Hi GPS, Thank you for always delivering such useful Hermes advice to the YT community. As a young girl, my Godmother always brought me fashion magazines, and wonders now why I am so obsessed with fashion. Go figure. I have been into shopping luxury brands since my early twenties when I got my first grownup job, and now over 10 years later I can honestly say I be lucky to have the best experiences shopping in luxury stores. I have never had a truly bad experience. I live in the DMV area, so the luxury stores are normally very busy on the weekends, where sometimes prior to COVID you had to stand in a line to get in, but if are able to go doing the week I feel like you get even better service. I have visited the DC Hermes store in City Center a couple of times, and I have only brought a twilly, but everyone was very nice and welcoming. This was a few years ago. I did look at the Oran sandals, but they didn't have my size. Do you have any experience or information about this store? I would love to know. I wish I would have found you before I made some quite pricey purchases online. I still have quite an extensive wishlist of things I want from the brand including a Kelly 28 in Epsom in black with gold hardware. I just hope whatever SA I end up working with can see my excitement for the brand and I ultimately end up with my dream bag.

Interesting video GPS. I had just talked about something I witnessed a couple of weeks ago with another youtuber this morning. So, 2 weeks ago, I went to the temporary boutique rue de Sèvres (the actual boutique has been under renovation since january I think) to change a watch battery. It is actually a very tiny 2-story space where the scarves, fine jewelries, watches, SLG, stationaries, homewares and bag orders departments are displayed altogether. It took about 30 minutes to get my watch back. During that time, I did witness a Kelly bag transaction. The customers were 2 average French young women (I think they were siblings). They did not look very wealthy nor fashionista, neither put together at all, just 2 random young French women who were trying to get their dream bag. The SA just asked them the usual questions (which colour they were looking for, what type of hardware, which size...). After he finished filling the form, he said to them, "I think I have sth in the storage room that is going to make you very happy". A few minutes later, he came back with a Kelly 28 in pink colour in togo leather. OMG, they were so overwhelmed by joy that either me and the SA couldn't help but being moved.I think it might be currently easier to get a bag in Paris since there have been no tourists and very few international customers over the last few months. Most of our luxury boutiques and department stores are hopelessly empty. So, they might have a bigger stock, who knows? Maybe shall I take a chance to get a mini lindy or a constance cartable? That's funny coz I had the exact same experience when I got my Kelly gold at the same boutique 2 years ago. I think I got mine right away coz I clicked with the lady SA who had been working with me at the petit H department a few minutes prior. She did introduce me to her colleagues from the bag department later and that's how I got my Kelly. I agree about their menswear collection being a kind of "predictable". The artistic director, Véronique Ninchaian has been there for ages. The style is actually very traditional French. It is just part of their DNA and they want to keep it as it is. I think it is a good thing coz we don't purchase Hermès menswear or Dior homme garnments, for example, for the same motives: I mean, they are not "show-off" apparels at all. I do personally love their menswear: they do make wonderful, timeless and elegant wardrobe basics, the cuts are often just perfection. And mostly, I like the fact of a woman designing garnments for men: they are full of subtle details that only the owner can know of (such as leather lining in the pockets, silk or leather details under the collar or hidden pockets, hidden buckles or hidden silver buttons ), the cotton and cashmere qualities are as refined as their leathers. However, I had never ever paid full price for their RTW, I do always buy them during their private sales ( there are usually a huge menswear stock there) and sometimes, there are some fantastic deals there as well (less and less as time goes by though). I also agreed that rodeo bag charms look like baby toys. A friend of mine bought me one, a few years ago, since my Chinese sign is horse. No offense, but I do find those charms hideous. Until now, I have never worn it and I don't think I ever will: I just displayed it just next to a very old and antique Guerlain horse statue in my bedroom! Conclusion: after spending months watching tons and tons of fashion related videos on youtube, aren't we all like grown-up and geeky kids discussing about our new acquired toys?

That is such a lovely story, thank you for sharing 🧡 That's exactly why I say, one or two bad experience with certain SAs don't speak for Hermes as a whole. Just like with everything, there's good and there's bad but as you witnessed first-hand there're so many wonderful, caring and kindhearted people working for the brand who'd love nothing more than make your luxury fashion dreams come true. Hermes is a family company and they're all about building long-term, in many cases cross generational relationships. You make a fantastic point. It's import to think about all the beautifully thought-out details, such as zippers and intricate linings. Their pieces are very understated and timeless as you mentioned but I do wish they spiced things up a little bit from time to time. I'm not asking for a Supreme x Hermes collaboration by any means..far from that actually, but would love to see different shapes, fabrics and design features introduced every once in a while 🙋🏻♂️ What a wonderful analogy! There's certainly something to it, if I can make 30 minute long videos talking about bags and clothes 👏🏻

@@IamGPS To get a new Hermès menswear, Véronique has to get replaced. Hopefully, we will never see sth similar to Louis vuitton x Supreme, DIor x Nike or Chanel x Pharell.... I do buy luxury stuffs because I am sensitive to their design, DNA, heritage, history, craftsmanship... not because of logos, branding or various trends...I mean, and that's just my point of view, a style or a garnment that used to look ugly and vulgar in the past, still is in the present. No matter if a luxury logo is stuck on it, it won't make it look more elegant.

