While I am using Premium, it doesn't seem to be a Premium only feature. As far as I can tell.

You're right, lose rocky climb, then throw in a few larger rocks or ruts in the wrong spot, equals trouble. A few time I have been amazed I actually made it up or down, other time I was getting exhausted and just lost it on mildly challenging tracks. So stay hydrated, regular rest stops and sometimes don't overthink a climb or descent, you may set yourself up for a fail. And always use wisdom rather than first aid. Good point on perceived climb angles, we often think we are doing a 25deg climb when its only 15. Good dissertation. Thanks for pointing out the new in Gaia. Haven't used it in a bit. Cheers 👍

Appreciate the "numbers" getting into an area doesn't mean that you can get out...areas of the Vic High Country are a perfect example...following a GPX file and researching the topography, doesn't tell you what has happened to the track or the conditions...going down may not always mean you can get back up...the joy of Adventure Riding

Yep, that's the point I make at the end of the video.

I think I need to suggest the gradient angles be added to the route profile of Viking GPS Editor. That is a handy little option. I also would like waypoints marked on the profile, as it helps work out distances.

@@MotoRidesAustralia I like it. Took a little bit to learn, but that is probably because I didn't RTFM. Once you learn to stack maps at different opacities (I generally use the topo and Bing aerial), add DEM layer for the route profile, it makes a nice base to utilise route finder. I guess it is just like most of them, but being open source, it is free and there is a support forum.

Spent many hours playing this game on the PC 😅. It can sometimes put too much anticipation into your mindset! When are you guys coming to the south coast? We have some good long hillclimb sections here that are good practice. We can show you some fun routes that are usually pretty empty. One of the climbs is almost 3kms long with lots of erosion mounds and rocky parts to keep it interesting.

I went past the top of it on its western end in Boundary FT thrn got stuck in the next saddle after the big hill climb in matbles bigger than cricket balls about a year ago. Turtle FT was overgrown and very steep looking. Got told later that the crossing in the gully was too high to cross for a long time.
