Eithéa (アイシア) is an RPG that developed by TamTam and published by Atlus back in 2001, exclusively for the Sony Playstation home console system and the Japanese market.
Shou and his friends are about to say goodbye to a classmate ~he is going to change school~ when suddenly, the world turns upside down and 6 people (five students and their teacher) find themselves stuck in another world named Eithéa.
In the world of Eithéa there are 3 clans, Moonlight - Fire Dragon - Night Dreamers, and all of them are in conflict for different reasons.
Trapped in this weird world, our main hero Shou and his friends must find a way to stop the conflicts and then , return back to their home world.
Eithea is an old school, turn based RPG with an event based - pre-fixed fighting system. The presentation is a mix of pixel art artwork and pre-rendered designs (backrounds and some items).
In battles, the player’s choice of positioning and direction determines which enemies are within range of a character’s attacks. Formations can be changed in mid-battle at the cost of letting the enemy have one round of free hits.
Two interesting features of the battle system are : the " TIP " which is basically a distance super attack and the "LAV". Lav is a measure of the trust each of the (female) party members has in Shou that affects the fights. In other words it's a tool for damage boost or damage reduction. The Lav stat depends on your answers during the gameplay.
Story wise, the plot is quite simple and probably, what you would expect from a "hero that wants to save the world" scenario. There are a lot of "cliches" and also, a LOT of dialogues. As you can see in the video, the flooding is phenomenal.. but it helps you understand/learn more about the world of Eithea.
All and all, it's not bad game by any means , the production values are good and the overall experience satisfying. It's biggest issue is the lack of originality , especially , in the plot development.
* It's not an import friendly game.
