At one point you said it sounds like a trumpet. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe these early fuzz designs were made to do exactly that, sound like a trumpet! Great demo as always, Jay!

When composing/recording Satisfaction, Keith Richards first thought of the riff to be played by a wind section. He ended up using his guitar through a fuzz though, so he could emulate that in a some way.

Like the softer warmer edge of the germanium. Just opened up Fuzzrite clone I bought and saw it had germanium transistors so happy with that. Good variety of sounds.

That vintage setting has a harmonic octave quality to it that I dig more than an actual octave fuzz! I’d have to say that this style of fuzz is also one that I’ve not played, or at least on stage. If I delve any further into the Hendrix catalog, I think I’ll have to seek one of these out!

Never played the original Tube Driver. I had a black 5 knob version, but never tried the off white 4 knob version that Eric Johnson and David Gilmour seem to love. I probably will be just as happy with my Dover Drive though, with a transformer cause noise on my pedal board.

Controls dialed half a way and up start to make that "blast speaker" sound or gets a bit too wild, but great for experimental noise- scapes (velvet underground and others alike). I find lower settings make for more dynamics and versatility. Thank you Jay ! great demo 👍

Compared to the silicon version it does not do the buzzy thing, the Iron Butterfly or Mr Soul type thing. He plays the Iron Bfly riff at one point and it's not the right voice. Definitely off on Satisfaction. This has a lot more bloom and galactic bursting going on. It's more like a Tone Bender MKl, it's pretty aggressive. I don't hear a Zonk, maybe it's closer to a Buzzaround. But also super messy like a Muff or a Double-Beat. He plays Hendrix at one point and it's actually pretty convincing as a fuzz face because of how it blooms. To me, it is its own thing that is cool in its own way. It does not sound like a Fuzz Rite to me. Try the Silicon version, or the Reuss version, it think it's the Rite Fuzz. Or The One Ton Bee by MOJO Hand (or maybe it's Stomp Under Foot) . Basic Audio Zippy too. Those are voiced more authentically to get that buzzy in-the-hive sound. I had the same response to the Demos in the Dark video, BTW.

I was thinking just this - it sounds cool, but not as distinctive as the OG fuzzrite. It’s something with the EQ; this Ge one has a much fluffier, bassy/low-mid thing. The Si sounds so vicious and cutting in comparison.

Thanks for your post. Im actually not much into mr soul, satisfaction kind of tone. Jay's dynamic playing and the way the pedal reacts i really dig. To my ears i hear more of a Hendrixy germanium fuzzface sound at times which is cool although i am more in the Tonebender mk3 camp, always interested in the bass response of fuzz pedals. I dont think Jay has got a lot of bass in his signal. It sounds controlled and not as splatty. I would lije to hear him compare it to the silicon one. What do you think?

I'm not really a fuzz or heavy distortion guy, but I'll admit I liked some of the tones here, especially the finger stuff, where you can play with the dynamics more. Jay can make anything sound great of course, and I enjoyed the snippets of oldies from before most of y'all were born. It's kinda funny... way back when, at least in certain circles, excessive "heaviness" was not cool. Bands like Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, and Vanilla Fudge were seen as amateurish sludge. In today's world, "extreme" is not enough. I'm reminded of the film Idiocracy...

I would check the product instructions on that to make sure it can use 9 v negative power AND if you can daisy chain. Many times Germanium will require positive tip power, and/or isolated power. OK here he is saying can take 9 v neg, it has a converter. I'd still say to check the daisy chain thing :)

I hate how fuzz pedals ruin all sustain. Which fuzz type to keep all sustain?
@JayLeonardJ
5 ай бұрын
One fuzz I really dig with lots of sustain is the Crazy Tube Circuits Starlight (kinda more of a distortion/fuzz hybrid). If you like Catalinbread, their Giygas pedal has really good sustain and is more of a traditional fuzz sound with some modern twists.
