Planting a hardy water lily or perennial water lily is very different than planting a tropical water lily. In America most people plant the waterlily incorrectly. Jennings takes a look at how to position the plant properly when planting and what the soil matrix or loam should consist of for blooms most every day on your water lily.
In this video we talk about the proper method which few people use in the USA. Commonly folks pile tons on stones or lava rock around the plant and some don't even incorporate loam soil which the plants need.
Hardy water lilies require sunlight in order to flower.
They require a wide shallow container with heavy loam soil.
These plants overwinter easily under the ice formation in most all of the USA.
Most Hardy waterlilies do not love extreme heat and will go dormant in such conditions. Some exceptions for the deep south are Mankala Ubol, Laydekeri Fulgens, Miss Siam, Cynthia Ann, Perrys Baby Red, Arc-En-Ciel, and Colorado.
