I'm curious... Which pickups do you have in your Schecter NJ?

Just the stock pickups (whatever they are)

Thanks a lot! How would you learn this? Do you have specific exercises?

I would start by getting familiar with the first diagram & practise playing it in different keys by playing along with jam tracks. Then I would do the same with the second shape. Once comfortable with both, I would practise linking them together using the method I outlined in this video. Hope that helps

Awesome info, thanks! Now that we know how to move around the fretboard, are there any rules we can follow to create a nice-sounding improvisation? I guess it's called 'music theory' :), but maybe something simple and effective, like this fretboard navigation.

hi m8, great video and info ! appreciate it ! ... one question about all your guitars if you dont mind ; have you experienced some kind change of neckshape when the instrument is leaning for years in the rack ? btw .. i did not remember very well the fretboard few years ago .. i solved it by playing for a few month in perfect 4th tuning ... after that it felt like i onlyhave to think about the b and e string ...veryinteresting was also that my guitarplaying witht he perfect 4ths turned into some kind of "neo- classic" direction ... back since a while to the standard tuning and it feels like better than ever again ..

Thanks for watching. And no I can't say that I have ever noticed the rack affecting my guitar necks. Sounds like a journey!

Diagonal, or linear, pentatonics has been a popular topic of videos. The problem to me is that most of the patterns they present end at the E of the high e string at 12 as in your top diagram. It's good that you presented a way to extend the pattern. Before this I printed a page of the scale and hand-drew a way to extend it, kind of similar to what you did but I like yours better.

Hey Joe! Thank you so much for this amazing content. This approach has helped me heaps with seeing the fretboard in a different way, less scaly and more fluidly. I assume this map would work better over a minor chord/progression, am I right? Also, if you feel inspired, maybe you could do something similar and use your amazing teaching style to talk a little more about seven chords and maybe some blues/jazz fusion? I would love to hear your ideas on this. Thank you again! Keep up with the good work!

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, this will work in a minor chord progression. I've actually already made a couple of videos on 7th chords you might find helpful : kzitem.info/news/bejne/pqaMtZqKj2p3aqg kzitem.info/news/bejne/lqeg0G2JfHZieGU

Thanks man. One of my favourite things about teaching is constantly going over fundamentals & looking at them from different angles, massively improving my own playing & understanding.

Great lesson! I really like how you're combining 2 & 3 notes per string with the pentatonic boxes. Any chance you could do another video with the Major pentatonic scale in the same fashion? Combining the two would be a really helpful way to visualize the fretboard. Thanks!
