This is a challenge run I designed to mimic the way I believe the developers of Dark Souls would have envisioned the player progressing through the game.
Rules are as follows:
Player may NOT start as Thief or take the Master Key as a starting gift
o Master Key may be purchased from Domhall of Zena
Bosses MUST be defeated in order from lowest soul reward to highest, except as follows:
o If multiple bosses are tied for lowest, the player may choose the order
o Bosses unavailable to the player are excluded until they become available
o Gaping Dragon may be defeated before Quelaag
o If the player intends to make Anor Londo dark to access Gwyndolin, they may defeat Ornstein and Smough before Gwyndolin in order to do so.
o The player may wait to fight Sif until after obtaining the Lordvessel
o The player may wait to enter the DLC until after the 4 Great One’s are defeated
Weapon Upgrades are limited based on the number of bosses defeated in the run as follows:
o Standard weapons may not be upgraded past the total number of bosses defeated or equivalent. For example, if the player has defeated 13 bosses, they may use a +13, +8 Divine/Magic/Fire, or +3 Crystal/Chaos/Enchanted/Lightning weapon
o Unique Weapons (any weapon upgraded with Twinkling Titanite) and Dragon Weapons may only be upgraded to half the total number of bosses, rounded down. For example, if the player has defeated 7 bosses, they may use a +3 unique or dragon weapon.
The player may not attack any non-hostile NPC during the playthrough. This includes kicking NPCs off cliffs or getting enemies to attack an NPC to make them become hostile.
o If the player completes an NPC questline, causing the NPC to go hollow, the player may then fight the NPC as intended.
No glitches or unintended skips are allowed
o Duke Skipping is prohibited
o Painted World dragon butt jump attack skip is also not allowed
The player should not enter late game areas to collect items for the playthrough. The player should only be going into areas where the next boss is located unless a key item must be collected (such as retrieving the broken pendant to access the DLC)
