Sadly I have a lot of issues with Mr. Shabber Zadi comments and way of thinking, I am not even in the same league to debate with him on economics. What I would remind him is this very dependence on the IMF and the establishment in America is what Imran khan wants to take his country away from. There are a number of examples I could give but I would just like to highlight and remind to Mr. Shabbar Zaidi of the situation in Turkey in the not too distant past. And when the people of Turkey finally got a leader who wanted to rid his country of the IMF and the influence of the USA on its internal affairs! Since 1961, Turkey has signed 19 IMF loan accords. Erdoğan's government satisfied the budgetary and market requirements of the two during his administration and received every loan installment, the only time any Turkish government has done so. Erdoğan inherited a debt of $23.5 billion to the IMF, which was reduced to $0.9 billion in 2012. He decided not to sign a new deal. Turkey's debt to the IMF was thus declared to be completely paid and Erdoğan announced that the IMF could now borrow from Turkey. Bilateral trade between Turkey and China increased from $1 billion a year in 2002 to $27 billion annually in 2017. Erdoğan has stated that Turkey might consider joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation instead of the European Union, so this is another fallacy by Mr. Shabbar Zaidi that the world needs the USA as an economic partner. These are historical facts Mr. Shabbar Zaidi this is the type of leadership we want not the type Mr. Shabbar Zaidi and all his genius technocrats and his wonderful establishment have subjected our nation to for nearly 70 years. His other statement that the establishment is far more concerned about the well-being of the Pakistani economy then either the PDM or PTI, sadly nothing could be further from the truth then this statement, as it is the same establishment which was instrumental in bringing in this band of criminals to take a flourishing economy even with the handicap of covid 19 to the brink of bankruptcy, sadly this rhetoric maybe be palatable to the uneducated masses but not to the educated few. If the wonderful establishment who have the interests of the common man at heart then please ask Mr. Shabbar Zaidi to give us an example of any period in our sad and tortured history of just over 70 years where we were prosperous and not dependent on loans as from his statements it’s the establishment which runs Pakistan and not the politicians. This rubbish about a 200 year Anglo Saxon relationship (has he not read the history of India it was the richest country in the world prior to our Anglo Saxon saviours and thanks to Mr. Shabbar Zaid Anglo Saxon masters they looted us and left us in abject poverty, I have never heard so much rubbish from a supposedly intelligent person) this is the exact slave mentality we the nation don’t want to be party to with these so called technocrats of the establishment, their agenda is selfish as it keeps the establishment whom Mr. Shabbar Zaidi is a part of in a life of luxury at the expense of the nation, No thank you Mr. Shabbar Zaidi. Mr. Shabbar Zaidi can ask any economists that USA is a bankrupt country and is only surviving because of its military might and false world economy based on the USA dollar this in our short life time will be coming to an end, if the USA was a company it would have to file for bankruptcy it has a 35 trillion dollar debt any economist will tell you that it is not possible for it to pay its loans even with its vast economy, so the USA is not a good economic model. China who this genius of an economist is so critical of, has in the past 30 years taken 700 million of its people out of poverty (an unprecedented number in such a short time in human history) and is trillions of dollars in surplus and is not part of any IMF program, we don’t need any blackmail of USA as our only customer for our products, if our products are good enough there will be buyers, rest assured if our products and services were rubbish USA would not buy from us because they feel sorry for the poor Pakistani people. This false propaganda this genius is promoting has kept our nation back for the past 70 years! I am in total disagreement with Mr. Shabbar Zaidi about the attitude of Chinese business in Pakistan and can speak of my own personal involvement in the social housing projects which sadly didn’t come to fruition due to covid, the attitude of the Chinese was to help share their technology in building with the Pakistani and also were providing 85% of the funding on exceptionally favourable terms and even bringing in banking to help 1st time buyers with funding. The reason for the perceived failure of CEPAC is the false rhetoric spread by people like Mr. Shabbar Zaidi and serves the USA agenda as it sees china as its biggest threat. One of the main reason for it not being more successful then it should be is the rampant corruption by the establishment that is a reality I know from my own experience 1st hand. This is the most pro American agenda I have ever come across from a Pakistani, it’s very sad to see and even more difficult to digest that it’s people like this who are in charge of our countries future and is the main reason why we have not progressed and will never progress until we stop listening to these American stooges! Also as a reminder as I believe it is relevant to this argument, it was for this very reason that the west fronted mainly by the USA, destroyed one of the most successful and fastest growing and most liquid banks BCCI headed by a banking genius Aga Hassan Abbadi (a former head of Habib bank) along with countless successful businesses owned by mainly people from the subcontinent. BCCI was providing a counterbalance to the IMF and sanctioned loans where the IMF refused to African countries and hence taking away the leverage that the USA wanted over the country’s politics. The false narrative used to destroy BCCI was money laundering, give me an example of one bank in the world which has never been party to money laundering unknowingly, sheikh Makhtoom the head of the UAE at the time agreed to underwrite any shortfall that BCCI may have had, but the USA and its western allies were not willing to accept as it didn’t not need any competition to its IMF. Mr. Shabbar Zaidi is welcome to go and study that as well, the sooner we get ourselves away from the IMF programs the sooner the people of Pakistan will get true independence like Turkey and hence it is not a favourite of the west and USA. The IMF is a curse on the poor nations of the world to keep them in Morden day slavery to the USA and it is this unfairness that is providing the high standard of living to its nationals at the expense of the poor nations! As you can see from my comments I am in total disagreement with Mr. Shabbar Zaid narrative and way of thinking, sadly the only polite analogy I can give is that of an Uncle Tom, he is exactly the type of influential persons that Danial S Markay refers to in is book “No exit from Pakistan” that the American establishment buys and use to enforce its foreign agenda on Pakistan

