This mayfly emerger imitates the Pale Morning Dun and Pale Evening Dun found in many western waters. It’s a highly effective fly fished in the surface film to selectively rising trout. It can also be fished sub-surface to imitate either the nymph emerging into the dun or a crippled emerger that cannot make it to the surface. Either way, it’s imitating the most vulnerable life stage of the mayfly. I find it to be a great spring creek and tailwater patter in this regard as it sits low in the surface film with front half on top of the surface and the back half of the fly under the surface. The EP Trigger Point Fibers wing is already pre-treated to be water resistant and float well and a little more floatant can also be applied if desired. Or, leave it un-treated so as to be able to fish the fly wet as well. Even just dead drifting on the surface the soft-hackle collar will have some movement from the water currents appearing as moving legs. This impression can trigger strikes from even the most selective trout.
