Juanita Sullivan Hey, thanks for the kind feedback :) no I am not in flight school just now since i still go to school but in halve a year i will write my application to some airlines. since my grades are good and I am fluid in english and german I do not think that I will have a huge problem with getting in. what i am more scarred of is the test that you must do to get your overall knowledge cheked. since i have no idea what is awaiting me. I flew alot since then and Have always tryed to get at least a litel sight into the cockpit. sadly since all the terror attacks that is not realy possible anymore and the safety restrictions have changed. i just came back from a flight from spain to germany where i did get to get a view into the cockpit and was able to ask some questions to the pilots since we had a 3 hrs delay cause one of the planes engines wasen´t working probably. there i learned alot and I am realy looking forward to the next year :)

May I suggest you go to a local flight school and get some books on flying. They can tell you exactly what manuals to read. You also might want to consider taking lessons from a local flight school as well. Talk to them and get a feel for it. Yes, it's going to be expensive, no way around that. Check out youtube on flying as well. There are some excellent videos. If I can help you with anything, contact me please.

I have flown for my entire life, never had any issues with it. However a couple years ago, I suddenly started feeling nervous, to the point of worrying about a flight months in advance and having anxiety attacks while waiting in the airport. The tunnel you go through when boarding the plane felt like a death march to me. I know that planes are the safest method of traveling, however this doesn't really help you if you have got a fear of flying as you will constantly ask yourself whether you might just end up like one of those unlucky people that actually died and where told the same thing. It is an irrational fear, and often it has nothing to do with flying itself but rather with the fear of falling out of the sky or being trapped with no way of escape or lack of control. What helped me a lot is getting informed about how planes actually work, how they stay up in the air, watching planes take of and land from the cockpit perspective, knowing that turbulences will not make a plane crash, telling yourself why you wanna go on that plane and what you are looking forward to (holidays, seeing family members again, etc.) and bring something to district yourself (I usually listen to some music while taking off, since that is the most stressful part for me and watch movies for the rest of the time). A couple of weeks ago, I have mastered a 7 hours overnight flight from New York to Frankfurt all by myself, which I am pretty proud of. Don't let your fear of flying hinder you from living your life!

As a pilot myself I don't have this fear but I truly feel for those who do. Everyone has a fear whether they admit it out loud or not. I love that this man is helping people with their fear. I recall a flight I was on as a passenger and the woman next to me was terrified. Her husband was mocking her and I felt like slapping him upside his face! I told the woman "I'm a pilot and would you like to know what is going on with the plane?" We were still boarding at the time. She was interested and so I informed her of every move that was being made in the cockpit and how certain parts of the plane worked. I also told her, flying was like soaring in the air like a bird. I went into great detail about the plane on purpose. I was hoping it would either bore her to distraction or totally ingulf her in interest. It ended up being the latter. Next thing she knew, we were airborne and she didn't even realize we had actually taxied out and took off. I purposely closed the shutter on the window. Shortly after that she was loving it! She and I exchanged contact info and remain friends to this day as that was well over 15 years ago. I remember at one point after she and I exchanged contact info, her now ex husband, (good, he was a frikken jerk) started putting her down for being scared in the first place. I just looked at him and told him, "I now have your wife's contact info which means I'm going to learn what your fear is and you don't want that!" He shut up and sat back.

Skelebros Fan, I would look for the local flight schools in your area, check each one against the BBB. Then go to one of them and go for a introductory flight. It will cost but not sure how much. You'll be able to go up in a small plane with a flight instructor and maybe even take the controls for a short time. So not only will you be able to get answers but fly that plane too. It will more than likely be a Cessna 152 or 172 which is what a lot of pilots train in. Hope that helps and let me know if you do and how much you loved it!

It happened with German Wings in 2015; I’ve had an anxiety attack thinking about it and a very kind flight attendant was with me and my mother when turbulence hit. I also told her it might be United 93 all over again but she knew 9/11 adds to my anxiety because me and 9/11 have developed a very close bond over the years. Yeah but if a ship starts to sink, which is extremely unlikely unless many, many, many individual isolated chambers have been breached, unless you've been deliberately torpedoed repeatedly then it will take a looooong time, plenty of time for rescue to arrive even if the ship itself didn't carry plenty of self righting lifeboats which they do. Cruises are so much less stressful than plane rides.