We have $135 billion dollars in debt and we have only $5 billion and we are practically bankrupt so how are we going get out of this mess? Don’t compare us with Turkey! Turkey is in G20 countries! Even Afghanistan has more money than us? It all depends on people in 1990 India has $1 billion dollars and went to IMF and today India has $550 Billion dollars! We have gone to IMF 23 times and we don’t learn our lessons! So what do you think Pakistan should do right now to get out of this mess???

@@mohsinafzaal7159 Trust me I have a good knowledge of Imran khan’s personality, he is with plenty of flaws, but you are entitled to your opinion. Sadly in the immediate we have no option but to go to the IMF but we need to have a long term strategy to be independent of these institutions like the IMF which dictate our foreign policies. What have 75 years of following the policy imposed on us by the USA and their stooges within our politics and establishment given to the people of Pakistan huge loss of Pakistani lives and a bankrupt nation. This will require sacrifices from a generation and there is no short fix in the same way that China did. Imran khan may not be perfect but he is the best we have and have ever had as he sees this big picture and is a true patriot and incorruptible and that is enough for me and the majority of the population. Your attitude is a little defeatist and I would like to point out and for you to tell me one thing Imran khan has failed at, when everyone and everything has against him, Shaukat Khanum hospital, become one of the greatest all rounders in cricket not through talent but hard work and single mindedness, taking a previously inept though talented nation to wins in India, West Indies, uk and then the World Cup, to establish a university in Pakistan where the students degrees were to be accredited by one of the leading universities in uk, this was one of his stipulation in taking the honourary position of vice chancellor of Bradford university, to establish a political party to not only rival but overtake the 2 established party’s and and become the first truly federal party unlike the 2 previously regional parties, stand up to the corrupt establishment which has savaged our country for nearly 75 years are some of his main achievements. You are extremely naive to set aside these achievements, name any Pakistani or for that reason any leader in recent history to boast a cv close to this, if you wrote this in a book people would say stop writing such fantasies about one person as no one will believe you. There is no one who comes close to having any semblance of a chance of putting us on the long path to recovery, he is not a politician or an economist, but believe me he is a very fast learner and unbelievably single minded and history will be witness to that. This summary does not do justice to my arguments.

