What I don't get is weren't they traveling down the grand canyon, if so how do they end up anywhere near the Statue of Liberty. And second if the statue was buried it''s facing the wrong way, the statue faces out towards water.
@filmmakerdanielclements
Жыл бұрын
I don't think they're traveling down "THE" grand canyon, but "A" canyon on a future earth. The film's supposed to be 700 years-ish in the future. God only knows how nuclear bombs and nature have changed the planet in that time. Rome doesn't look like it used to, and that's without nuclear war and with us maintaining/preserving it. But, I don't think the filmmakers thought that deeply about the reality of such a scenario; beyond just making their point that "this is post-apocalypse earth". In reality, evidence of our building structures would remain for at least 10,000 years post-civilization (the pyramids have no advanced metallurgy, yet they'e still standing). So then, where's the rest of Manhattan? If nukes levelled everything, why not lady liberty, too? Maybe there's more buildings if they kept walking? Maybe the statue fell in the harbour during the bombing, froze in ice during nuclear winter, then floated out to the north Atlantic, drifted across the ocean for a couple hundred years, then thawed on some far off shore? Who knows!
@BOBPortlandOr
Жыл бұрын
@@filmmakerdanielclements they traveled 2000 yrs into the future (see clock at beginning of POTA original). Geologic time scale is measured in millions of years not thousands of years and the life expectancy of Statue of Liberty is 2-300 years. Letchworth state park is the only known feature on the east coast that looks like the Grand Canyon problem is it doesn't drain into the Atlantic ocean. You are right it's not the grand canyon even though I think they were insinuating it. So I conclude the monkeys most likely lived in the Appalachians mountains and the forbidden zone was NYC and surrounding area. But hey is a movie where monkeys learn to talk English in 2000 years.
@filmmakerdanielclements
Жыл бұрын
@@BOBPortlandOr My bad. Don't know where I read 700 years in the future (might be one of the other POTA films?). And yeah, they probably just picked the canyon cause it looks awesome and fit the rocky feel of the rest of the film. I don't think they were trying to say something about location with it. Geological time scales are crazy; true. But, nuclear winter doesn't last very long, but could be anywhere from 25 years to a century for surface temperatures to return and start the thaw. Could it not freeze (thus preserve) the statue and float it along then? I dunno... grabbin' at straws here! Would any remnants of a city remain after 2000's years? Or would all signs of human's be buried by then? How are the pyramids still here (and in decent shape).

@@filmmakerdanielclements I started teaching Computing Science in schools (1982) and became a Deputy Head after only 12 year teaching and promoting IT. I was even taught by Tim Burnams Lee. Fed up with political correctness I went on to become an adult IT Trainer teaching coding, TCP/IP, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Server products and Routers. I was very pro technology, always stating IT would empower humans but about 10 years ago, it dawned on me what a PRAT I had been. I now deeply regret my involvement in bringing it in. In no way has it freed us up, being now 70 and comparing the quality, safety, efficiency, political leaders and trust are far worse than they were before IT came about. Now as your very pertinent ending to Planet of the Apes we now have, as never before billions of dollars worldwide conglomerates who control us and dictate their terms to governments usually by spoilt, neurotic and narcissist CEOs such as Bill Gates, who I met once and could tell he was all those things. Now we live in a very stressful world where nothing works properly, stone walling by companies, the now vile and unbelievable once taboo type porn that children watch, the ability to scam and steal people's money, a vehicle to promote once laughable ideologies i.e. Woke, incredibly brainwashed young people and now the real Pandora's Box of OpenAI - so I would say definitely technology is NOT freeing us but instead is creating as George Orwell's nightmare world of 1982.
@filmmakerdanielclements

@@wakeupuk3860 I think tech COULD be liberating. Perhaps we’re going through some growing pains. Tech allowed us to feed people faster than ever before. Tech can scale up factory lines to get wheel chairs to paraplegics, etc… Those are all good, freeing things. It seems to be more of a social media issue (you tube included) that prays on people’s dopamine and cortisol. Tech can liberate, as well as make us complacent. But, big-tech’s social media addiction efforts to maximize screen time and monopolize attention is really what’s screwing with peoples heads, imo. And you probably know more than anyone: Complex systems, such as in coding, just needs one jot or tittle out of place and the whole thing breaks and dominos.

1968, the year of years. Twin Towers started construction, 911 established as emergency #, Fentanyl approved, Coronavirus isolated, George W Bush graduates from Yale, Trump graduates from U. of Penn, and on and on.

it's oddly funny on how so many sci fi fans and die hard star trek fans never even noticed that the suspended animation units on the SS equris and the suspended animation units on the SS botany bay were exactly the same on each star ship

My husband isn't on either. Sadly I need it for my career since I'm a writer and I use it to find news stories. That said I only use Facebook. I got rid of Twitter, Instagram, and Linked In. But, good for you! I'm envious, in a good way. :)

@@BeYounique...Maryanne I also have to use instagram for business. It’s tough nowadays cause so many careers are only, it’s not like we can all just throw away our computers and live in the woods at this point. 😢

@@filmmakerdanielclements I know, right? I'm 59 and I miss the way my career was early on. Just a computer but no internet in the 1990s, yet I had my work published all over the world! Nowadays, it's all about money for everyone. People compete more than they create. I get random spammers in-boxing me, asking me if I'd like to "buy" You Tube subscribers. I declined. I'm not going to sell my soul and be a phony. When I die, it will be with integrity, knowing that people who enjoyed my work were real people. :)
