Do you water them often throughout the year?
@GworldJoe
8 жыл бұрын
+heghineh They won't need any water from the time they are planted until they start showing their leaf and the beginnings of the flower in the spring. Give them a good drink once or twice a week from this time depending on their position in the sun to keep them happy and the leaf and flower from becoming dry and shrivelled and not performing at their best. After the bulbs have gone over and past their best, I will usually pull them for compost fodder and maybe plant the pot with some summer interest until re-planting new bulbs in the autumn. If you want to keep the bulbs in the ground and hope them to flower again the following year, you can cut the flower stems but importantly you must leave the foliage to die down naturally, this is ugly and one reason I take them out when finished, you won't need to water them during this dying back period until the next spring.

wow! Love videos that show the process and then the actual result. Nice peaceful video too. I bought bulbs from costco about 3 weeks ago and they're still in my garage here in Pennsylvania. I plan to plant them in a pot as our soil in the yard is hard to dig. Is now (october) the right time to plant in the pot? or should I wait till it is colder and then put the pot in the garage? Should I cover the pot? Appreciate your advice

I can only answer living in the uk and not Pennsylvania. It’s important not to plant them too early or they could be at risk of rotting in the ground if the climate is too mild/warm. I don’t know the climate or seasons of Pennsylvania but here in the uk and more specifically the south, I’m not planting bulbs yet as it’s just not cold enough. I’m often planting tulips and alliums just before and sometimes after Xmas and they all always fine. Tulip bulbs love the cold so you shouldn’t have to worry about being too precious or covering them. Keep them in a cool/cold, dry area out of the sun until planting. Don’t leave the pot in the garage, the bulbs (and soil) will need the warmth of the sun, some water(rain), air etc etc to get the best out of them.

Yes … always .. and I put crockery or and grit in the bottom. I also add bonemeal and perlite and bulb starting granules to my compost .