This video made me cry! I can relate so much. I didn't fly until I was 29 and I was terrified! I started by going to the airport a few times and every time, just seeing people with their rolly bags made me panic, hyperventilate, cry, etc. At 29 I had the opportunity to go on a paid trip to Hawaii (from New York). I couldn't turn down such a wonderful opportunity, so I faced my fear, despite the 11 hour flight! I found taking Klonopin and Bonine together to be really helpful. Now I fly pretty frequently and really enjoy it. I still have anxiety about traveling and being away from home, but I really look forward to the flying part of the trip. I focus on all the novel things that are so fun, the way the plane moves, the noises, etc. I approach them from a place of curiosity and learning rather than fear. I even took several flying lessons, and the more I learned about flying, the more I enjoyed it. But above all, my favorite part is seeing the world from way up high, it's just so beautiful.

I'm 17 and have flown countless times since I have lived all over the world. With family, and also completely alone. Mostly flights that are 12 hours and up. It wasn't until recently, I got a panic attack and it lasted the 12 hours I was on the flight. Ever since, I cannot fly without taking ativan. It's sad really, how one event can alter the entirety of your life. Before, anxiety in the sky was something I figured non frequent fliers experienced, but me being a more frequent flier than half the business men out there, at this young age, I have realised the phobia can happen to anyone. My heart goes out to anyone who has or still is experiencing this phobia. The thing is, on the regular plane setting, especially on overnights, it is cramped, maybe the douchebag in front of you has his seat down all the way, the air is warm, and nobody talks or seems to have a care in the world. I think we need to realise that the people around us, no matter what they show on the outside, are or have probably gone through the same thing at one time or another. If they haven't, and you're frightened of having a panic attack, or puking on board. It's okay if either or both of these things happen as they are the body's way of coping with things. It doesn't matter what the others think, especially in that sort of situation. You will most likely never see them again. Also a grand majority of them understand what you're going through as I said. So, I know it's easier said than done, but from my thousands of hours spent in the air, calm down a bit, it will be okay, and if you can't calm down, don't worry because the worry will end and is only temporary. You just need to face that awful feeling of nausea, heart palpitations, Depersonalization, and drowsiness or fatigue head on. You will be Okay. And I can always talk to people about flying as well. I'm no flight passenger whisperer with 35 years of experience in my pocket, but I know my stuff.

That's all it takes sometimes. I had a panic attack on a bus, and then it just went downhill from there. It turned into agoraphobia for several months. Luckily, I got on good medication and worked it out. Now, I am taking my first flight. Although I haven't had a panic attack in years, I am nervous this might be the trigger that reignites that panic. Luckily, my doctor gave me Ativan. I am hoping that like with most things, once I do it, I'll get over it pretty quick.

Recently however Ive been terrified flying in small planes (any narrow body including B737s or A320s), even though Ive had to make many trips (20 alone this year) in them. The fear of height also got me. It'll be fine. Just remember 1. When you're still at the gate, they turn the engines on (not really sure if that's what it is but it comes from there), which makes a low almost roaring noise, so no need to worry! 2. A few minutes after you take off, it'll feel like you fall a bit. That's just the plane levelling out, so don't freak out. 3. And lastly, if you're sat so you can see the wing, you might see a cloud like effect which has to do with air pressure (or something like that idk), which is harmless.

But weirdly enough i prefer flying at night, everyone is quiet and sleeping the lights are dim and its just more comforting. I still will fly thought because i love travelling :)

If you are comfortable at night for the reasons you said - buy foam earplugs like they use at a shooting range and a good sleep mask (usually are black and goes over you eyes to block out light). I use these when I have transcontinental flights, not out of fear of flying but so I can sleep shutting out noise and light. If it helps you relax - use it because for me I get pretty decent sleep using this combination. Good luck

It made me cry with the lady said "It's like the world opened up again." I have depersonalization. It makes things feel like they aren't real. It adds to the already high anxiety of being scared to fly. I used to love flying for my previous job... but one day I got on the plane and had to get off right before they closed the door. It was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life. I didn't want to cause a scene and annoy other passengers or hold anyone up so I just got off. I feel the same way. I feel so trapped. I want to do other things, I want to fly so badly and visit my family and other cities. I feel like I'm closed off. I can drive places, but as many have said here, it's actually more dangerous and just takes so long. I have a flight from Austin to Charlotte Sunday and really want to face my fear head-on so I can fly again. But I don't think people understand how scary flying is. When you're afraid of a spider for example, you can run away from the spider. But imagine holding a venomous spider in your hand for two hours. That is how flying is, at least for some people. You feel that extreme, scary adrenaline for the duration of your fight. It's so scary and so gut wrenching. I'll report back after my flight. I'm determined to get on the plane and travel to Charlotte. I'm also making a vlog of the flight that I'll post on my channel if anybody is interested.

