If you want to see Danny Carey's drumming, watch the live "drum cam" video version! How he does that without eight arms is amazing.

I’ve heard someone refer to the calm straight forward parts of Tool songs as cleansing the sonic palette. There’s so much going on for so long then they ground you and let you settle in before going off again.

If you have a great sound system, headphones not necessary. However, headphones let you experience the sonics as a more personal immersive experience. It's your personal preference. I do both depending on mood and how lit I am 😂 Great reaction bro!

For me personally, I need the 3D sounds of their productions to really feel and immerse myself. Very often, it sounds/feels like you are sitting behind Danny's kit, on his throne, and you are him playing. Adam'a tones often have textures I can only feel when I have good headphones on. Justin's bass has both the raw sounding of the picking of the string combined with nearly subsonic lower tones that punch you in the chest and hold it. Maynard is in my head and heart with headphones on... Without, I just admire him from afar.

Sooo many people missed out on TOOL bcs they WEREN'T played on the radio. Sober and maybe some highly edited songs like Stinkfist or Aenima was about it. Most were too long or needed editing. They are the biggest (and best) under the radar group ever.

Mars Volta is in my personal top 5 bands along with Tool. While the sonic palette and soundscapes are fairly different between the two, they both bring you on long interesting journeys with exquisite musicianship. If you haven't heard or reacted to it yet, check out the song Lateralus.
