When it faded to black at the end I half expected it to say "Mike died three days after the recording of this film". Glad he's still alive.

Documentary is great but also glaring in its absence of Snares - despite ending on a Rossz Csillag Snares track. For the historians, its essential to revisit Printf which is an unbelievably good album. The official bio says Mu signed Snares after Greg Hates Car Culture, but Mu website used to say after Mike picked up a copy of Printf. So it gets weird since Mike tends to distance himself from the influence and singularity of Snares in defining Mu in the 2000s and beyond - plus breakcore in general in the post-2010 period. But whatever it is - and when history is written - its essential to remember Snares apart as originator of something complete, totally and originally other - and in its infancy, different to what came to be known as breakcore. In the lineage of UK hardcore / jungle it had travelled internationally and now echoed back in unexpected ways - and Printf came 1 year before Drukqs - with staples of Warp Records having moved in the direction in the late 90s - sometimes satirically. What sets Snares apart was pushing the tooling to an extremity - hyper-editing on trackers - with nascent aesthetics of Metalheadz / Ed Rush / Optical - and uncompromising in a lack of pretension - almost punk / anarcho ethos, true to spirit. Where we sit in the 2020s - with breakcore as established genre and microgenres - crucial to view Snares as an independent originator. A really exceptional musician taken by an energy and tooling of the time - who shouldn't be defined by extraneous developments.

Thank you for this, I somehow managed to not see this for 4 years - I’ve been buying most of the releases on Planet Mu since the labels inception. Needless to say for all of us who love uncompromising electronic music the world’s a much better place thanks to Paradinas and his circle. Others mentioned it already but it would indeed be great if this doc was much longer - especially with so many important artists omitted.

Not my favorite electronic music label but I do recognize its importance within the industry. It takes a lot of guts and effort to make the decisions Mike has made over the years to shape his label. He can be proud!

Not just Planet Mu specifically, but Hip Hop at the turn of the century leant so much on electronic music. I always thought that these guys should have found a way to make themselves a staple with the artists in that crowd. I still think that evolution with Hip Hop has only begun and that some smart people need to find a way to bridge the gap between these guys (electronic/IDM/acid w/e term encompasses it all) and the Hip Hop crowd. Well, really these guys can do anything technically, but there is so much money in Hip Hop. If I was a shotcaller, I would call up the major labels, get some of the artists to make 3 - 4 demo tapes stylistacally of the relavent genre and send them over and tell them every session you have with your arist you can have one of my guys in there for 10k a day or something. lol always thought that. Honestly, how much music today is leaning on England and the work of electronic musicians from England is sooo underrated, I have thought about making a documentary about it and doing A|B side by side evidence.

Haha the irony of that, how i didn't notice it! I'm guessing he will only sell so much, and about 75% of his fanbase just downloads his releases free online? Wich is a shame, that man deserves more recognition! He has earned his place between the greats like Afx, Pusher etc etc. I honestly believe Mu has done more boundary pushing then Warp the last decade

He got me into more artists than aphex and pusher did. cos aaron had abit more dynamic records. Plus, I got into Trackers when I found out he used them (Australian.. Didnt have internet alot of the time, I had to really look for scraps when I could). Once I tried trackers and saw how it was done, I went mental and realised how insane he was. But, twin an pusher, also made me mental when I found out how they used their gear for their music. But I agree, Aaron deserves more. Also, Otto von, he has a special place in my heart (I know he is very differnt to this video but artistry wise, hes similar, I believe).
