@@felicityc no it would not have don't make up shit. we have plenty of examples of armour and none except the tournament and ceremonial sets are heavy. fact is if the armour were too heavy to have enough mobility to fight effectively then it would not be used. it also does not need to be too heavy to be more than effective pre firearms. or it would simply be made thinner. one reason for sets with less coverage and eventually not using armour outside of niches is that it needs to be thicker and thicker to deflect constantly improving firearms. so people in the modern era probably related their likely firsthand experience of that. or it's just entertainment media fictions that inform most people's understanding.

@@easyalpha1 A knight in full plate knows his weak points, his weak points are more protected directly and indirectly than an unarmoured man and will protect his weak points with more armoured body parts when needed Those weak points are in hard to hit east to protect places So while the unarmoured man can only hit the knight in a few hard to hit places he can be hit anywhere And this isn’t a fantasy game where armour makes you move like a turtle every culture with access to armour thought the trade off was worth it, and if you’ve seen someone move in armour like this video you’d realise the difference in agility doesn’t really mean much. There really isn’t much of a difference As for vision and breathing, the visor can be lifted, which was done a lot on foot English knights of the 15th century often didn’t west visors as they mostly fought on foot Also that point on the mongols just isn’t true The mongols never fought knights in full plate, they invaded eastern Europe durning the mid 13th century and late 13th century BEFORE plate armour was even invented Also this was in Eastern Europe, 13th century Poland didn’t have many knights, 13th century Hungary had lighter equipped knights than average, along with lots of horse archers And Russians didn’t have classic knights they had their own thing The Mongol nobility and richer soldiers, their shock cavalry and heavy horse archers were better armoured than the knights they fought So that argument falls flat, the Mongols won in the first invasion because of their unity, tactics and discipline The second invasion they got battered by the Hungarians and poles who decided they needed more knights who were more heavily armoured Knights of the mid 13th century were mainly just wearing chainmail by the end of it they added a coat of plates on their chest A mongol in Eastern Europe would be head to toe in lamellar with overlapping sheets covering the chest, crotch and throat, sometimes with a mail supplements in gaps The mongols not wearing armour is a myth There is a reason the nobility of cultures form the English to the Japanese to the mongols to the Turks to the Chinese wore as much armour as they needed, it’s because it worked Also as an added full plate is usually lighter for the protection it offers compared to scale or lamellar

I already knew how mobile someone can be in armor. But this made me ask does medieval helmets stay where your head is looking? If not is it universal to all helmets or is only certain helmets have this problem. To make my question more clear. When you are showcasing the fighting ability with the longsword. I noticed that the slits of the helmet is not facing the camera. Is this because you didn’t move your head or because the helmet simply moves to wear your body is pointed?

I cannot turn my helmet. It is a closed sallet, so the bevor is actually permanently attached to the sallet. That, in turn, is secured to my breastplate. It's a trade off of security for mobility. Some helmets can turn, others cannot. Depends on what your priorities are.

@Gunanter
8 күн бұрын
I mean, you surely can, maybe shoulder armor would interfere with the process of holding it out and pulling the string, but that generally depends on the kind of shoulder armor. the reason archers didn't stock in full plate is likely due to needing the vision to see the battle-field to see, and most units weren't exactly noblemen to become knights, it also was generally unnecessary because... well, you're in the back line, it's like trying to make a fully geared soldier that's made for frontline combat to be a sniper

Richer English longbowmen are often depicted in a lot of armour however they never wear pouldrons, gauntlets or much leg armour (though I imagine the leg armour is more convince over it getting in the way) They also wear helmets that are more open compared to other commoner infantry so they can draw properly without the sides of the helmet getting in the way It depends on the archer/ archer company and the situation Mongols had heavy horse archers which during the 13th century wore heavier armour than the knights of the time Heavily armoured archers and crossbow men show up all over the world from England to Japan However usually they were skirmishing and quite poor so usually not well armoured

Most of the deaths at Agincort were French knights being shot in the fave with raised visors because they raised them due to exhaustion when transversing through the mud.
