I've been using a H&K Tubemeister 18 for a year now . It does not have onboard effects or preset storage but it has the built in DI Redbox and power soak features. I love it. Clean tones and lead tones are superb. I tend to play with as low an onstage volume as possible and use my amp, speaker as my monitor, and leave it to the house PA to mix my DI sound. I recently blew one of the EL 84 power tubes in rehearsal before a big show. This gave me a huge appreciation for their TSC circuitry that diagnoses faulty tubes and prevents more serious problems. The amp was fine, and replacing the tube (with the invaluable help of KZitem) was a 15 minute job. Big fan of H&K!

More than impressed!. Never ceases to amaze me how modern amps and general music equipment has progressed in such a short space of time. So much easier to be a musician these days. Kinda makes you want to turn back the clock and learn all over again with the gear available now. Imagine how good we'd be. I envy any new starter now. No need for all the difficulties we had with the crap stuff we had to endure as kids trying to learn with poor quality guitars and over priced rubbish amps.

Great amp and congrats Sir. Myself, I tend to keep it simple. This philosophy also requires myself to have many different amplifiers. The only issue I see with amplifiers like these (very complicated) is that they can't possibly hold up as well as a simple PTP amp. I purchased a brand new Fender Twin Reverb back in 1976. All these years later I am still using that amplifier. Dropped, Rain/Snow, Years of abuse and with normal maintenance she is actually sounding better than the day I brought her home from the store. We are all different and have different needs, so this is indeed very cool, again congrats Sir. Myself, I'll keep it simple.

I used to own a Hughes and Kettner, but no matter how much dirt I piled on, it never truly broke up in mid frequencies. It sizzled and it thumped, but when trying to make it roar and growl it sounded a bit forced. Well that was my experience, however I truly hope you find your new H&K satisfying. And; I hope you know your playing is really why I watch what you present. Well your playing is great, but even better is your attitude. P.S. : Very simple amps can be great too. The Marshall JTM1C loaded with a Jenson P10Q is my favorite amp that I've ever played. That's why it is now my one and only amp.

Hey FYI to make this amp easy to use.. if you turn the amp on but still in stand buy press and hold for 3 sec store and fax button til they blink then from there and what button you push. You can set the presence and resonance knobs to global so they don’t change by preset. (I think it’s a lot more easy to have it this way. You can also set the power soak for all presets. So what ever watt you chose it will stay that for every preset. So you can have you gig settings then go home and push one button and it stay at the watt. I also think turning the master all the way up then using channel volume up at like 10 -11 o’clock then back off the master if needed but try to leave it dimed. Knowing this has made me like this amp a lot. THERE IS A DIAGRAM ON THE BOTTOM OF THE AMP HEAD! Lol

I used to own one of these! I felt the clean tone was too quiet when I had it and that the lead tone was a bit dead. The crunch channel gunned with the boost engaged was all the gain I could ever need and was KILLER. I originally ran it into an orange 4x12 cab, but downsized to the 1x12 matching Hughes and kettner cabinet. That cabinet had something special. It was so spanky!! I do think that the power soak actually affected the tone of the amp quite a bit, but that was just me. I really wish I didn't have to sell it. It was a great amp.

Was confused, til I checked the lights. Bad tube. Manual shows how to read them. I believe the shipping carrier bounced mine around, or a manufacturing flaw. Swapped tubes. The 2 ELL 84’s, I replaced as a set for bias and balance and all good. I know was still under warranty, but didn’t trust it bouncing around during shipping.👍🤘🎸🤘

This video makes me remember when I bought my H&K 100W some twentyfive years ago. At every gig I had to fight with sound guys to have it connected through the back instead of using a mic: it just sounded better most of the time! Great amps up to the TriAmp. And I still have it.

I hear ya! I'm a true gear nerd. I currently own 14 guitars, bought and sold another 15 or so in the past 20 years, owned almost 10 bass amps, a bunch of pedals... But when I bought my Triamp in 2006, I never looked back. It's still right next to me as I'm typing this, I never thought of replacing it, always used it at home, at rehearsals, gigs, recordings,... I did order an H&K Tubemaster 40 Deluxe yesterday, since I'd like to leave the Triamp in the rehearsal room. The Tubemaster and Grandmaster seem like the perfect home(recording) amps. Especially since I heard that the Tubemaster's preamp section is based on the Triamp.

I followed an almost identical path, though I literally have none of your ability. Bought a used Blue Angel combo 15 years ago - loved the sound but could never wind it up. Bought a Weber attenuator which helped, but what did it for me was the sheer weight of the Mesa. Back breaking. Started looking around for a more adaptable amp and finally bought a H&K Tubemeister 36 combo. What a change. Core tone wasn’t quite there but when you off-set that against the benefits, I’m a happier bunny. Looking forward to hearing how your journey with H&K develops. (PS: Blue Angel is now for sale on Reverb ... UK only, I’m afraid!).

I have a used H&K switchblade Combo as a practice amp. It's is really heavy (full tube amp). 3/4 of the channels Sound amazing, but I haven't got a great Sound out of the lead channel. It sounds too thin. I can store 128 Presets - which means that for a clean gig I could have 4 different clean sounds stored on bank 1 Sound 1-4. Or no clean Sound on another bank - activating/deactivating FX chan is storable too (but no footswitch for that). For 300 E second Hand it was an amazing deal. I have been a marshall Player all my life - except the one Engl preamp I occasionly use. But the clean sounds of H&K switchblade absolutely rock!

Speaking as an old guy, this would be the ultimate in self-indulgence - an awful lot of amp for someone who only plays at home. Very expensive, so I couldn't justify the cost. She PT15 or PT100 for the features. Yet I would run a Weber head switcher with a Bassman and low watt JCM800 into a Boss TAE for my perfect rig. But that would be the dry or mixed rig. A wet amp would be a AC30 or Frenzel HBX15.

Gonna Miss the Blue Angel, however this is an acceptable replacement. I think Phillip McKnight uses the same one in his videos and always sounds awesome.

Two reasons to buy a H&K. 1) Alex. 2) Lifeson. The cool blue lights don’t hurt. Great studio amp but I wouldn’t trust it banging around Canada in a band truck LOL.

comes in a gig bag so personally I don't see it as the kind of amp you log at the back of the truck, but in the truck instead. I mean it's small and not really that heavy.

I really want a Fender tweed amp for that authentic post Marshall / Gibson Eric Clapton sound, however, they are fair too loud for home or studio. Sounds like this amp with the power sink might just do the trick. Wish it had a head phone jack though.

I hate to say this but after finally figuring out the global eq and how to set it on my katana mk2 head it still sounds better than any other I have including my hk.
