ATS is such a perfectly executed game. Controls and TrackIR work well and easily, fairly intuitive to figure out all functions. The only trouble is that highway trucking gets a little boring after you master handling the truck. Snowrunner is such an imperfectly executed thing from the standpoint of a sim driver, NO TrackIR support, poor wheel/controls support, no manual gears, menus are a head-scratcher. Getting force feedback working was literally trial and error guesswork with NO instructions in the game. Yet the task of trying to deliver loads off-road is so compelling. One could wish that ATS had more off-road/“Death Roads”, or that the SnowRunner team would buy a clue and learn about making good functionality in a game from great examples like ATS. Or BeamNG, or Assetto Corsa.

To me that wide open space and vast horizons are something that I very much enjoy and is something that cannot be replicated here in Britain or continental Europe. Many other people also feel the same way. It's not that driving in a straight line is the main thing that appeals to use (but yes enjoying the scenery as you cruise is enjoyable), but all the factors of being especially in the American West combined. Running without GPS isn't as fun in VR since we have no way to see anything while driving. I'd like a means to 1) move the damn route advisor and 2) make manual directions notes for each area. Like, for VR, making the Route Advisor part of the laptop accessory and using that in the sleeper or passenger seat would be awesome. Same with manual notes. But the 9900i is THE BEST VR truck in my opinion. I also would like better in-city signage for the docks. We really can't use signs for those since nothing comes with named streets and actual addresses like the real world.

Whenever I come back to ETS/ATS, I'm disappointed to see that the AI traffic hasn't been fixed. The way the NPC cars drive is so unnatural. They drive too fast in the curves and seem to crawl on straights where a normal driver would pick up their speed a bit. They confuse me when they suddenly stop to let me turn left in front of them. In intersections / curves, the cars drive the exact same crooked line that the semi tractors take to account for their trailers. The traffic lights have very short phases and none are sensor controlled, so sometimes you end up waiting out a whole red phase in an empty intersection. The merging lanes are way too short and the roads in general sometimes have weird unneccessary kinks in them. The graphics are now very good, better than some gamers will ever experience them with their hardware, so I've been hoping (for years) that SCS will turn to improve the actual experience of flowing with traffic and interacting with other traffic. I would also like to get out of the cab and get delivery papers from the terminal office, put the fuel nozzle in my tank, do a walkaround check before the day, install/remove wheel chocks on a hill and be rated as a driver on these things.

having lived in Washington my whole life (and never playing ATS, which I may be buying now) they did a really good job at making a scale model of Washington, so much so I could partially recognize a lot of the key landmarks, and some of the smaller stuff, like the I90 on and off ramps in Ellensburg. the bridges of the Yakima river into the city of Yakima are accurate. Though I wish I82 was longer. also another note, talking about how the state is so different depending is pretty accurate. there's a transactional zone between wet forest and desert, which is pretty much what you drove south on the entire way to Yakima. drive I82, the whole interstate should capture it, if its accurate.

Absolute fan of SCS world design here, 2nd behind rockstar games tbh, issue is the map is not 100% reliable, there are many places were the companies are between cities, while the fan map makes the job and done a tremondous and awesome work there (landmarks and smalller villages are mentionned). the road network is complex and full of secondary routes, ports and industries who leads to smaller roads and all, and they were about to make a ground breaking change with Heart of russia dlc, but finally decided to postpone/cancel the DLC because of irl issues at those countries. The real deal would be a map who covers every city every road, and secondary road, with companies to make this as a real reginonal map 90s style. I've planned to do this for a long time but need time as usual.

It'll be 14 years of driving of a big truck in May 2023. 48 states, every mile of interstate, most of tye mountains and every major city except Miami. That's how I started in 2009. With a road atlas, a legal pad and a truck stop guide. GPS for trucks had just become a thing. They were just like car GPS except bigger and more expensive. I still have my Garmin 465T. They were good for setting a general.route and keeping an eye on your time. We got instructions for local shippers and receivers via Qualcomm. The new windows based lcd Qualcomm's were just coming out. We were using 4-6 line Qualcomm's when I started. Those were the ones Werner used in the beginning. I'm eventually going to get this and ETS when I build a gaming computer and I'll probably get one of the 10 speed shifters for my TH8A. I'm guessing the ball cap peripheral and a 3 monitor setup would be useful. There's a button box someone made for these truck simulators that has options for Jake brake and a cb. In the event you and friends want to run a convoy and chat for extra immersion. Although personally I'd be using a Bluetooth headset like I do in real life. Very cool game, the details are amazing. Looking forward to having a trucker party and doing stuff like this with friends. Cool video.

