How do the relative sizes of protons, neutrons and electrons compare?
The atomic mass unit is defined as 1/12th the mass of a Carbon-12 atom. This works out that the mass of a proton or neutron is about 1 amu. The exact mass changes as the protons/neutrons bind in different nuclei. So the proton in a H atom has a different mass than the proton in a neon atom.
Proton - about 1 amu
Neutron - about 1 amu
Electron - about 0.005 amu
