Interesting review. This model is on my list of "want to try" but the price point makes me nervous. Reviews like yours help me experience these pens vicariously.

I just ordered a 3776 with an adaptor that lets you use international type converters like the Diplomat converters

Excellent review. I have to be honest though, I really don't see an advantage in buying this pen over a Platinum 3776 Century. The 14k nib on the 3776 is springier. And you lose that excellent sealing system that the 3776 has. The President looks nice, but a more expensive 3776 without the 3776's main benefit.

I have both. The President is a more elegant looking and well made pen, it’s heavier and feels like it’s made out of a better quality material….however, give me the nib on the 3776 any day! I don’t notice a difference in springiness or softness, but the nib on the 3776 is a touch smoother and just feels nicer to write with. And, with a little searching, you can still find the 3776 in the $100 range….whereas the lowest price I’ve seen for the President is twice that much.

I had only one pen purchase planned for this summer. But, I was recently talked into buying one of these with a broad cursive italic nib. I came here hoping to be talked out of it, but you're no help! So, it should be here some time next week.

The President to me looks a lot more like the Sailor 1911.

I really enjoyed this pen while I had it. Unfortunately the feed broke in half for some unknown reason. I got a refund since I bought it from a respectable retailer and it was a manufacturing defect but been hesitant to pick up another Platinum ever since.

Ouch! I have had good experiences with Platinums. Down the line it might be worth while to give them another shot.

+Figboot on Pens Everyone seems to have good experience with them. Maybe I'll go for the 3776 eventually. I'm enjoying your videos by the way.

Atelier Novotny oh wow that's terrifying. I'm curious though, how did you like the pen while it was still whole and functional?

Interesting reivew, thank you. By the way, it rather looks like you do your Capital P and S in a Runic style; which I found quite amusing. (with respect)

Hi, how many turns does it take to unscrew the cap please? What sometimes puts me off Japanese pens is that it takes almost two turns to unscrew the cap, which is not great for intermittent nite taking.

Great review. Which pen in your opinion is the best 'writer', a pen that you can use to write extensively ?

Could you elaborate a little bit about why do you think this pen is not copying from Montblanc 149?

This is a topic that has been debated for quite some time. Not just about this pen. There is a very fine line between a product that is a "ripoff" of another, and one which is heavily influenced by one. It's an opinion that's highly subjective. What I feel might cross the line might not cross the line you set. For this specific pen, it looks very similar to the 146 (I think you meant to say that...the 149 is a larger pen that doesn't bear as much resemblance). On the surface they look similar, but it's a look you can find across many pens. There are enough differences in the weight, nib and writing experience in my opinion, that I don't consider it to be a ripoff. Very similar, yes...ripoff, no. But like I said, it's subjective...others might feel different. There are other pens that I feel have crossed that line and are ripoffs...and I try to shy away from those.

Actually, Sailor is the "smallest" of the three Japanese pen companies.