I legit didn’t know I had a fear of flying until earlier today, weirdest part is I didn’t have anxiety about flying to Dallas, but flying back home my hands were extremely clammy and I genuinely fainted twice. Never fainted before in my life so I felt like I was actually dying and waking back up in a nightmare. It was absolutely terrible...I did the cheaters way and had a vodka sprite. The guy next to me could tell I was kinda freaking out and he was so nice and talked about all the flights he’s been on. It calmed me so much, just like this video did. Thanks for this one, a lot of people suffer in silence on this because we all have to get where we’re going one way or another. Peace and love:)

Sometimes when you are returning home on a flight and if you have anxiety about the flight but also feeling kinda down that you’re leaving a place at the end of a trip, that sometimes could be a reason of having more anxiety on a flight when it’s a return trip vs the beginning. Of course this condition differs in everyone but regardless if you have favorite distractions when flying, it certainly would be helpful in all sorts of ways.

I flew not too long ago and it got bad. I was sweating and panicking the whole time. I am not afraid of dying, I simply HATE how it feels for me in my head. The up and down feeling. I can feel every dip even if it's smooth, I just can't stand it. This is why I don't do elevators or roller-coasters. I hope one day I can get rid of this fear.

i never had fear of being on a plane, but just recently i was traveling back home in europe i had the scariest turbulance ever the cabin lights went off , the plane felt like it was going lower and lower and the seatbelt sign turned on, the worst part of it all was the fact that we were in the middle of the atlantic ocean . i sersouly said my prayers and put my head down and said this is out preparing to die. never will i go on a plane again.

No matter what your fears are, never be ashamed of them. Even if others don't share your anxieties, what you feel in the moment is real and not something easily managed without help. Telling someone to not be scared doesn't serve them. It's about being empathetic, sitting with them, and validating their feelings.

Planes are specifically built to withstand even the most severe turbulence, and pilots are trained to deal with it. You won't notice as a passenger, but pilots will often slow the plane slightly and may adjust the altitude to avoid turbulence. Most of the time, they'll just ride it out.

I have been flying on big planes since i was 4, last year i flew 6 times and i loved it, even making fun of my sister who was nervous. Last month i flew on a tiny Jet from Paris to Dublin, it had about 30 seats and I was terrified. I had 4 panic attacks and when I wasnt panicking i was laughing hysterically. The flight attendent had to calm me down and explain its all normal. I cant imagine what the other people on the flight were thinking. Since then I have constant nightmares about flying and this video made me anxious just because of the sounds of planes.....yeah i think i need one of these classes.

The only thing I fear about flying is the plane malfunctioning... because once you know the plane is going to fall, there's 0% chance in surviving... you literally have about a minute or so to say your goodbyes and think of everything/everyone you love.

Wrong, a plane can glide for 100 miles without engines. Your chances of surviving are actually quite high.
@fromeveryting29
5 жыл бұрын
... no, that's not how it works. If something malfunctions (which usually is something insignigant), but say an engine stops, or the wheels don't come out. The plane can still glide for miles. It can still land on flat ground or water. It doesn't fall dramatically. That can't happen. Planes land constantly in bad weather, strong winds, snow, ice. As long as the airport is open, experts have deemed it totally safe to fly. It they aren't 100% sure it is safe, they won't have planes taking off then. Up in the air there is nothing to crash into, and planes are built to GLIDE smoothy whatever happens to its thrust.
@cassiusgoulet3583

I suggest people with the fear of flying learn how planes actually functions, because I think that's kinda the real issue. People misconceived how things really work and that sometimes brings anxiety. if they learn throughly it will definitely eliminate their fear of flying.