I think what John Le could of meant was to be able to swap out the straps for the Constance bag. Hermes offers so many beautiful straps in different designs and sizes. It is a shame that it could not be used on the Constance. The aspect of being able to customise the strap makes it that much more personal and unique. Also, I love using the Evelyne for travel, it is less structured and could be squeezed if needed in the over head compartment.

watching an older video of yours GPS which is spot on as usual 👍🏻 i scored a B30 in Tokyo as a walk in and was encouraged to pick up a matching wallet and twilly, which I gladly did. And you’re right that in a home boutique with a purchase history, I’ve haven’t encountered the same “encouragement” when offered a quota bag or a rare one. But I usually do add on another item like homeware to show appreciation for the offer. The process is easier when you genuinely like what you are buying and who you are working with. I think the Hermes customer service issues probably has something to do with the incredible disrespect their SA’s must receive on a regular basis. Also, I was of the understanding that leather goods have a lower commission % than other items such as homewares & ready to wear, if this understanding is correct, it could explain why customer service is a bit lacking, especially if people are mostly purchasing leather goods. I think Chanel is best known for appalling customer service.

The strap length extension is not offered anymore :( I also asked about the Kelly mini II's strap since you mentioned it a while ago asking for a longer strap to be made. The profile building is really only in recent years due to China's peihuo (bag tax, as I once heard someone say) mentality, where you buy the same value of other categories to match the bag. This is particularly evident in airport stores because of aviation laws; anti-terrorism acts prevents international zones to record passenger profiles, that's why when you ask to 'pull up your profile' most airport stores will have no idea what you're talking about. Hence the 'bag-tax' where you have to buy what the sale's recommend you by buying a holy grail bag. That being said, I did walk into an Hermes store in Marseille back in 2014 and they offered me a Kelly 30 in Rouge H, decidedly I turned it down because I wasn't ready to make that purchase but the fact I just showed up only twice in that store while on my holiday, which shows you don't need a profile at all. I half agree with forced buying. You go to any other brand and their sales will be trying to "push" certain products on you. You still have a choice to buy the item or not. The only person to blame is your self conscience because you're the one paying at the end of the day XD. The 'quota' bag policy is actually obsolete now, if you spend enough money you will be able to pick up more than 2 bags a year. Albeit with careful investigation making sure that you're not a reseller or have resale intentions. . Please please please do a Hermes Horror Stories video!!! Ugh the Menswear is the bane of my existence, they actually do a lot of interesting menswear. but you have to scour the internet for those pieces (go on every Hermes.com in the world to see what varying pieces they have) I do have to admit that the menswear is quite timeless and easy to style with other statement pieces, also not all the colour ways are shown on the runway, so if you have a larger Hermes store near you, I would go in and chat with the SA to see what pieces they carry, because unfortunately you cannot expect the whole catalogue to be online. Mind you, each store has a set budget for different metiers, and the menswear budget is always smaller than the women's so don't expect much from the runway unless your Hermes store is big and carries 2 or more looks.
@IamGPS

Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏻 You can still place an order for a longer Kelly strap..at least I was able to not that long ago 🙋🏻♂️ It's an interesting point you make about the airport policies as I never looked at it that way. However, most airport boutiques are not allowed to sell quota bags. You can sometimes find a Constance, Kelly Pochette or Kelly Cut but no Kelly or Birkin is sent in stock to airport stores. I'm so intrigued to hear more about your thoughts on this change of policy. In the US and the EU, as of 2020 you're still limited to 2 bags / year regardless of your spending habits. If someone says otherwise they're not following Hermes policies and perhaps willing to brake the rules for you and release bags on different profiles under alternative names..which does happen but could get SAs fired so not worth playing around with. If you're interested in their menswear, you could always ask to have a look at the buying catalog which includes flatlays of all the items created for the season 🍊
@northen20