In April of last year, Pakistan was paying its bills (making payments on its sovereign debt), economy was growing, tax collection was at a record, exports were at a record, record agriculture output, Rs was stable, remittances were at a record. All of that was jeopardized to get here. Pakistan was handling circular debt, social programs and all. All of that was jeopardized. Not everything is a straight line, it matters who is running the country and what is the political ideology driving the govt.

Shabbar Zaid narrative and way of thinking, sadly the only polite analogy I can give is that of an Uncle Tom, he is exactly the type of influential persons that Danial S Markay refers to in is book “No exit from Pakistan” that the American establishment buys and use to enforce its foreign agenda on Pakistan.

And I would very much like to see who in PK had the courage and moral authority to bring and stand-by Dr. Mian - and have him run PK's economy for a 5 year period. If that happens then that will be PK's turnaround moment in time - similiar to IN's 1991 Dr. Manmohan Singh moment. Hope that happen - but I am not holding my breadth that it will. Mr. Zaidi is a bonafide representative of corporate world (Army Incorporation included) of Pakistan. Their life goal is to earn more and more money in the shortest period of time. There is nothing wrong with it in a way. Sovereignty and dignity are not in their lexicon - these are rubbish alien concepts. Sovereignty comes with a huge cost. Dichotomy is that we want to have sovereignty without paying the cost. We keep on swinging between these two points and end up having neither sovereignty nor prosperity. Analogy of 100 slippers and 100 onions fits perfectly. His recipe is very simple - give whatever Americans want and everything will fall in place in no time. This is a valid argument. Irony is that we've tried it several times before (i.e. in Musharraf's era). In the process, we lose sovereignty so much (recall Black Water's unchecked rule in the country and drone attacks all over the place) that we feel that we can't take it any more - our blood boils and we embark on reclaiming the sovereignty. Fountains of 'foreign lent prosperity' get dried overnight. We can't take so much of lack of prosperity - so back to selling sovereignty. We have completed the course of 100 onions and 100 slippers so many times in last 75 years. By doing the same thing over and over again, outcome won't change. We just make fool of ourselves. We need to try something different for once. Are we ready?

What we need in Pakistan is structural changes and not cosmetic sort term measures - The army + PDM policy is forever living off loans -there will have to be repaid at some point - What we need is structural changes that encourage business, for people to start and progress. There are two big obstacles to this one is the lack of any rule of law and two is business monopolies operated by the very people that will not allow the rule of law. The Army and corrupt elite. No matter what economic policies they adopt they will fail because of these structural failings and this is the point IK makes. No one in their right mind is going to invest in Pakistan because they know their money is going to be stolen either by these elite criminals and their underlings. The First Priorty should be rule of law, two remove unnecessary regulatory barriers to starting and running a business, three divest the military of all businesses and forcing them to concentrate on their core function of being security guards. Reform the tax system so that it is based on income not the source of the income i.e currently, arigulture is not taxed and more emphasis needs to be paid on direct taxes rather than indirect taxation. But the biggest obstacle to this is the military and judiciary. All the polcies adopted by PDM+Generals are are just sticking plasters and a huge burden for future generations. In essence we need two things Rule of law and honest Political stability (Not corrupt people in power who think of themselves first and the nation second)

Mr. Zaidi seems to tell us that we should go along with the economic hit man plan and surrender to the ongoing exploitation. Why shouldn't we not see things our own way - which may not be possible - given the stark realities as explained by Mr. Zaidi. We need to balance out between the way China under invoices vs American MIT studies paper that was published during during Ayub Khan period. That MIT model proposed to let corruption in the Pakistan bureaucracy happen, the corruption money would be re-invested back into Pakistan's economy. That did not happen, the corrupt indulged in luxury living and big palatial house, DHA's and Riaz Malik. The proposed model failed and no industrial investment happened. We need to make our own models but that takes integrity and hard work - Imran Khan may take us there. Its a hope.

