If you're not operating near water, it's not nearly as much of a concern, but if it's even a slight risk you need to have quick exit capabilities. The good news is that many non-QD carriers can be easily and relatively affordably upgraded to quick side release. I performed this $60 upgrade on my AR500 Testudo Lite that I'm running with buoyancy-neutral polyethylene plates (already had QD shoulders). To be fair, with the plates I'm using, I probably COULD swim with it for short distances. It'd only really be the magazines weighing me down.

@dardarlizard
Жыл бұрын
BDUs do not make you "heavier" in water, that's nonsense. The fabric has buoyancy and can be used as a floatation device by blowing air into the blouse and you can take your pants off and fill them with air to float as well. Yes, the fabric will sink on its own and has some weight but it is negligible. The uniform like other long sleeves clothing causes drag in the water and requires more physical effort to tred or swim, it is not a weight issue. Once you get comfortable wearing boots and fatigues while swimming, it's not so bad.
@berryreading4809
Жыл бұрын
I dunno I always had my damn pockets fill with water especially in river current, and most boots make your kicks slower and feel unnatural... although that's classic button BDU's with regular pockets... Probably better in something like crye or a similar style pant that wouldn't catch water if halfway closed decently... But familiarity and adrenaline are a hell of solution to most problems 😉👍
@dardarlizard
Жыл бұрын
@@berryreading4809 that's why I said the BDUs create drag and cause fatigue(harder to swim). If you are submerged in water, the water in your clothes pretty much neutrally buoyant since some prick can come along and argue very minor changes in water via temperature...

In Marine boot camp, the hardest thing I ever did was have to pass swim qual (Level 2) where you have to swim (can't remember distance) and tread water (can't remember time, I think 10 min) while wearing all your gear (uniform, boots, rifle, Interceptor flak jacket, Kevlar helmet). You weren't allowed to use your uniform as a flotation, either. First attempt I went under and had to be rescued. [Successfully] Passed [the qualification] on the second attempt. (Edited due to ambiguity in language.) Train hard. _______ Edit for even MORE clarification because autists can't seem to comprehend our written language.: In 2002, Marine Corps swim qual was divided into 4 basic levels, starting at 4 and advancing down to 1, not including advanced swim levels such as the Combat Swimmer level. As I mentioned, I initially failed Level 2, which was the second most advanced available, the highest level available to me given my MOS, and was attempted after passing levels 4 and 3. If you make a disparaging remark, regarding my inability to swim, demonstrates your ignorance in how Marine Corps swim qual was implemented. Level 2 is not entry-level, was conducted after completing two other swim qual levels, which broke many recruits, and had I not passed I would have still graduated as the minimum was Level 4, which I had not only done but I also competed Level 3. Remember, it's more than acceptable to be ignorant and ask questions, encouraged even, but it's unacceptable to remain wilfully ignorant and argue from the position of said ignorance. Yut.

Plates are probably ceramic lvl 4 plates. Some of the newer high density polymer plates float, making this slightly less serious issue. The helmets are usually less dense than plates so floating isn’t unexpected.
