Background and writing information about the original song "True" by Spandau Ballet: "True" was composed by group leader Gary Kemp, who wrote the song at his parents' house while living there.[6] It is a six-minute (in its original album version) song that in part pays tribute to the Motown artist Marvin Gaye, who is mentioned in the lyrics, and the sound he helped to establish. According to Kemp, "I think I wanted to write a song that was a bit like a Marvin Gaye, Al Green song, a blue-eyed soul song. It was at a time when it was me concentrating on melody first rather than the sort of riff and the groove. Kemp also said, "'True' became a song about writing a love song. Why 'Why do I find it hard to write the next line? I want the truth to be said?' Because I didn't want to write it down-because there's nothing more embarrassing."

Caught a snippet of this recently, decided to come online and listen to it again. I loved this song when it came out in ‘83 and it was the go to song for doing…. Thanks Spandau Ballet! When PM sampled it I wasn’t sure at first. But their interpretation and lyrics did it justice. Hard to believe it’s been all these years since the original Spandau song and this version came out. Where have the decades gone?

I remember couple skating with my crush at skateland. This song came on and I remember him skating over to me. He had light brown hair and hazel eyes, I had such a crush on him. The moment this song came on I saw him and kept smiling at me, he was gathered around his friends. When he came up to me, my heart was pounding, "Wanna couple skate with me?" God, I miss the 90's. How innocent and sweet we were back than. Still think of him from time to time. He was so cute to me, I always wanted to couple skate with him and I'm glad my wish came true.

When this came out I was a guitarist in a metal band and I heard this song and loved it but had to listen to it on the old Walkman because back then it was uncool and I would be a " poser". Though I was a metal head I really liked N.W.A, Public Enemy, and absolutely had mad respect for Run DMC. It really was a shame most of the metal musicians didn't step out of the metal zone it really would have expanded their skills and creation. Then after Public Enemy and Anthrax collaborated it was cool to listen to Rap. Now it is really awesome to see at least 2 white guys that can rap and many black musicians in metal bands. And to the old school rappers and fans I as a white guy apologize for Vanilla Ice