Very good but difficult interview with Shabbar Zaidi, he left the audience with no doubt where his butter lie. He seem to be a product of colonial past and more so, after Second World War this type thinking developed All Roads Lead To Washington, one wonders maybe that is the Cause and Pakistan is facing the effects. He is failing to come to grips that a new player has entered the world stage and erecting his tents on the ground, you can't wish her away but need to engage, for the worlds future. Dr you asked him twice "what does America want from Pakistan" I think this was the crunch question, and he avoided this, you should have pushed him. Imran Khan is a strong leader, he commands respect wherever he goes, honest and freethinking mind.i believe Pakistan can still come out of this crisis.

I absolutely commend you, Dr. Sb. for facilitating this interview. An absolute mirror to the mess the country is in. I have been saying this for such a long time that Imran has to put forth his economic policy for the country, and how he is going to govern it differently from his first term. If he keeps persisting on the road he presently is on, then there is nothing but heartburn. He may be able to live through it, but the country of Pakistan won't!!

Imran Khans great record in so many areas in spite of over 2 years of covid is an open book. Get real. His economic policies have been admirable for a new govt in such a short time. @Hussain Hashambhoy Sir, I respectfully disagree...what you are saying is that factories were started, imports were increased, exports were decreased, the foreign reserves were multiplied, prices were below what was handed to him (at no point am I defending the previous PMLN regime...there were equally inept and responsible for the mess the country is in)!! The answer is an emphatic NO!! You can hide behind 'what-about-ism', and bury your head in the sand, but I say this with all genuineness... Imran may win all the 342 seats in the next general election, but if his economic and foreign policies are not sorted now, the country is going to find itself in a deeper mess... something it may politically never be able to come out of!!

@ShyamKumar-zb2mw

Rest assured - the interim government will not be able to uplift the economy. The only thing that they will do is to take really difficult decisions - like implementing IMF conditions - which no political parties have the courage to do. Nor does any party has the willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of their country. Sad!!! Like Hasan Nisar once said - this country needs really, really serious heads-down work for the next 20 years just so that they can survive. The alternative, imho, will be an economic destruction like that of Venuzuela or Syria or Lebenon. Sad!!!

ASAK. I swear to you, after listening to Shabbar Zaidi, I was reminded of the late Moeen Akhtar and the earst while Anwar Maqsood. On a more serious note, I agree we have lasted a long time selling our Geo Location to the US. At this watershed moment, we will have to look internally at stabilizing our economy. Better crop management, water resourcing and management and industrial growth remain the answer. I would really appreciate a more clearer and diverse perspective from other economists on our situation vis a vis China and the BRI and its reality. I would request you to bring a more diverse group of economists and financial experts for a prolonged panel discussion on the challanges facing Pakistan and its increasing reliance on the Chinese and the advantages/disadvantages of it. Currently, while not denouncing Shabbar Zaidi in any way, I would like to hear both sides of the coin from multiple sources before making our mind up.

Wow, here is a man speaking with some brutal truths with integrity & conviction. He sees economic issues in glorious technicolour. Pakistan has been living on borrowed time & $ for 70 years. Unfortunately, it has become state policy to beg & borrow without ever devising a self-reliance policy. Each new govt. only comes along to outdo the previous one in gaining more loans & selling more assets. They, then, feel proud & run headlines in media claiming international standard successes. I believe, this is one of the major reasons, why Imran Khan is the right man for the time. Three key issues: 1. Put the army back in the barracks. 2. A just, transparent & accountable legal system. 3. An economic policy that lays the foundations of self-reliance. (Living within our means & untapping the youth dividend before it becomes too late).