18:36 Truck nuts (?) 😁 19:40 I had that in ETS too... Driving from Hungary all the way to the Netherlands.. A trip I've done on my motorcycle a few times.. And I really was like: "Yeah that's exactly what it looks like" It's not correct correct. But they really do capture the essence of what it's like driving somewhere... Careful though... ETS was kinda a gateway drug for me.. I got my license and now drive trucks for events IRL (I'm a sound-tech, but I also haul the trailers in, and build light and video rigs).. I don't play much anymore.. spending 9, 10-ish hours on the road each day.. Driving a truck... It's somehow less appealing.. I might do some events at some point again.. Yeah I played in VR.. I can do days in VR.... Sitting down that is... Standing VR took me a while to get used to... And if I don't do it for a bit. I have to reacquire my VR-legs again.. It goes faster than the first time.. but after not doing standing VR for a bit, I shouldn't go for an hour or longer right away.. Because I will start to feel bad... After I got my VR-legs again I can play for an entire day. When I first got my VR I did play a lot of flight sims and racing sims. First week I did a 24h race in VR me doing all the stints... Went fine.. then I bought a shooter.. I didn't even last for 5 min... had to build up with 3 min stints and a bit longer each time but stop if I get sweaty and weak in the knees. While I could do barrel-rolls in a plane for extended periods of time, flip a car without any issues.. (sitting) right from the first time using VR.. I used to play really long Elite Dangerous stints in VR. Like 8- 10h at a time. Playing E/ATS in VR is awesome. If you like looking at the scenery it just adds a lot.. Also VR has a way better sense of scale compared to flat-screen. that was so obvious first time I played ED in VR.. On a flat screen I never realized how big the stations are. until VR. I spawned in a station and just sat there looking at it in complete awe.. while I had been playing ED before VR for a very long time. If 4H is the highest gear, isn't it an 8 gear? You don't count reverse gears. 16 gear gearbox is 16 forward and usually 2 reverse..

The one thing I would love from ATS is the introduction to big cities like Boston, New York City, Atlanta, LA, etc.. but to have the high population density. I'd love to get that stress of driving a big rig through a crowded city or cluster-f***ed highway or even having to make tight turns by there's barely any room to get by. Really stretching the boundaries.

The highways driving are the reason why I hate most of "western" European countries in ETS2. Literally the exact same shit for hundreds of kilometers. Easter Europe is a lot more interestings. Of course, those maps came in later DLCs so it makes sense. I really hope they will rework Germany and France at some point though. Although realistically they can't do much about the highways because they are boring even IRL.

Backing tip from a real trucker - Come up to your parking space from the side, once your truck tandems reach the space, turn 90deg right, (if possible go forward about 5-10 feet), then 90deg left. That should have the trailer pointed at an angle directly to your spot. That's called setting it up, and it's the most important part of backing up.

There is an option to turn off the GPS-display on the dashboard. You must assign a key first, it's not assigned by default. And no, I'm not talking about the GPS on the HUD. You can turn off both.

Latelly I've opted to drive a Mack R, a Freightliner FLB cabover and a Pete 359. This idea is a absolute crack to this kind of trucks. Gona do the same for sore.

Not gonna lie, I used to be a flatbed trucker and seeing this... it brings good memories and bad memories. But mostly good memories because I worked my ass off for my class A license, told CRST to go fuck themselves for trying to burn me when I received a better offer, and did flatbedding for another company. I worked for said "other company" for about 6-ish months and all I can say is that y'all are fuckin' crazy on the road. Ok, not all of you but a good handful of you lol.

ATS without GPS is easy, ETS2 on the other hand is kite the oposite. In Europe everything is so bunch up and so very close to one another that is very easy to miss a turn or take the 1st left on the city instead of the second, and realize only 1 hour (real time) later when you end up in Spain instead of Italy. And the thing is, it depends on how do you play without gps; If you set the rule to yourself that you can only look at the ingame-map (M) when you are at a stop with the truck parked, that's real and ok, but if you're poring down a hi-way and got in doubt about your next exit and just press M with the truck running and everything just because you know the game will pause to you; Well that's is BS.

Great video! As a person aged in their 50s I can well and truly remember the days of driving with a map or Map Book that had numbered tabs attached to the relevant pages to flick to once you drive off the edge of a page. Driving with the book sitting in your lap and actually hoping to get the red light so you can quickly refer to the map to make sure you are heading in the right direction. Before the drive you would of course spend some time in planning these books with the tabs and memorising key turns... I don't know whether you could call these the 'good ol days' as GPS has made this task so much easily but I do sort of feel that society has become much more reliant on technology which is good and bad. I have only got into Truck Simulator and have been getting my experience done with ETS but have also purchased ATS and very much looking forward to trying out the 'old way' of doing things for a fun, relaxed time. Subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos.

As a vet professional driver with more than two million miles behind me. I learned very earily in my carrier that there is a fast way, and a short way to get from one place to another and that they are not always the same. The algorithium envloved in the plotting of routes in this game is great to those that don't know any better. But to us old vets who are use to doing our own routing; The games routing sucks. Thus using driving a truck with a sleeper and using the console command abilities. In addition to plotting my own route's. Play the game much more realistically than most. The game has an on duty status of 14 hour's and rest periods of 10. Using my sleeper and the 14 hour's of on duty time. I simply pull over and rest when I get to the end of my 14 hours. And just as in real life, if one doesn't want to be an hour away and spend their ten hour's with their finger up their arse. I plot various POI's to view along the way, just as I did in real life. Though any and all loading and unloading in this game can be done 24/7/365, it's not like that in real life. Playing as realistic as possible, means not being able to pick up nor unload at various hour's. And haveing to spend my ten at a dock somewhere for 9 hours, sucks. So planning one route and spending those 9 where one desires is the professional way. Sure one may make a bit less money, and though just as in real life money is important. But in the end, It's a game, if one plays it, they will make money. The issue is, there are those that want the big fancy rigs yesterday and not willing to wait the time it would take, just as it takes in real life. With the exception of various realistic signs, and companies and other aka quality of life mods available. I have zero mods that expoit my ability to make more money any faster than I would in real life. Though the adition on only one mods makes the game not vanilla. Utilizing only quality of game playiing based on one's own real abilities as an OTR or local driver, is just excentuating the vanilla, not exploiting it.
