I'm definitely the storyteller. But in my group we have a power gamer, the rules lawyer, and the instigator. We do have one who attempts to meta game (not knowing the module, but knowing the monster manual really well), but all our DM has to say is something like, "Your character wouldn't know to use holy water on a flameskull..." and he quickly concedes.

I don't know what's up with flaming skulls specifically (I only know how they work in ICRPG), but... Don't D&D PC know to use holy water against undead? It sounds like a pretty obvious thing to do

I never even so much as cracked the cover on a 4e book, so I missed that list of player types. Of the types from the original list, I probably manifest traits from all of them except the power-gamer, from time to time. Nice work with the sidekick, with the little animations and all. If you ever wanted to hang a TTRPG lantern on it, then you could these episodes the "Wry Phials." Cheers!

Thank you for taking time to go over this. I didn't touch 4th Ed but played and DM'd every other edition. As you were going over the types of players I could easily ID each of my players by these standards. I normally have 4 or 5 players in my groups and not all of these get covered but like you said some players have more than one of these traits.

You are so well spoken! I feel like you could do wonders in terms of being a TTRPG Editor for better summarizing game mechanics & concepts in a way that makes it easy for ALL player types to grasp in some form! If I may ask, do you read off your own written script?
@gamemasters
4 ай бұрын
I generally will research a specific subject (I'm usually already familiar with it, but want to refresh my memory). I make notes, LOTS of notes heh. Then I write a script and as I write it I'll pull clips/screenshots to help with the visual. I'll then read that script a few times and edit it down to make it less "wordy". I'll make keywords for points I want to mention, and place them at different points in the room (when you see me glance away.. heh small trick - it looks like I'm pondering a moment, I'm actually glancing at a note I've written down as a reminder for the topic that I'm on). While I have a script running on a teleprompter, I'll rarely look at it because I'm constantly going off script onto a tangent that seems good "in that moment". Basically.. it's a combination of "on the fly talking", matched up with reminding notes, with a script to keep me on track. Even then, I'll sometimes edit out major sections of what I recorded and other times, I'll go back in and rerecord parts (or record additional parts that I didn't consider the 1st go around).

Did you see the game informer article that previewed the new player's guide cover art plus some other art in the book? Its bitchin. They posted it on here yesterday. I meta game during dry runs of big dungeons as a dm, I use at least one player to help assist in the testing of stat blocks because honestly I'm horrible at improv in general so when I'm a player I tend to be like the slayer archetype and as a dm I basically try to prepare as much as possible and think of every possible thing a player could do to throw me off to be ready and keep things running smooth but of course that doesn't always work but it usually does.
