain, I don't recall exactly, it's been near 2 decades. On the southern shore of Silithus there was also a cave and I think the shore had a few trees, I think the kind you found in the Barrens if memory serves me right. I have vague memories of a tower, a Night Elf model I believe, on the northern shores of EPL, where it would connect to the Blood Elf lands later on. I scoured all the shores and maybe 90% of the mountain ranges back in the day, I've been in places never meant for Gnomish eyes and often brought friends along if I found a decent route. These are my fondest memories of WoW, a game I still play today. But some of them are fading out. But sometimes I get to make some new ones, I stood atop Atal'Dazar's main pyramid and Castle Revendreth before they patched in flying and even with flying I still like to go snooping around.

You can climb up the terrain behind the Alliance WSG queue and get on the mountains between zones, at least you could in actual vanilla. You could travel around the continent on the ridges. Also, I somehow got into the blood elf starting zone in vanilla as well, but it was just big open area. Only the ground was there, no water/trees/structures, aside from a few random elf looking buildings. You used to be able to glitch through a wall and get into Hyjal as well. We'd swim to the bottom of the well of eternity and summon people there then watch them drown.

Newman's Landing was the spawning point of new Alliance characters (excluding Night Elves) and undead before the intro played and they got teleported to their starting zones hence the name NEW MAN's Landing. My guess is it was used because of a technical limitation or something and I doubt it's still that way now with all the improvements WoW engine over the years. I do clearly remember sitting there and watching people spawn in for a split second back in the day and that there were old private servers that started you there because it was the default spawn point for Eastern Kingdoms.

The point of wow being an MMO is so long gone in retail, its more like an esport fest there. This feels fresh

Just leaving a comment since I've watched your earlier videos and you seem to have been tackling the issue of sound quality since you debuted. KZitem normalizes all audio to a more norma level, my assumption is probably 80dB, maybe 90dB?. If you right click on your videos and look at the "stats for nerds" diagnostics, you can see that KZitem is normalizing your audio by reducing it, in this video for instance, -13.1dB. That's a pretty sizeable reduction and because of how that normalization works, it ends up causing your video to sound quieter than others whose audio is less normalized or not at all. I would recommend doing some unlisted upload tests to see if it's your voice overs or the in-game captures of World of Warcraft that are causing this normalization reduction and reducing the audio in your editing software. In the end it'll lead to louder videos, but that can be adjusted by the viewer, with the bonus of there not being a huge discrepancy between your videos and other peoples' on the website. Hope the little tidbit helps, I'm unaware if anyone else has shared this with you previously. Videos are great and highly enjoyable. Will be great to see you expand into even longer format videos with your enthusiasm and interesting outlook on World of Warcraft as a whole.

Hey thanks for the advice - audio levels have definitely been something I've struggled with. I've tried following several recommended dB levels and it never quite comes out how I'd like it. I'm nearly finished with a new video, and I will be uploading several unlisted versions like you've suggested to make sure it works properly!

Pretty sure you can get drunk with Shatterspear trolls and see dancing ghosts join the party but I might mistake it for another troll camp I got drunk at !

CRYPT CONFIRMED FOR SOD BABY!!!!!! I hope it's like, a new 60 dungeon or something, and then actual Kara is added, since we have Atiesh to get there in vanilla already. Classic has so many amazing areas already, it's wild to think about it. Modern retail WOW actually feels like a UNIVERSE lol. love it or hate it, as a lot of areas are like, copy/pase with new colors/textures sadly but, there's still a lot of amazing areas especially up to Mists of Pandaria. Pandaland was special, not as good as the Outlands which was the first and the best expansion continent but, it's miles better than Northrend to me. Yay. Snow, snow, more snow, some cold areas where the snow melted, aaaand more snow. Draenor and since just felt copy/paste though. Although I will say, Shadowlands, for being kind of the beginning of the end of retail wow and chasing away millions of players (well, maybe the lawsuits did, and other games like FF14) actually had a few areas that were very aesthetically pleasing to be in, 3/4 of the main zones excluding Maldraxxus, ironically the biggest, were really nice looking. Dragonflight however, back to blah. REALLY, UNDERGROUND CAVERNS IN A FUCKING FLYING BASED EXPANSION? GOD BLIZZARD SUCKS.

When I was about 8 or 9, I discovered the crypt. I found a way to become my pet or something (I forget what its called lol) and I climbed down in there and walked around. Unless this is a different area, Im not sure, but this place feels familiar. Sometimes, it wouldn't work and I'd be sruck trying. But I remember doing it a lot and having fun 😅

My other favorite thing to do was to go into the green goop in this one area with the zombies (I'm not good with names, I played when I was like 7 mostly lol) and swim around and see "under the goop" I also liked to just go throughout stormwind and swim around. Once got attacked by a crocodile. That was wild. 😂