@@sarachaudhury8675 I thought this section is for comments not for essays 🙂 'Mr. Shabbar Zaidi of the situation in Turkey in the not too distant past. You conveniently forgot to mentioned, what Erdogan did to avoid IMF loan. He went to bed with Israel and opened diplomatic ties, after calling it terrorist state and cutting ties with them. Are you ready for similar concessions? He begged for forgiveness from Saudi's MBS for Kasogi incident, at that time he was thinking he will rule Muslim world, but now surrendered to UAE and MBS for loans and investment in Turkiye. Are you ready to beg forgiveness from neighboring countries and enemies to skip IMF loans? ' if the USA was a company it would have to file for bankruptcy it has a 35 trillion dollar debt' America has more than 150 Trillion in assets, that is why they will get loans. Lenders are not fools to give free money to US. Look at China why are they buying US bonds, if US is bankrupt. learn the complete picture, don't read the headlines. What is that Pakistan has, it already mortgaged Airports and other assets to china or some other country? Pakistan has only one option that is IMF, no one else will help. If China is such a good friend, why is that they are not helping in these dire situation?

One of the figures that I came across - is that the total value of oil, gas, gold and other such natural wealth that US has in its command because of their lands exceeds $350 trillion. @@edgecase1047 In order to rebut your arguments sadly would require more then an essay on each of your points, otherwise they are simply sensational headlines. I will try to be as brief as possible. The history of Turkeys relationship with Isreal goes back to March 1949, when Turkey was the first Muslim majority country to recognize the State of Israel, as if you recall Turkey was on the losing side of the 2nd world war and this was one of the terms laid down by the allies in a similar way terms were laid down to Germany and Japan. I don’t want to go into a list the times Erdogan has been critical of Isreal over his tenure in power, if I recall he made a visit in 2005 and Isreal reciprocated in 2007 and his relationship has been hot and cold throughout and blame the relationship on Erdogan is ignoring the long history of this relationship. As for begging for forgiveness from MBS, I disagree, they are a big client and he was diplomatic for the interests of his country and in my opinion there is nothing wrong in this, even the USA and Biden are sucking to MBS because of their financial clout, this is politics but they are not selling there country in doing so. Your simplification of the debt of America is trivialising the situation and would require a book to do justice to my argument, because the USA is such a huge economy their economic mistake have a knock on effect on the whole world and sadly very shortly we will all see the effects, it’s creating a false economy by simple printing more dollars which will have devastating effects on everyone due to inflation. A currency should be backed by an asset and it’s a fact that the US dollar is not backed by assets. Your house is an asset, but unless you have earnings to cover its mortgage you will lose it. Far more knowledgeable people then you and I are telling us the policy of continual borrowing and simply printing more dollars is unsustainable and it needs to tighten its belt, which it has never done in its history. To summarise, it’s consumption of 25% of the worlds resources by being only 4-5% of the worlds population is unsustainable and comes at the expense of the rest of the world and hence its need to go and destroy countries like Iraq and Libya to steal their assets based on lies! Has anyone ever wondered who powers like USA go to borrow money from, shadowy characters who run our world,. Sadly except for Iran, China and North Korea no other country has a central bank which is owned by the country itself, the last 2 were Libya and Iraq and their destruction is a matter of historical fact, this is a very deep subject. The main reason for invasion of Libya and Iraq by the allies was their dissatisfaction in the false economy of making all payments for their oil in US dollars and if they had succeeded this would destroy the status quo of their world order and hence their destruction was inevitable. China buys US bonds as inoder to sustain their huge manufacturing based economy they need the huge American consumer economy as the net result of buying their bonds is far more beneficial to China in the same way that supermarkets have some items which they may lose on but are necessary inoder to bring in the customers, this is a very oversimplified analogy. You underestimate Pakistans geopolitical importance, do you think if it was not important the USA or west would be bothered and we have an extremely professional and large army which could destabilise any country and are a nuclear power and are Muslim, read Danial S markays book no exit from Pakistan to understand Pakistan importance to the USA to get a better understanding. There are many poor countries in the world where the USA and west don’t give a damn about. I agree with you in the immediate we have no option but to go to the IMF but we need to have a long term strategy to be independent of these institutions which dictate our foreign policies. What has 75 years of following the policies imposed on us by the USA given to the people of Pakistan apart from huge loss of Pakistani lives and a bankrupt nation. This process will require sacrifices from a generation of Pakistanis and there is no short fix, in the same way that China did. Imran khan may not be perfect but he the best we have and have ever had as he sees this big picture and is a true patriot and incorruptible and that is enough for me and the majority of the population. This summary does not do justice to my arguments.

