This looks awesome! I would never mess with high voltage, but i will mess with dangerous chemicals haha

Thanks! Both are fun (well, I guess anything dangerous is)!

very nice circuit ! frequency range is very stable too no high pitch ringing or whining and good quality sound =D what music device were you using for input signal ? i have yet to try these IC's iv'e done a lot of work just with the trusty 555 but will switch over to the TL494 when i have the time .. oh were both the IGBT's used in the video or just one ? cheers :-)

Thanks! I was using my desktop computer for input signal. I strongly recommend the TL494 IC for HV power supplies, as it's much easier to independently set frequency and duty cycle etc. I was using both IGBTs in the video (in a push-pull configuration). Also the final version of this device will be finished in a few days.

oh wow only the desktop for input signal ! so that means that no additional amplifier is needed to boost the signal, impressive =D yes iv'e heard and seen many good things about the IC i have some as well but have been working on music and sound projects i will get the circuit together soon though .. ah ok push -pull do the IGBT's get warm at all or they happy .. i finished a complete 555 plasma speaker with mods a while back it still needs a amplifier for smaller music devises but it can run all day on a 12v 4A input check it out if your interested .. look forward to your finished project ! =D

dirkk82 yep, only the desktop! but this circuit has a big problem, the duty cycle can get "over 100%" in single ended mode with too large audio input signal amplitude, possibly damaging something, this will be fixed in the next version. The IGBTs got very hot, IRFP250N MOSFETs stay much cooler though, probably thanks to lower voltage drop. I will definitely take a look at your 555 plasma speaker. Thanks for the positive comments!

oh i figured that it could reach 100% duty cycle hmm tell you what i really raise the input audio signal on my 555 plasma speaker and it does fine, i use a boombox and the volume is on max ! it could those IGBT's have a high internal resistance, i also use IRFP250'S or 260's and for most circuits a very small value resistor or none at all are used for the gate resistor .. always happy to leave comments =D

dirkk82 yep, the 555 plasma speaker circuit is nice, but I like the ability to adjust duty cycle and frequency independently with the TL494 chip. Sadly IGBTs have around 1.5-2V voltage drop almost independent of the current, so they aren't so good for low voltage stuff :( I usually use a very small gate resistor too, 10-68 ohms usually, 27 ohm in this circuit

ferencproject Kolik chceš za tu bednu, musi mji mít. Ten PC jsem měl v dětství a pak se vyhodil a á se už asi rok snažim dát dohromady přesnou kopii, už mám desku, cpu, ram a zvukovku. Kolik za ní chceš? Nebo nějaký PC? Pentium 4?
