Suggestion for deck: Transcendence can be aided by several cards to lock you into a state of can't lose: Everlasting Torment, Rampaging Ferocidon, Leyline of Punishment, Forsaken Wastes, Sulfuric Vortex all stipulate that players can't gain life and Platinum Emperion locks your life total. Permanent Transcendence... So long as no one plays a removal spell.
@nedsummers9992
Жыл бұрын
Dave, I find this very important to note, as I have played transcendence before in an identical method: the lose the game is a triggered ability. This means, hilariously: If your life total is 20 or more and you control an effect that states “you can’t lose the game”, then an infinite loop is formed. If neither player wants to end the loop by removing one of these two cards from the battlefield, the game ends in a draw. (2004-10-04)

There is a ruling on Transcendence that says "If your life total is 20 or more and you control an effect that states “you can't lose the game”, then an infinite loop is formed. If neither player wants to end the loop by removing one of these two cards from the battlefield, the game ends in a draw". So watch out for that.

My number one suggestion, as a pseudo donate/removal spell, would be Fractured Identity. You can remove something, and give the table copies of it, or you can use it to give everyone a copy of one of the lose the game cards (just wins with Phage). Also, maybe Mutavault as a safer thing to put the counter from book of exalted deeds on, or Faceless haven if you can fit the snow mana.

One card I'd heavily recommend is Fractured Identity. Oh, Mutavault would be a good addition so you can animate it, put Book of Exalted Deeds on it since it's technically and Angel, and then keep it as a land for the rest of the game. Because most people don't play land destruction, it can make you mostly unkillable. (Also works with Faceless Haven if you have enough Snow Mana, but that's hard in a 5 color deck.)

Just something I'd like to mention is that with a card like lich's mastery saying you can't lose the game, that does not mean you opponents can not win the game. Through a card such as thassa's oracle or any other card that allows an opponent to win the game, they can still beat you. This is because winning in magic usually happens when a gamestate has been reached where all your opponents have lost (usually this being your opponents having 0 life or attempting to draw from an empty library.) Cards that have alternate win cons on them technically circumvent this by allowing an opponent to accjieve a "win condition" despite you being technically unable to lose. Also, you have to be careful with some cards here because, say, you control platinum angel and the immortal coil if an opponent exiles your graveyard that would cause the game to end in a draw. This happens because the immortal coil will see you having no cards in your graveyard and trigger, but platinum angel will make you not lose. So after the trigger resolves, immortal coil will see you haven't lost, and your graveyard is still empty, so it will trigger again, creating an infinite loop of involuntarily triggers meaning if nobody can stop it at Instant speed either by destroying one of the two cards or adding a card to you graveyard the game will end in a draw.

I dont think infinite combos are what you're going for with this deck, but anytime I see someone talk about how bad Pact of the Giant is im thrown back to the early days of 2010, when "From the Lab" was still a thing from WOTC, where a writer made up stupid deck ideas. He wanted to break the pacts. using Djinn Illumanatus from guildpact, you grant all your spells replicate x, where x is their mana cost. You can then simply put as many copies of any of the pacts on the stack that you want. The article went with pact of the giant, to put a whole bunch of dudes on the board. That deck, used sundial of the infinite to end the turn with the pay mana triggers on the stack, keeping the giants and avoiding the game loss. His deck was a modern deck, 60 cards. I built a five color EDH deck around the idea, called "Jumping through Hoops" and tried to find other ways to kill with that combo. You also get infinite ETB, so why not use a deal damage on creature enter affect like stalking vengeance? You also get infinite on the stack triggers, and there are a lot of cute wizards and shamans who love to ping opponents when you cast an instant or sorcery. Not saying these are good inclusions for your deck, but food for thought. I cant see pact of the giant and not be reminded of this deck anymore. You've inspired me to dust off my old list, and see if I cant tweak it into something more playable.

I made my atraxa deck with all the same non-red cards. I would run stifle or trickbind to counter lose the game effects should you need to. of course they can also be used to stop comboing opponents.

If you give Pact of the Titan replicate, it's an instant win in Kenrith, since you can give the tokens haste

This is a VERY dangerous deck and NOT for the reasons you think. Immortal Coil and Transcendence with a "you can't lose the game" effect ends the game in a draw if the "you lose the game" effect is satisfied since it will continually trigger thus creating a loop of mandatory actions. 728.4. If a loop contains only mandatory actions, the game is a draw. (See rules 104.4b and 104.4f.) Also, split second does NOT mean it cannot be responded to. You can still do anything that is not casting a spell or activating a non-mana ability. Generally, the only thing people can do in response to a split second spell is activate mana abilities. However, player can also take special actions. The important one being turning a facedown card faceup. This is a special action (not an activated ability), it doesn't use the stack (meaning it can't be responded to), and can trigger effects which CAN be used to counter a spell with split second...which is exactly why Stratus Dancer is a U staple of mine. 116.1. Special actions are actions a player may take when they have priority that don’t use the stack. These are not to be confused with turn-based actions and state-based actions, which the game generates automatically. (See rule 703, “Turn-Based Actions,” and rule 704, “State-Based Actions.”) 116.2b Turning a face-down creature face up is a special action. A player can take this action any time they have priority. See rule 708, “Face-Down Spells and Permanents.” Donating your Lich's Mirror to an opponent and putting them in a state of losing the game that Mirror doesn't reset (e.g. poison or commander damage), the game will also end in a draw since it only shuffles things its controller OWNS; and since your opponent doesn't OWN your Mirror, it will NOT shuffle and remain under their control continuously checking for a game-losing state which it would then have its controller shuffle. Also, with this because a replacement effect instead of a triggered ability, once it starts happening, it CANNOT be stopped since replacement effects don't use the stack and thus CANNOT be responded to. Also, the game ending in a draw is not a player losing the game and it's not a player winning the game. Therefore, "you can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game" effects do NOT stop the game from ending in a draw.

Now you have to use both every Alt-WinCon card and every Alt-LoseCon deck in the Ultimate Gambler Deck.

Might include Ad Nauseum, since you can combo it with the “can’t lose the game” cards and draw your deck

That definitely a good idea. Although it kind of moves the deck closer to becoming a combo deck, since every game I'd just be trying to cast Ad Nauseam and then draw my whole deck and cast all the extra turn cards.

My opponent and I stare at each other. Eternally. With no cards in hand. No cards in library. Both below 0 life. Untap. Upkeep. Draw. Lose. Can't. Your turn. Untap. Upkeep. Draw. Lose. Can't. Your turn.
