To determine the volume of a object fill a container with water then submerge the object in it and see how much the water rises. You have two way to figure out how much volume that is: 1) If the walls of the container are vertical than you can measure the how much the height of the water changed and multiply that times the area of the opening (like you showed for figuring the mold container volume. 2) You can draw a line for where to water rose to and remove the object then add water until it reaches the line. The volume of water you added is the volume of the object.

Hello, I have benefited a lot from your mold making video, thank you so much. I have a problem. All the people who teach mold making are always teaching how to make molds for clay materials. No one shows how to make molds to make hollow concrete materials. For example, one centimeter wall thickness, hollow inside, open mouth and closed bottom. Can you make a video showing how to make a concrete vase, pot or any container mold?

I am interested in making cement molds. I saw that they are made out silicon material, you know the one they use for baking silicon molds. They can be purchased as ready molds or you can mix silicone mixture to make your own molds. I tried to use gypsum mold for cement, but it was a disaster because cement (liquid) acts differently than clay (liquid). Clay can get off the plaster easy but cement will get glued to plaster mold.

Hi, Halil, the mould your are talking about would have to be rotated while curing to achieve that. Very advanced way of casting. And you need a silicon skin mould with hard case.

Hi @@Cuckoo23, thank you very much for your courtesy to reply. I know how to make a standard silicone mold. I don't know how to apply two-piece stays to hollow objects as clay artists do. And no one makes silicone molds for hollow objects. Thank you again. I send greetings from Turkey, love, respect, big hugs, good night.

@@halilbalaban1056 i think you just fill the inside of the container. I have seen the inside stuffed with paper or rocks and then topped off with clay or silicon. That prevents the slip from filling the inside. Once finished making the mold, you can remove the filler material. I am planning on making a set of coffee mugs. Thanks

Foam sticks to plaster, so do not try to cast a foam object in a plaster mold directly. Paint layers of latex into the mold first. Also, use something like Ultracal 30 or Hydrocal plaster for non-clay casting.
