Dr. Singh thank you very much for explaining the most important aspect of playing the harmonica which is Murki. I don't know if it is the same thing which is called "Gamaka" on harmonium while accompanying bhajan singers. Kindly clarify. You are such a wonderful human being. God bless you.

Excellent video sir and very informative for new learners. Also if you could provide the notes of the demonstrating part of murki in the next videos, then it would be very helpful since we could pratice the same. But anyways, your videos helps a lot for beginners like me.

@@doordarshisingh Yes,but i was taking about the song notations where you were using murki. song name: "mere mehboob". if you could, in the future videos, provide the notations of the part of the song where you are demonstrating then that will be very useful for pratice.

Great lesson, thank you! As usual I have a question. It is not directly about murki, but may be related. Question is: can we play songs "effectively" on scales other than the base scale? For example, on a C scale harmonica, can we play on D sharp? I know it can be played, but the key word is "effectively" - meaning, with murkis and all such ornamentation effects. I can play on some scales but it is a very "plain vanilla" rendition - all notes will be correct, but lacks lustre. I could be mistaken but all the expert players performances that I have seen, seem to be on base scale - I can make it out by observing how they use the slider.

This is a good question.THEORETICALLY YES THEORETICALLY, a single harmonica can play in all the scales. But it is easier said than done, and actually not at all "doable". Any scale practically can play 6 scales - 3 majors and 3 relative minors. For example u asked C harmonica. It will play C major, F major and G major (all major scales) and A minor, D minor and E minor (the relative minor scales). Hence the answer to your question is no - A C scale harmonica will not allow u to play D# scale so easily. Anyway these discussions can't be done on YT - May be DD guru will give a video in that.

@@binayaksen5617 I do not understand major and minor scales; to be honest I haven't really tried to understand it either. All I know is that there are 7 natural and 5 chromatic notes for a total of 12, and so there are 12 scales. The "base" scale seems to be more flexible in terms of ornamentation; the others, not really. At least that has been my experience.