I am GPS I’ll ask my SA again about the longer strap, it could be that the demand for it isn’t significant enough in the Australian market for them to have that request put through. Also the logistics probably wouldn’t be worth the sale considering the fact we don’t have in house ateliers like Europe, Asia and Americas do. The Hong Kong airport is the only exception to be known to carry Kelly bags as I’ve heard they’re the only airport store to be directly operated by Hermes, due to their duty free policies applying to all products in the territory, which makes no difference for Hermes to have a concession or operate on their own. I guess it comes down to whether or not Hermes trusts third party companies to handle their exceptional bags 😂. Constance bags are quite common at airport stores. There was one even on display in the window a little before lockdown while I was travelling. It was a Bleu du nord 24 in PHW, too bad it was display only so you couldn’t really try it. But surprising sight to see 🤓. Well as with all social media, news spreads like wildfire, and one particular VIP likes to show off her purchase on a particular platform. She was flexing her purchases by showing that she had gotten the limited edition Birkin sellier 30 and Himalayan Croco in white gold hardware and diamonds. Both in the same day (again debunking the myth around not being able to purchase more than one holy grail in one transaction). I mean if you flick through her other posts you can find she’s already gotten every sought after colour, leather and size. Customers like that obviously have a get out of jail card 🤷♂️ but of course, most people do only get a limit of 2 a year, not that anyone would want to buy more than two a year, unless you’re rolling in diamonds. I frequent the store often enough to flip through their RTW catalogue from the runway, but sometimes it’s hard to identify pieces individually, especially since they layer in some looks. It really comes down to what you are looking for to fill your closet right now and I usually try to buy pieces I’m replacing or missing to fit my aesthetics. I do enjoy going in and seeing what they have. They’re holding a RTW launch soon and Im excited to see if they have any new pieces arriving, but more so what’s coming up in the new collection as well. I’ve already flagged a few I’d like to try on and sent them to my SA to hold for me 😂 gotta stay ahead of the game 😬

You should have them double check 🙋🏻♂️ As long as you have a proof of purchase of the bag they should be able to order it for you, as it has nothing to do with local craftsmen. It's made in France and is directly shipped to your home store. Interesting..a couple of years ago, it became a huge issue in the US that SAs would release multiple bags within the same year to clients using alternative names and profiles. Many store managers and SA were fired for that very reason. Staring 2020, in the US and Europe you're allowed to purchase 2 bags within a year, however, you're no longer restricted by the seasons. You can pick up 2 bags any time within a year. The only exception is if your SO arrives after you've exhausted your annual allowance which totals 3 bags a year 🙋🏻♂️

So now it surprises me when people mention how they had horrible experiences and the bad reviews for that particular boutique. I see a lot of mention of rudeness and snootiness but never felt that from my SA or any other staff there. It was actually one of the customers who acted that way toward me and my husband while waiting in line. We did NOT look like people that would shop at Hermès (my husband was especially dressed extremely casually in his cargo shorts and Birkenstock’s). Actually in Japan, you don't have to play this sort of "games" in order to get BKC. Sure if you are willing to drop €6000 first you definitely would get "more options" in colors and materials there but it's all optional, proven the game doesn't necessarily have to exist. The quality of Hermès is great, but let's not sugar coating the fact that there's a "game" going on in almost everywhere. In some regions, the game is so ugly that the force purchase ratio is > 1:3. Their tactic make them look cheap and enable a huge replica market that end up with 80% of the BKC on the roads are actually knock-offs. VIPs got pre-sales event like every other big brands such as LV and Chanel, they don't need to play the game. The game was design specifically for extracting maximum profit from those who are "not-VIP" to the brand.

I think the most frustrating thing about Hermes purchased history is their country based system, and even store based. If they want to make their customers feel there is no game, just loyalty, then I should be able to walk in to any store in the US and get offer what they have. But somehow, I don’t think so. Have anyone have this kind of success? Also, if you bought a lot of things in Europe, American SAs don’t care either. Does not count!

I got a leather bag exactly like that for £100, a good 10 years ago. Not Hermes, but identical. I think it was Italian . I only see reality stars & You Tubers with designer stuff these days. I'd rather spend my money on decor these days.

I love working with my local Hermes SA. He just got me a Pegase Pop Herbag in Ecru-beige. When I told him I wanted one in black, he even went as far as calling the only boutique in the country that still had that bag hoping that they would sell it to me. They did not budge explaining that they reserved that bag for their loyal customers. I left the store and the next day got a text from him that he just got one in beige. I was at the store right away picking up this beauty. I like Hermes products across a range of categories. Their equestrian wear is really good, porcelain is just beautiful, and shoes are great too. Hermes is a global company that tries to create a small boutique shopping experience for its customers. Small production numbers make sense too. You can only scale craftsmanship so much. This is what makes the brand desirable - their expertise in crafting products. I don't think Hermes "plays games", they just want to preserve their brand experience while being a global publically traded company. Oh, and I enjoy the appointment system. That way, you can have up to an hour of your SA's time to chat, make selections, and ask questions. When I walk into Louis Vuitton it's like a factory where they cycle as many people as possible through. I can't connect to the atmosphere and therefore can't really spend time thinking about their products. Totally different vibe.

Sometimes I feel it odd when people say they hate playing the game with Hermes. If I made bags, I would give my bags to people I know that likes my products I make.

That's exactly what Hermes is trying to achieve 🙋🏻♂️ Make sure the bags go home with people who have a true appreciation for the brand and its values.
