I live in North Central Florida and grow my bananas under a live oak tree canopy. This is to protect them from wind and frost in the winter. I get lots of bananas. They just get dappled sun. Don’t let anyone tell you bananas will not fruit without full sun.

My icecream banana i got from you and planted 1 year ago this week made it through the winter, the trunk alone is 8 feet tall. Hopefully it or its pup will produce bananas this summer!

Damn.. How do I find someone with this kind of knowledge to help me build my yard??? Lol. Most AZ landscapers I’ve called didn’t know you could grow anything outside of aloe here! 🙄😆🤗 Want to make sure if I’m spending 20k on my backyard, that I’m creating a wonderful environment for the kinds of plants I want to have.

Great info thanks, what are your thoughts on breaking up the root ball a bit? I tent to loosen the roots if they are circled in the pot. Thanks

I imagine the castor plant is to shade the banana from western sun/wind? Any other potential super fast growing candidates that can handle even more heat? Kuwait is a bit hotter than your lovely area (both summers and winters) although castor plants do grow here quite well.

@americanwillow Based on his videos I feel he over-waters his plants. Water has to be extremely cheap and abundant to water as much as he does.

@americanwillow Yeah I think that's it but I feel like he supplements from other sources cause flood irrigation only occurs a few times per month. I guess it's cost effective.
