As my oldest is entering high school, I'm back here getting some info and wisdom from Andrea long after she's gone to heaven. Thankful for these videos. ❤

Great video... They can buy a homeschool record keeping set, which has all the record keeping forms so they don't have to buy packs of 50 of each form. And it's really cheap, I think like 5 or 6 bucks.

Andrea, I would like to see a review or just some insight to the ACE higher maths and sciences. I saw that there are videos (dvds) and lab videos. Im curious about them because I have 2 that are behind in their graduating. NONE of the Biology & Chemistry curricula I have purchased is explaining well enough. They either seem to be teaching college courses or just not enough info. I know you aren't there yet but having gone through it yourselves I thought you or Tom could do a review of it. 😭 Pleeeaaase?

my brother actually went to a private school that used this he heard andrea talking about paces and ace and privelieges he said are they talking about ace i said yeah. He was in special ed and way behind so to keep him from having to repeat eighth grade after repeating kindergarten and 4th my grandma put him in a private school where like you said its self paced. In fact the 2nd thru 6th grade is all in one room or was the schools been closed now and the 7th through 12th is in another room the kindergarten and 1st grade which they still have is in the daycare next door.

Can you share what you use for your kids literature Creative writing. I know I remember hearing a video where Andrea mentioned she did not use ACE because it was hard on kids back when she was in the school setting. Mine are having trouble adjusting as well. Reaching out for help please. Thank you for continuing to share her information.

We just add up hours of PE activities. You can purchase homeschool curriculum or use classes through a local rec center though if that makes you more comfortable. 😊

Question for Andrea. If you want to enroll a student in ACE. What is the document that you need to use to make the "transcript" that LCA requires of you. I know you have to fill out the enrollment document. You have to send a copy of your birth certificate, the permanent record and a Transcript of all the PACEs you've done since 1097. So, what does the "Transcript" document look like so I can send it was well

I was doing a research for a project at my school on different forms of schooling and programs people use, when I came across your video. I am a freshman in high school, so your oldest is probably my age. I was curious about your rules regarding books on topics such as Darwin, and rules you have regarding/if you have open television and Internet usage, if you have time and don't mind sharing?
@TheMillsFamilyVlog

Obviously you know we are Christian and our faith is absolutely central to our thinking. We encourage our children to know all about other ideas, even the ones we don't agree with. We love watching debates for that reason. We have a large personal library that covers a variety of authors, including Darwin. We try to be careful with sexual content, but we aren't particularly restrictive of violence. We do put filters on the internet, but we allow it's use until 10 pm on their tablets on school nights. It doesn't go off on the weekends.

Andrea Mills I've always felt maybe science (evolution) and religion have a relationship. I've always thought maybe a week in heaven is much longer for us so that's why there's evidence of dinosaurs (fossil fuels, fossils) and other sciences. Not trying to debate, just offer another view point

Does Thomas ever mention ideas about what he'd like to do after graduation? My granddaughter started high school this year and has talked about being an R.N. for years. She even got a skin suturing practice kit for her birthday!!! LOL and yech! It would mean college in her future.

@TheMillsFamilyVlog

I think you're taking offense unnecessarily. I personally hope my children aspire to a vocation over a college degree. The point of the "Vocational" diploma is because some students (who have learning delays or who are very behind) are not going to be able to complete the College Prep course. (Unless, I guess, they chose to continue on beyond normal graduation age.) If a child is 15 and still doing 5th grade or 6th grade work because of said learning delays or whatever other reason, there's no way they're going to finish a whole College Prep or even General course of study by the age of 18. Because they can't finish in the time allotted, it's assumed they won't be going on to college, but will rather choose to directly enter a vocation. Hence the name Vocational Diploma. It's not derogatory. It's logical. And as I said, I'm a big proponent of kids entering directly into a vocation without college. However, if they're planning to go to college, they need to do the courses to prepare for that.
@moopr
7 жыл бұрын
please listen to your wording in the video. You're basically saying that the vocational track exists for delayed learners, rather than it being an option for anyone that has the preference, including delayed learners. There's a difference between purpose and options or choice. I have nothing against vocational options. Do you get that? Also, I didn't say I was offended. It seems you took offense and went on the offensive rather than try to understand the question I raised. The question has to do with strong implications that may not be intentional.

This is actually extremely helpful for me. I am also a homeschooling mom to 8. I have several students working at grade level, but I have one that is going to be in 8th next year, but working at a 2nd through 5th grade level depending on the class. Your explanation of the graduation requirements is perfect!! And so incredibly helpful. And, I want you to know that your explanation was very clear. It did in no way imply antyhing negative. I would also assume that a student that is intending to go into a vocation would be able to graduate in one of the first two categories. I understand the third category to represent the students with special needs. Thank you! I have a million questions and will be watching as much as I can to organize and prepare for next year. I have been eclectic for years with a little Christian light, or ACE thrown in, and we all desperately need the structure provided by ACE as a complete plan.

What state are you in? Most state standards have been watered down. Ace has been around for over 40 years and is updating the paces constantly. They also give finishing test from the strictest state. Iowa. When done a student should be able to pass them.

Andrea, what about trigonometry`? It wasn't listed on the chart. Do you skip that and go to college math for 12th grade?Thanks.
@TheMillsFamilyVlog
7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why they have it listed that way; trigonometry is offered at the 12th grade level. Tom took trigonometry in high school, but I never did preferring to do Business Math which I feel has much more application for the average person. That's the direction I'd prefer for our own kids unless there was a real reason to do trigonometry.

I am a Christian Day School teacher...I myself graduated from an Ace school in early 80s...I have my ACE supervisors certificate...I have come to believe through personal experience that ACE is an inferior program to others such as Abeka...it sets up a "cheating " situation for children...perhaps it has changed over the years but I would not feel confident educating my kiddies with this curriculum.

I had to laugh a little when I read this question. One day my daughter was talking with a group of kids in her 4h club, someone mentioned another kid who lives in a neighboring town, and she happened to know him. The other kids were amazed. One asked her, "I thought you are homeschooled. How do you meet people?" Her reply, I'm homeschooled - that means I get to meet more people, not just the ones at (our local) public school.

I laughed at this question too - we have a hard time keeping up with all our friends! There doesn’t seem to be time to have everyone over and when we have gotten a lot of our friends together we had over 80 people at our house! My children have friends of all ages. One of my 15 year olds best buddies is a older gentleman at church and he often prefers to sit with him at our fellowship meals talking about hunting, fishing and all things boys love. Nobody is restricted to an “age groups” (when will you ever do that in real life....) and my olders are often happy to help moms with younger children if they see they need someone to distract a younger child or get them something... it’s really a beautiful thing. As far as college - a large portion of the homeschoolers we know have children doing dual credit either online or at a local community college. We have quite a few friends that graduate high school with an associates. Have you every heard of the “Brainy Bunch”? You should look them up... most of their children have started college at age 12. They do consulting to help you do it as well if your interested 😊
