Made a mistake!! Accidentally put magnets in reverse in 4 gear Auto World Slot Car Deluxe Pit Kits! They go the other way --- clockwise -- around the track!
Model Railroad & Slot Car HO Racing Layout: Cars racing: Plymouth Cuda 1970 Auto World Four Gear vs Cadillac Ambulance 1959 Auto World Four Gear (same paint job a s first one). These two vehicles are from Deluxe Pit Kits that were self painted and assembled. Four Cadillacs were bought at the time the only pit kits at hobby store rack (no hobby shops nearby, so when traveling away from home, got different pit kits at a later time).
HO Scale Trains in video: Northern Pacific EMD F7A & B (Athearn) diesel locomotives and eight Rivarossi Northern Pacific passenger cars. These Deluxe Pit Kits had to be painted and assembled. In the assembly the magnets were put in reversed as a mistake, however it was decided to leave them in and race these cars the other way around the track. The slot cars worked well in the opposite direction of the normal counter-clockwise. They ran well with no glitches noted so far and were fun to run around the track in the new clockwise direction. Funny how this was never tried before (always had factory built cars). Maybe will keep a few reversed cars. They stayed on the track very well going quite fast in speed on the straightaway tracks. The Plymouth was faster usually. There were mishaps but did not catch on video. The cars had nice range of speeds on the Parma controllers, so they could be slow through the curves and also sprint on straightaways. The occasional times car wheels lose contact with the road is when they get bumped by the other car (as can be seen on video), or swerve on a curve or go too fast. In the practice driving, they had to slow for curves or the wheels lost contact with the road. Video is not at all in order or continuous, the one camera on tripod was moved around various viewing angles during the race and the clips were edited and intermingled. Slot Car Track layout has been engineered to keeps cars rolling. Track sections have jumper soldered wiring. Also feed wires go to several of these jumper wires. The self paint jobs are not all that great, but they were successfully assembled and did actually work well. Did have two pit kits before these, but they were used for parts. Did need some springs and pickup shoes and replaced an armature in 2013 cars. These were the first self built cars. Forced Perspective: Objects in foreground appear larger than objects in background due to perspective. Videos of layout with slot cars and trains exploit forced perspective that makes background objects simply appear more distant. The videos are shot with the 1/64 slot cars in foreground as much as possible to use forced perspective to make the 1/87 trains, vehicles and structures appear to be further away and minimize the scale difference.
