You inspired me to plant tulip, daffodil, and hyacinth bulbs last year, and the joy it brought me this Spring (ESPECIALLY this Spring) when I saw those pops of color was just priceless. I would find myself checking on them multiple times a day to see which had opened up, and because I didn't want to cut them, I was always on my hands and knees just smelling the hyacinths constantly. Now I have to go find some more bulbs to plant!

Try Dahlias! Between Laura and Erin (the Impatient Gardener) you will learn a great deal. I have been gardening with my mom since I was a kid but that was in Mich. When they started popping up green I went crazy and ordered more tubers that I will just put straight into the ground (after some soil tilling) BUT I'm am super excited! BTW I'm in Tenn. I'm 40 and just got into gardening last year... I include my age only because I'm a late bloomer (haha, pun most def intended!) to the whole gardening experience. Your love and joy of this art is absolutely infectious. You talk about hopefully inspiring along the way and I can attest assuredly that you absolutely do just that. ♥️ I started with succulents last year because, well, I'm in Florida and am surprised humans and plants alike can survive in our heat in the summer. 🥵 Born and raised here myself but still, icky! This year I'm hoping to graduate to something a little more substantial... I'd love to turn my backyard into a grocery store for my little family. I don't even know if that's okay here, not only in Florida, but my house specifically in Florida because of the way it's situated. But I'm sure gonna try! Thanks for being amazing! I hope you're feeling as great as you look. I can hear your little lady is def growing as I can hear the difference in your breathing as she does. Errr, that sounded way creepy here than it did in my head... 🤭 But all mommas know what I mean. Take care hun! So thrilled I found your channel. 😊

I was thinking that since I knew they had to be in the cold for a few months, that this year I would not bury the pots, but from your video, I can see I do need to bury them. Maybe I can help. I am here in west Michigan zone 6a (5b in a bad year). We put up a Pelram 10x12 cold frame/greenhouse about 3 years ago. The best investment I’ve ever made. In the fall I drag into the greenhouse all my large pots, small pots, plastic etc. and I plant the tulips and daffodils in there. I use the smaller plastic pots as drop ins for larger planters that I can’t move. My technique is Pretty much exactly the way Laura does it. It works great! For years I tried putting bulbs in pots around the yard. I was never successful. If the squirrels didn’t get them, the excess moisture did. In the cold frame I was able to control the watering and the pests at the same time...game changer. I was able to maintain about a 10-15 degree bump on even the coldest nights. I did invest in a small greenhouse heater that I didn’t have to use until April when I brought my stuff that I had started indoors (pansy, viola, snapdragons, stock) outside to harden off. Hope this helps. Good luck!

is it me or do these people always seem to have thousands of pounds to throw at gardens

It's her full time job and business so it obviously necessitates spending their money. Your reacting and commenting gives her more money to throw into her plants.

I love watching you planting while the cat is also checking around. Hello Kitty, my fur here would like to get to know you.

And if you store them in a refrigerator for their cold period, "chilling", make ABSOLUTE SURE there is NO PRODUCE in the refrigerator. The ethylene that off-gasses from fruit, especially apples, will cause the bulb to NOT bloom.

I thought it's ethylene that fruits emit, no?

I chilled some in bottom drawer and bottom part of door. Only double varieties didn’t bloom. Was planning to put in freezer this year, since my freezer isn’t keeping ice cream hard, but apparently it’s not a good idea? I don’t get it....she lives in zone 5-6 and the inground bulbs come back. I wonder how cold the actual ground gets there.

@@rubyoro0 florists probably know the ideal temperature range for forcing bulbs and/or bulb growers. It's (I think) an interesting topic to explore.

For my fellow zone 9 gardeners (I’m 9a in Louisiana) amaryllis, daffodils, paperwhites, gladiolus, calla lilies, crocosmia, oriental lillies, and agapanthus are all reliable spring bloomers and perennials (agapanthus blooming off and on throughout the summer as well). I have tried alliums which grow leaves every year but never bloom. Tulips will bloom weak some years without the refrigerator method, but some years they don’t bloom at all; they never are perennial either. Some iris cultivars, especially the smaller growing spring blooming varieties struggled in my garden for a few years before dying. Our native Louisiana iris are much more suited for our climate. I have never tried hyacinths, crocus, and fritillaria.

I now want to start the planting process as well. I'm in zone 6A so I should be OK to put them on the shed. I want to plant to small-medium containers with tulips. I would be delighted to see them grow next year!

I live in zone 9b in California. I plant spring bulbs and corms: tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and crocus in November, even as late as December and they have always bloomed for me. I never dig them back up to chill for next year. They have come back year after year. The crocus are the only ones that give me trouble. Daffodils are the strongest. I don't like doing extra work if I don't have to. So if you're in the same zone as me do a little experiment and see if you have the same luck I do. Happy planting all.

I just watched a video about a beautiful and big bulb display. A neat trick they did was to plant in layers with the late bloomers on the bottom, early bloomers in the middle and crocus on top. I thought you might like the idea.

I wish we could see what they look like in the spring! I realize she probably covered that in a later podcast but it would be nice to add the end result here, too. I just love watching these podcasts
