Hi Just want to say thank you. I’ve just returned from 3 weeks in Japan and so much of what I learned on your channel came up trumps for me when finding my way around. The luggage forwarding tip especially was a godsend; so too the pocket Wi-Fi. I used ninja and it worked a dream. Thank you and I’ll continue watching your channel for more insights and tips. All the best and travel safe.

Hello, Thank you so much for your videos, I am thoroughly enjoying them and finding them very helpful. I am currently planning a Japan trip for my family, and we have two young children ages 5 and 3, I noticed that Shinkansen tickets are only for ages 6 and up. Do we need to do anything for our children? book any tickets in advance? or do they not show any documentation as they board the train? Thank you very much!
@KenshoQuest
8 ай бұрын
Hi. We also have a 5 year old and 3 year old. They could both ride for free, but in order for them to have a reserved seat in a reserved car, they would need a ticket. We usually buy a ticket for our 5 year old and let our 3 year old sit between us. So myself, 5 yr old, and 3 yr old share 2 seats. Or my youngest could sit on my lap. We’d rather not have 2 kids on our laps. In unreserved cars, it’s first come first serve. So maybe everyone in our family gets a seat, or maybe we all end up standing. We don’t show any age documentation when boarding. 🌸 Heidi

Hi. We used to stay mostly in Airbnb rentals, so we always chose a place with a washing machine. When we stay in hotels there is normally a shared laundry room with coin operated machines. I've even seen a couple hotels with washing machine in the guest room! That would be nice for mid way through a trip. This time I'm planning to do some hand washing of our wool shirts. 🌸 Heidi

Is it not cost effective to book hotels directly with the hotel in Japan ? I am just starting my planning. Travelling alone, first time in Japan, looking at end of September early October for approximately 3 weeks.

It's worth comparing the price offered directly by the hotels. We often find that Expedia has better deals, but not always.

Hello, thanks for sharing all your Japan travel tips. I've been watching as many of your videos as I can before our trip in May. I had one question regarding USJ's App for Timed Entry eTickets as I've heard conflicting answers. If I choose not to buy Express Passes, can I use the USJ App once I enter the park and then try to book Timed Entry tickets for rides like Mario Cart, Flying Dinosaur, Demon Slayer, Forbidden Journey, etc? From your videos, it sounds like I can do this but I've also heard this cannot be done and I need to buy Express Passes to get Timed Entry for rides/attractions. Thank you for your help!
@KenshoQuest
8 ай бұрын
Yes, once you are inside Universal Studios Japan, you can use the USJ app on your phone to schedule Attraction Timed Tickets for the rides that offer it (Mario Kart, etc). Depending upon how crowded it is that day, Attraction Timed Tickets may not be offered, for instance if it’s not very crowded. We always go straight to Mario Kart and are able to go right on. Here’s the video where I explain getting the Area and Attraction timed tickets: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Ipvy2qGkn6Cp6gsi=5TYX4EmoWl8kWgWU

@@KenshoQuest Thank you for your response. It seems that since this video for USJ was made over a year ago, some things have changed at the park ie. there is no need for an Area timed ticket to Harry Potter now and others have commented that the Timed Entry eTickets are not available once you get into the park so this has been quite confusing! We were hoping not to have to buy Express Passes but want to still be able to get on the rides we want without having to wait 2-4 hours! Demon Slayer was a 4 hour wait last week! 😞
@KenshoQuest

@@phebehum2866 I think it can vary from day to day depending upon how crowded the park is. Both times we went, Harry Potter wasn’t restricted and people could walk right in. If you want to make sure you get shorter lines, Express Pass probably is the way to go. Our goal each time was getting into SNW and getting on the rides in that area. Jep, December till early January to make use of the pre price increase JR Pass after an almost 4 year break of going to Japan thanks to the pandemic. 😅 Already did all the decisions on cities and towns to go to and perusing the hotel options. The only hotel I booked well in advance was the one for Kinosaki due to Ryokans being in short supply in winter there. Also got the Ghibli Park ticket and Suntory distillery ones already require advance purchase, and the second one also needing a lottery first. Personally for me, flight ticket booking is always the second step for my Japan trips after I decide around what time I go. Easier to plan out my trip once I have my annual leave booked in and my flight tickets and I know how many days I will actually be there. And some is dictated by when friends have time to meet up. I'm a solo traveller, so for me it's much easier to be flexible.

Wow 45 USD for 4 week insurance? Is that how much travel insurance costs for Americans? That's very pricey. My annual travel insurance is 55 euros. Enjoy the snpw festival. It's my favourite festival in Japan. Not sure if already went to the Hokkaido historic village, if not I can highly recommend it.

I’m happy with the current price of travel health insurance. It used to be based on a daily price, intended for short trips, and was way too expensive for long trips. @KenshoQuest I see. Over here in Europe, I'm used to the annual ones. You should be in for a nice show, fingers crossed, you get nice snow. When I went in 2020, they had to bring snow from outside of Sapporo, and the first day was no snow in Hakodate or Sapporo. Luckily, it started snowing then at night, and the whole week, it was snowing most of the time. Be careful when you walk around. :) I slipped a few times crossing the road. Even though I was wearing hiking boots.