I do agree with the factual financial information what Shabbar Zaidi is wisely explaining in simple language for common people but I strongly disagree with the idea or spoon feeding Establishment for a technocratic setup as a care taker setup to make things better for politicians. Politicians are the ones who go to public for votes. Decisions for the Future of Pakistan should be taken by these politicians. Politicians are the assets of Pakistan but what about technocrats they are the assets of foreign companies or organisations. There is no way this technocrats setup should be accepted by the politicians. Decisions could be good or bad unless and until there are no personal motives of corruption or malpractices are involved in them. People of Pakistan are not narrow minded they accept the mistakes of politicians their incompetency but their corruption and malpractices are not acceptable at any cost.

Dr. Pirzada, my suggestion is that you hold a TV seminar with three or four economic/financial vizards and have Shabar Zaidi and yourself be the moderators. PTI itself should be carrying on intensive discussions on the same subject prior to taking over the government. GHQ holding such meetings is just OK but it would lead nowhere because there is a lack of financial brains there. I am not degrading the generals, but there is a lack of Financial DNA in that group just like all others who have not studied the basis of economics.

Imran Khan faced Establishment's might, 13 political parties conglomerate dirty tricks, hostile biased foul media, International Establishment , biased & hostile Bureaucracy, above all a well planned assassination attempt But the Great man stood his ground. Shabbar Zaidi was given just one task, " Sort out FBR". This guy had a nervous breakdown & went into hiding. After a long while, he came out of his hiding & and surprisingly, with a loud mouth blasting with both barrels. He ran away when it mattered. Don't know why he is now angling to be relevant 🤔

Sadly I have a lot of issues with Mr. Shabber Zaidi comments and way of thinking, I am not even in the same league to debate with him on economics. @@qazirashid934 Thank you for your kind remarks. Sadly for the immediate we have no option but to go to the IMF but we need to have a long term strategy to be independent of these institutions like IMF which dictate our foreign policies. What has 75 years of following the policies imposed on us by the USA and these sellouts in our army and ruling elite referred to as the establishment (Parasites) given to the people of Pakistan apart from huge loss of Pakistani lives and a bankrupt nation. This process will require sacrifices from a generation of Pakistanis and there is no short fix, in the same way that China did. Imran khan may not be perfect but he is the best we have and have ever had as he sees this big picture and is a true patriot and incorruptible and that is enough for me and the majority of the population. This summary does not do justice to my arguments. I have a problem with SZ he is unnecessarily patronising and arrogant, I can tolerate this from a genius but not from a run of the mill economist like SZ, he is nothing special who with the blessings of Allah SWA was put in a position of importance not due to his talent which is very common in Pakistan “Ando may kana badsha” and he an establishment man which is the parasite we need to to be as far away from as possible!

Very informative interview... Request to ask questions from Shabar Zaidi regarding non-exploration of minerals in balochistan... balochistan land is more than 40% of pak & full of minerals resources... might possess more fuel resources (which are still unexplored) & can asst to lower our fuel import bill... top class marble is being exported to china in raw form which isn't giving much benefit to pak... why factories / refineries can't be established in pak in order to refine at least those minerals which are currently being explored & sent aboard in raw form... many more mineral discovered in balochistan but no exploration is being carried out mainly due to security issues or non availability of skilled manpower along with machinery / refinery etc... i wrote this in order to provide idea for generating discussions for increasing our capability of increasing export bill other than those already being carried out...

