Great tips. I’ve got the Wy’east Howl 50k in July and the Cascade Super Ultra 50m in September. Looking forward to them and they’ll be my first ultras.

Just getting back into trail running from a hiatus....my favourite race to race and volunteer at is the beaver flat fifty in Saskatchewan landing provincial park. Beautiful location, great community, poutine, beer and a hidden gem in Canada, you should check it out :) thanks for sharing your tips!

Hey Allison, glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing that race I will definitely check it out. I love all the little gems we've found trailrunning. One of my favorites was in Yakima Washington. Skyline race

@@runitmj Thanks for the suggestion, I looked it up and looks like beautiful terrain and climate similar to our Saskatchewan one. A beauty for sure! Happy trails :)

I'm a year behind, but I've got high hopes for 2023. 2021 was my first year running marathons and ultras. I had fun and learned a lot, just focusing on finishing. My training was consistent, but very low mileage due to 60+ hour work weeks. 2022 I got cocky, assumed finishing was a given, barely trained, and had a crap year. (Surprise!!) 😆 This year, I'm working on succeeding, not just surviving. I've got the White Lakes 12 hour in May, a couple more 50ks, then topping off a second attempt at Jay Peak 50k (dropped at 22 miles along with half the field last time) or the Hamsterwheel 12 hour, revisiting my first ultra. I do it for fun, and find races every 6-8 weeks build my fitness throughout the racing season, since my limited training isn't enough to get me there. Can't wait to see your Western States race!

Great chat! U should have had a “get yourself a coffee” disclaimer. Old guy here running 52km in June in the Okanagan and then again 42km in Oct. My main goal is not to become a hermit between now and March. Really enjoy you two!

Haha I'll make sure to put a disclaimer in the next one thanks for the comment! Awesome! Do you have some specific races you going to do? Getting out now, especially in November is always the hardest.

Planning a 28k in early July, 25k in mid-September and a 50k early November (all races in Ontario). Currently on my recovery phase and will start building base January to April.
