Two greats: a low tenor and a high baritone show that their overtones are identical for the first time this gives me the shivers every time I hear these two sing this duet. It's ONE VOICE!

Words cannot describe how touched I was by this wonderful performance of a truly affecting duet. Domingo and Milnes both sing it beautifully and blend together just as well.

Fantastic! Milnes=my fav baritone. Domingo=my second fav tenor (after Mario Lanza). They really caress the melody. And that exquisite melody is one of my all-time favorites. This duo should get 10 stars in a 5-star rating system!

Ismon1 -How true. All three in top form in a heartbreaking duet. How sad they never sang these roles on stage. And James Levine was superb as well.

Isn't it amazing that they never sang the roles together at the Met - and indeed that Milnes never sang Marcello there at all? How good would it have been! At least we have this lovely moment. Thanks wansob for for sharing.

I've watched this clip a dozen times, and I just now noticed the typo in the subtitles, at 1:30. "My paintbrush is abomidable." It makes me giggle.

Yes I was thinking that too. I used to hear him every week introducing the Met Opera Radio Broadcast. That distinctive, seductive voice that always drew me into that week's performance. :)

OK, so they aren't Bjorling and Merrill, etc. AND Milnes was dealing with vocal cord problems, which he was trying to surmount with a softer onset -- which, in my judgment, hurt rather than helped his voice in the long run. But forget all that. These are two first-rate international opera singers. They were so then, and would be now. No tenors nor baritones of this quality today.
