Welcome to another edition of Play Smart Paintball brought to you by PB Swag Bag.
This is a two man operational drill. The goal of the drill is to move your players to specified bunkers (in this case the snake side) while working together. Communication is the key focus, while the main objective is to work together to move down the field.
To execute the objective, each player must complete a set of tasks in order to move on to the next part of the drill in order to move down the field. It is important to take note that I have eliminated the distraction of other players on the field. These types of variables take away from the overall goal and tend to add an unwanted distraction to the drill. Here, we are starting off with a very simplified game with some more complex tasks laid out within the drill. This may be confusing at first, but as soon as the players execute it properly a few times, this will be an easy flow.
If your team finds this easy after a few tries and everyone can execute each task from each of the positions, then start to add in more variables (targets) to the drill to make things more complex. The more targets you add into the sequence will then make it more difficult and create more chances to work on the communication chain between the two players. I always suggest to start simple with one target and always work on teaming up on that center target before moving to the next spot. Remember, this is neither a drill on accuracy nor is it about shooting as much paint as possible. This is not a race. This drill is all about working together in a small group.
As soon as you are comfortable here, maybe try putting a teammate down on the other side in the back center and really start making things more difficult.
ALSO PLEASE comment on the PB SWAG BAG social media pages on what kind of drills or knowledge you would like me to drop in the next episode!
