managed too finish with 2 lose screws and just used some avg pc thermal paste so its not dead silent but a huge improvement from what it was, thank you for this video learned quite a bit too.

Did you not change your thermal pads? Doing the full works tom. Scared about the power cord as I’ve read reports people have pulled it off.
@ChristakisTech
Жыл бұрын
Good point! Since you are doing all the rest would be easy. Just pads, are not going bad that fast in the way thermal paste goes dry for example. Important to check the health of them and if there's any missing. I guess you can change them every 4th time you are doing the thermal paste. With power cord go genlty, avoid the friction. If you feel it is stiff enough good practice is to use contact cleaner which will lubricate the connector and make it easier. Let me know what you think and thanks for your comment.

You need to unscrew not from the side you are taking off the power supply but there is a screw from the other side of the console that is mounting on power supply. Be sure you have unscrew everything from the other side and then come unscrew this side as well. It is a bit resistant to take out, go with patient and eventually will come out.

Alcohol can help you do the job easier. You can try 70%+, or 90%+ better and you are good to go. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is a good choice. :)

@ChristakisTech

Would be difficult to find thermal pads to do a decent job for a console where heat is really in high levels. There are some more thermal conductive materials in a form of glue that they are not really suitable for the job. So thermal paste is the way to go. I'm not really fan of the liquid medal. I'm not suggesting using it unless you know how to deal with it.

can we use J-B weld extreme heat as thermal paste for a ps4?
@ChristakisTech
2 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend something like that. There are more specific products on the market for doing the job. Choose a good quality paste. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is high performance paste with good thermal conductivity rate, 12,5 W/mk. Is more expensive but your ps4 will be more silent for longer! Feel free to try other thermal paste with similar conductivity. :)

A little rant of confusion: 17:52 , thats how it looks when you separate the motherboard from the heatsink immediately after reapplying paste; looks like tiny mountains of paste. They say it's not recommended to check if paste spread correctly after applying because it creates air pockets when putting it back together; so it's best to just trust that it evenly spread. Yet, one method of applying paste is manually spreading it, like you did... I'm just wondering because after I applied new paste on my series s, I checked to see if it spread evenly (the paste wasnt on two sides of the rectangular cpu; I'm hoping it eventually touched those areas after screwing together the clamp.) And I'm hoping I didnt cause any issues in the future. I used up all my paste.

thank you for this tuturial. Really easy. It doesn't take off anymore like a airplane. It's not quiet either. But yeah for the 15euros of thermalpasta it was worth it.

Probably you don't need to remove it, I'm not sure about that, (I will check this next time), but why not to do it and avoid finding it on your way down the whole procedure. It's just one screw and a small cover to pull to take it out! Thanks for asking! 🙂

@@CinematicUniverse26290 Thanks for sharing your observation first of all. So far i have still a silent ps4 (which was really noisy before), after almost year and a half of many hours playing so i haven't done any repaste and I cannot say how the paste will look like. Have in mind that if there is no obvious reason to do otherway you'll better change your paste every 2-3 years. I personally tried to apply the paste on the whole surface before I put back on the radiators but I don't think can make much of a difference for the pattern's you mentioned. Try to change or apply the paste evenly on the surface and share your experience. Thanks for watching!

Which thermal paste you used? Should i get thermal grizzly? For how long it will last ? And what happens if i use more than enough thermal paste?
@ChristakisTech
3 жыл бұрын
I would definetely reccomend to use one of the best thermal pastes that you can find around. One of them, is the one I'm using. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut which has excellent thermal conductivity! Cost more but worth every penny. That's because consoles are having much tighter built than a regular desktop pc where you can use other pastes with less conductivity without major problems. Consoles are very demanding in general with that. You don't need to use that one, but sure check the specs of paste to be as higher as possible with thermal conductivity can get. You don't want to mess with heating problems or noisy console. As far as concerns how long can get you, it really depends always from the use of console you are doing. Just remember to keep your console out of dust and can take you easy 2 years if not more! Don't bother to use a bit more paste if you want as long as you will not over do it. But it is not really neccessary. A layer of paste that is on the video is ok to have your console cooled down and silent. Already checked that one! 😉 Thanks for watching!