This part of your interview confirms that Mr. Zaidi is speaking for his own agenda. It would have been better to have Mr. Zaidi with other economic advisers or with Asad Umar and Shaukat Tareen for transparency. Mr. Zaidi seems to contradict himself at several stages particularly when he mentioned Pakistan has no leverage. The political party with the popular support can take tough decisions but the military establishment always keeps these parties on life support and make decisions that have left Pakistan far behind. Mr. Zaidi raised some important issues regarding the dealings with China versus US that need to be probed. There should be white paper by the leading economists in Pakistan on the best course of action.

I can clearly notice that Shabbar Zaidi has an pro American pro west Approach. He is toeing the exact line of Gen. Ret. Bajwa. Someone have to explain him that doing business or trade with america or china is a separate subject while as running a foreign office and to secure your strategic interests in your region is a whole separate subject and you obviously have not an PHD in foreign affairs. America and China are equally important for Pakistan but we can't ignore chinese by making laught at the quality of their equipment as america is not even interested for giving you service supports for F16s you have and without service support you even can't fly them . You are not purchasing chinese equipment because they are the best but you haven't other options Shabbar zaidi is showing 1 side of the picture China is your necessity, you have only one country (china) in this region you have good foreign relations with. Otherwise all your neighbours are your enemies from India to Iran to Afghanistan you are surrounded by wounded bears you don't know when they will jump upon you. Pakistan have very few friendly countries in this world and others even don't want to talk with you so don't be a spoiler plz

I want to give some background of mine. I am an economist and have a Masters in Taxation Idon’t want to be personal with Mr Zaidi like many other people are saying, but many gross miss representations. 1. Again, a technocrat can never understand the reality of politics and people suffering. His one sums argument Pti should have gone to IMF right away. Again, IMF is a debtor whose gross policy is to implement a better economic system through which debt can be collected. If Pti and Asad Umar had gone to IMF the first day and accepted there terms as they were the establishment and army had thrown the government out in the first 6 months. IMF was dictating a free flowing currency around 200, an interest rate around 16 %, a higher corporate tax rate among many other thing. If these were implemented at word go the inflation rate would have been around 25 during PTI first 6 months of government rather than 10 % it was.IMF policy never include the loan term grown and sustainability of the economy. Mr Zaidi can mention even 1 country that has grown under IMF policy. The reason is it’s not possible because it’s a debtor not wholesome economic policy. 2- He said Imran Khan doesn’t know about economic situation. He knows and he knew back in 2018 also. Mr Zaidi should know there are market sentiments and everything cannot be said publicly. Again coming back to 2018. Yes thing were tough and economy was bad, but by 2021 economy grew by 6% and most importantly exports grew from 22B to 37B. People like Mr Zaidi who advising army establishment led to this misadventure. 3- His sentiments about China. In many areas are right as I said yesterday there is a huge trade imbalance. 15B to 1B and it’s even more as he said due to large under invoicing. Pakistan is bleeding Mahoney due to this. 4- Imran khan conditions are difficult, economy is collapsing. What is the alternative? Just give up? A technocratic system can never deliver because the don’t have public backing or there pulse. Mr Zaidi is saying about taking tough decisions. Let’s say he becomes prime minister and the fist difficult decision he has to is free flowing the exchange rate because actual market rate is 260. It is the right move, but with this inflation rate will go up to 40%. Is he ready for that? The same army establishment backing him will pull his legs. Again Dr pirzada I am a little disappointed in you. No didn’t present any counter arguments. You were unprepared.

IMF asks to stick to basic economic principles to manage finances. If you think it is not fair, kick IMF and go to China, UAE, Saudi, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia

If you read the IMF report and reforms as part of the agreement, they are exactly what Pakistan needs and there is zero western conspiracy involved. it is useless media eggheads and political parties that play around with it and make it political.

Sadly I have a lot of issues with Mr. Shabber Zaidi comments and way of thinking, I am not even in the same league to debate with him on economics.
